The Last Time We Met (March 21, 2009) Senior Holly McGarvie had a five-point game, scoring three goals and picking up two assists, as No. 9 Princeton upset No. 7 Virginia, 8-7, on Saturday, March 21 at Klockner Stadium. Virginia s Whitaker Hagerman opened the game scoring 48 seconds into the game with help from Ashley McCulloch, but Princeton responded with three unanswered goals in a span of 4:55 to take a 3-1 lead. McGarvie assisted on the first two goals, helping sophomore Lizzy Drumm even the game at 25:38, before passing to senior Kristin Schwab from behind the cage to give the Tigers the lead at 23:17. McGarvie tallied her first when she ran around the back of the cage and fired the ball into the top shelf at 20:43. Hagerman scored her second of the afternoon at 13:59 to cut the Cavaliers deficit back to one goal. Blair Weymouth passed to Hagerman inside the arc and Hagerman found space to score. McGarvie tallied an unassisted goal at 10:51 during which Virginia s defender Liz Downs was called for a yellow card. Junior Jenna Washabaugh won the next draw control and Princeton easily made its way to the net without Virginia s top defender in its path, and Schwab rocketed a high shot into the back of the net at 10:21. Virginia called a timeout to regroup. The team entered the field more relaxed and patient as it won the next draw control and held position for more than four minutes, looking for the perfect shot. The Princeton defense was solid not allowing Virginia any open looks, as three shots sailed wide before Weymouth was able to sneak one by sophomore goalie Erin Tochihara at 5:08. (2/27/10) - Senior Kristin Morrison scored at 2:26 in overtime to give the No. 9 Princeton women s lacrosse team a 10-9 win over Johns Hopkins in the 2010 season opener at Homewood Field on Saturday, Feb. 27. Morrison scored four goals and added an assist to lead the Tigers offensively. She also led the team in caused turnovers with three and draw controls with four. Freshman Charlotte Davis had a team-best three assists and one goal and junior Lizzy Drumm had three tallies. Junior goalkeeper Erin Tochihara had 12 saves including four on free position attempts. Princeton jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the game, with Morrison notching both. Sophomore Cassie Pyle had a shot saved by Hopkins goalkeeper Cosette Larash but the ball skirted out to the right of the cage where it was picked up by Morrison and sent over the right shoulder of Larash. Morrison s second goal was a behind the back goal after getting a great feed from Davis. Brooke Foussadier cut the lead to just one at 21:47 when she scored the Blue Jays first goal when she found herself wide open out in front. Drumm added a free position goal at 19:04 just minutes before a Hopkins goal was called off because of an offensive foul. Rachel Ballatori added a goal for Hopkins at 6:26 before Davis scored her first collegiate goal when she weaved her way to the goal at 4:34 to give the Tigers a 4-2 lead. Hopkins would close out the half scoring two goals to knot the game at 4-4 at the end of one. The Blue Jays continued their offensive tear in the second half, scoring three more goals in the first six minutes to take a 7-4 lead over Princeton. Freshman Jaci Gassaway ended the Blue Jays streak with her first career goal putting away a Davis pass at 17:48. Thirty seconds later, the Tigers added another tally, a free position goal by Pyle to get within one. After Candace Rossi made it 8-6 Hopkins a Princeton goal by Drumm was whistled off as her stick hit the head of a defender on her follow through. Morrison added her third goal of the game when she got a down field pass from Davis. Drumm evened the game at 8-8 when sophomore Barb Previ caused a turnover, had a quick clear, and a loose ball picked up by Morrison and sent to Drumm for the goal. The Blue Jays quickly answered winning the next draw control and going down and scoring to regain the lead. A failed clear between Larash and Milly Brugger behind the net resulted in Princeton getting possession and Jenna Washabaugh connecting with Drumm to even the game once again at 9-9 with 3:15 to play. After the first three minutes of the overtime, Princeton won the draw on the next three minutes and Morrison drove inside for the goal to give the Tigers the lead 10-9 with 2:26 to play. Hopkins won the next draw but after a shot wide, Princeton would hang on to the ball for the next two minutes playing keep away from the Blue Jays who were trying to force the turnover. Finally with 19 seconds left, the Blue Jays got the turnover they were looking for but it was too little to late as they made it over the restraining line with just eight seconds left and couldn t get the a shot off. Rossi finished the game with three goals, while Sam Schrum, Monica Fischer and Ballatori had two points apiece. Larash completed the game with 11 saves. Princeton had a advantage in shots, had 21 ground balls to Hopkins 15 and had a 10-9 edge in caused turnovers. PRINCETON, N.J. (3/3/10) - A goal by Marlena Welsh was the deciding goal as the Rutgers women s lacrosse team upset No. 9 Princeton on Wednesday, March 3 at Princeton Stadium. The Scarlet Knight scored five goals in the final 14 minutes to come back from a three-goal deficit to earn the win. Brittany Davis added another for Rutgers with 23 seconds to play for the 6-3 halftime score. The Tigers came out in the second half and scored two quick goals by Rehfuss and junior Lizzy Drumm before Kristen Anderson responded for Rutgers to make it 7-5 at 24:22. Princeton answered back with a 5-0 goal that would give them the 10-7 lead. The Scarlet Knights won the ground ball battle Princeton drops to 1-1 on the season, while Rutgers improves to 3-0 overall having beaten two ranked teams. PRINCETON, N.J. (3/6/10) - The seventh goal of the season by Princeton s Lizzy Drumm got the seventh-ranked Princeton women s lacrosse team to within two goals of the sixth-ranked Duke Blue Devils Saturday afternoon on Powers Field at Princeton Stadium. Unfortunately, it would be the closest Princeton would get, as Duke scored seven unanswered goals to complete a 13-6 win over the host Tigers. The loss is the second-straight for the young Tigers, who fell to 1-2 on the season. Duke, coming off its first loss of the season to No. 2 Maryland, improved to 5-1 overall. Duke held edges in shots (30-15), ground balls (25-18) and draw controls (12-9), but the feisty Tigers stayed close in a high-scoring first half. The Blue Devils jumped out first with a pair of goals in the span of 1:26, but Princeton s Kristin Morrison got the Tigers right back with her sixth and seventh goals of the season. Drumm s assist on Morrison s second goal, which came with 20:31 remaining in the first half, got Princeton back even. Duke never let Princeton take the lead during the sunny Saturday afternoon contest. A goal by Morgan Miller, followed by the 17th goal of the season by Sarah Bullard, gave the Blue Devils another two-goal lead. Drumm provided another assist, this time to Charlotte Davis, to get Princeton back within one, but the Blue Devils once again battled back with two more goals. With 13:28 remaining in the first half, Drumm scored her seventh goal of the season to get Princeton back within two goals. That would be the point when Duke turned it on; the 11th goal of the season by Christie Kaester started the 7-0 run that put the game out of reach. Princeton scored the final two goals of the game, including the first of the season by Jackie Klauberg. Princeton will start its Ivy League season next weekend at Brown.

Today s win also extends Princeton s win streak over Brown to 20, a run that dates back to The No. 13 ranked-tigers quickly found themselves in a two-goal hole after Molly McCarthy and Katelyn Caro scored in the first four minutes. Senior Kristin Morrison scored on Princeton s first free position attempt at 22:33. The Tigers would continue to test goalkeeper Isabel Harvey, who would make three saves before Drumm would score her first goal of the afternoon to even the score at 2-2 at 18:50. Princeton took the lead on junior Maisie Devine s first goal of the year at 10:44. The Tigers were awarded a free position but passed the ball off and Devine found an opening for the goal. Brown s Paris Waterman answered back with an unassisted tally at 7:05 and but it would be the last time the Bears would score for the next 19:02 as the Tigers would go on a five-goal run in the final three minutes to take an 8-3 lead at the end of the half. Devine added her second of the afternoon at 2:42 immediately following a successful clear after sophomore Barb Previ picked up a ground ball following a Brown turnover. Brown called a timeout after the goal, but Previ won the draw control and seconds later freshman Charlotte Davis found the back of the net to make it 5-3 Princeton. Another Previ draw control led to Princeton s six goal as sophomore Cassie Pyle scored on a free-position attempt at 1:39. Previ added her own goal with 21 seconds remaining after Morrison won the draw. Brown would control the next draw but Pyle caused a turnover and picked up the ground ball and fed Morrison who found Drumm open for the goal with two seconds left on the clock. Junior Erin Tochihara who played the entire first half in goal for Princeton was retired and senior Katilyn Perrelle took over between the pipes at the start of the second half. (3/17/10) - Kim Griffin scored the golden goal to give the James Madison women s lacrosse team a double overtime win over Princeton on Wednesday, March 17 at Princeton Stadium. The No. 13-ranked Tigers had a 6-4 lead at the end of the first half but the Dukes stormed back to score seven goals in the second to Princeton s five to force the overtime. In the first overtime, JMU looked like it walk away with the win when Mary Kate Lomady scored an eight-meter goal at 3:30. The Dukes tried to play keep away for the next 2:30 but sent the ball back to its keeper Morgan Kelly who inadvertently turned the ball over when an errant pass went out of bounds. Getting the ball near midfield, the Tigers raced down the field and freshman Caroline Rehfuss found junior Lizzy Drumm open to score and tie the game with five seconds to play in the first overtime. During the sudden-victory overtime, Princeton had a freeposition attempt but didn t have a clear shot at the net with two defenders waiting to pounce. A pass on the attempt was swatted away and JMU came up with the ground ball and had a good clear down the field leading Griffin to score the goal exactly two minutes into the overtime. The teams each finished the game with 29 shots and 19 ground balls apiece. JMU had a slim edge in draw controls. Princeton took the lead on the opening goal and had a 3-1 lead less than 10 minutes in, before JMU scored two within 1:16 to make it a 3-3 game. The Tigers answered back going on a 4-1 run to close out the first half with the 6-4 lead. Princeton made it 8-5 at 26:17 of the second half but the Dukes scored four straight to take the 9-8 lead with 13:45 left to play.
