Hofstra vs. This Week s Opponents vs. Loyola (2-4) Last Meeting; 2006 (W 20-13) Coach Morgan: Abby Morgan, a three-year assistant coach for the Pride, became the eighth women's lacrosse coach in school history on August 7, Morgan joined the Hofstra staff at the start of the academic year after a twoyear stint as the top assistant at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey. As an assistant coach, the Pride totaled 33 wins, which ranks as the second-best three-year win total in program history. In addition, Hofstra has made two straight appearances in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) championship game and has been ranked nationally at the conclusion of each of the past three seasons. Under Morgan's tutelage, six Pride studentathletes have earned CAA postseason honors, and three members of the program have garnered All-America accolades. Morgan's influence on Hofstra recruiting efforts is evident, as the 2007 edition of the Pride features seven players that have earned US Lacrosse High School All- America honors. Morgan will be assisted on the sidelines this season by Danielle Piercy and Jessica O Connell.

2 Streaks and Trends: Dating back to last season, Hofstra has won eight of its last nine and 11 of its last 14 games. Hofstra has won 21 of its last 30 games dating back to 2005 and 27 of its last 38 going back to the 2004 campaign. Four of the 11 losses were by one goal. Hofstra s eight-game win streak last season was the second-longest in program history. Hofstra s current seven-game home field win streak is tied for the third-longest in school history. #6 Boston University, whom the Pride defeated 11-8 on March 15 of last season, is the highest ranked opponent that the Hofstra Women s Lacrosse team has ever defeated. With four ranked victories last season, it marked the second straight season Hofstra has had at least four ranked wins. In 2005 the Pride defeated six ranked teams. Since a four-game losing skid to open 2006, Hofstra amassed an 11-3 record and outscored its opponents, The combined 25 wins in the last two seasons is tied for the second-most in back-to-back seasons in Hofstra Lacrosse history ( wins, wins). With 11 wins in 2006, Hofstra has now won at least eight games in seven straight seasons was the fifth time in school history that Hofstra has amassed 10 or more wins (since 1976). The Pride is 12-3 in its last 15 overtime contests, having won two straight extra session games and four of their last five overtimes games. Hofstra, who picked up the other first-place vote, was second in the poll with 39 points, while Towson was third with 34 points. 5 Timely Manner: Junior attack Kimberly Hillier s goal to open the Loyola (MD) game last season tied an NCAA record for quickest goal to start a game. Her tally at the 29:52 mark of the first half tied the record originally established by Heather Goehringer of Virginia in their game against James Madison on April 13, Combined Output: The 33 combined goals in the Hofstra/Loyola (MD) game on March 26 tied the school record for most goals in a game by both teams. The record was not established that long ago, though, as the 2005 Colonial Athletic Association Championship between Hofstra and Towson set the mark as the Tigers won to advance to the NCAA Championship. The Pride, fresh off an 11-7 season and a 5-2 finish in the conference, has come close in recent years but has fallen short. With a veteran team, including senior attacker Kim Hillier and senior midfielders Casey McGrath and Becky Thorn, expectations for success are likely to be higher than ever. But with a new head coach Abby Morgan outside observers may question Hofstra's ability to obtain its lofty goals. Whatever questions surround the team, Morgan, who was promoted to head coach after three years as an assistant and said she has made few adjustments, is convinced her team will have the answers. "We don't have to re-invent everything," said Morgan, who took over the coaching reigns after Shelley Klaes- Bawcombe left for James Madison. "We have a lot of firepower to be in. It's a great spot to be in." With so much experience returning, some Hofstra players believe it is almost a CAA championship or bust scenario. Hillier, who led Hofstra with 73 points last season, agrees that winning the CAA title game is the top priority. "With our returning players, it's absolutely our ultimate goal," said Hillier, who was second on the team with 48 goals last season. "I don't think anyone plays harder than us." Hofstra has every reason to think it has a shot at the NCAA title. In addition to Hillier, McGrath, who led the team with 50 goals and Thorn, who took a medical redshirt after playing in just three games last season, figure to be a

But with a non-conference schedule that includes the likes of two-time defending national champion Northwestern, Boston University and Cornell and a conference schedule with James Madison and William & Mary, Hofstra will need to have all hands on deck. "You can't build a bridge in a day," McGrath said. "We need everyone on this team and every game we can get to achieve our goals." The Pride was picked to finish second in the CAA coaches' poll and is ranked 16th in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll. "The greatest thing about the rankings is that our team doesn't pay attention to them," Morgan said. "We've been ranked every year since I've been here. Do we have a championship? No." Among other things Hofstra will have to make sure is stout is its defense, which lost standout Jamie Irving. "The difference between this year and last year is we will all have to be on the same page defensively," McGrath said. "We can't just rely on one or two players to carry the defense.
