Boston University (9-6, 5-3 PL) at Navy (13-3, 7-1 PL) OPENING DRAW The Boston University women s lacrosse team will close out the regular season as it heads to No. 11 Navy on Saturday, April 28. Opening draw from Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium is set for 1 p.m. PATRIOT LEAGUE PICTURE With a win over Navy, BU would clinch the No. 4 seed in the Patriot League Tournament and host a quarterfinal matchup. If Colgate beats Lafayette and BU falls to Navy, the Raiders would claim the No. 4 seed and host the Terriers in the quarterfinals. LAST TIME OUT BU clinched a spot in the Patriot League Tournament by holding off Army West Point, 9-8, on Saturday. Christine Laible posted a 10-save effort in net. Ava Barry, Caroline English and Ryann Gaffney each tallied two goals apiece. Tonianne Magnelli and Mackenzie Howe led the Terriers with three draw controls each. STUFFING THE STAT SHEET Kailey Conry leads the Patriot League and ranks fifth nationally with 2.73 assists per game. PILING UP POINTS Kailey Conry leads the team with a 30-game point streak dating back to last season. Conry has 133 points over the past 30 games, with 95 of those coming on assists. Conry is the only Terrier who has registered a point in all 54 games this season. THE LAST LINE Maria Guerra leads the team in ground balls (38) and caused turnovers (26). Guerra ranks fifth in the league with 2.71 ground balls per game. Sarah Andersen has also impressed in her return to the field after missing the 2017 campaign due to injury. Andersen ranks third in the team rankings in caused turnovers (15) and is ranks sixth (21) in ground balls. Tonianne Magnelli ranks second on the team in caused turnovers (24) and ground balls (21). Christine Laible has started the last 12 games in net and has posted double-digit saves in six of the last eight contests. Belval has won 39 draws over the last six games. SCOUTING NAVY Kelly Larkin leads the league in points per game (5.50), while Jenna Collins leads the league in goals per game (4.13). Nationally, Larkins ranks sixth in points per game and Collins ranks ninth (5.31). Collins also ranks sixth nationally in goals per game and leads the Mids in ground balls (40) and draw controls (79). Larkin earned her second Patriot League Attacker of the Week nod on Monday, while Collins was named the Midfielder of the Week for the third time this season. Julia Collins is also posting an outstanding season on the attack with 44 goals and 66 points. Blake Smith has guided the defense with 22 caused turnovers and 27 ground balls. Marie Valenti leads the team in caused turnovers (26) and ranks second in ground balls (39). In net, Ingrid Boyum has posted a.387 save percentage to go with a goals against average over 15 starts. THE SERIES Navy has taken the last four matchups to hold the 4-2 edge in the all-time series. Both of BU s wins came in one-goal decisions, while the Mids earned a onegoal victory last season at Nickerson Field, CONRY EARNS PRESEASON HONORS Kailey Conry was named to the Patriot HEAD TO HEAD League Preseason All-League Team. A Second Team All-Patriot League selection last year, Conry ranked No. 2 in the NCAA with 3.0 assists per game and broke the BU single-season record with 54 assists. Conry was additionally named to the IWLCA All-Northeast Region Second Team and Inside Lacrosse All-Rookie Team. CONRY MAKES HISTORY AGAINST HARVARD Behind a record-breaking 13-point performance by Kailey Conry, BU throttled Harvard, 20-16, Wednesday night at Nickerson Field. Conry finished the night with a careerhigh five goals and matched a career-high with eight assists. Danielle Etrasco 13 held the previous mark with 12 points, coming on eight goals and four assists, against Ohio State on March 16, Her 13 points are the most by any player a single game in the NCAA this season. TEWAARATON WATCH Kailey Conry was added to the Tewaaraton Watch List on March 22. Conry is the first sophomore in program history to be named to the Tewaaraton Watch List and is the first player to be named to the list since Danielle Estrasco 13 earned the recognition in BREAKING OUT Avery Donahoe posted a breakout season on the attack in 2017, ranking third on the squad with 33 goals. The Terriers earned 120 points, just four behind third-place Lehigh. Navy (162 points) received all 18 possible first-place votes, with Loyola (146) earning the other two top nods. BU has finished in the top four of the regular-season standings and advanced to the Patriot League championship semifinals in each of its first four seasons in the conference. NOW IN NET The Terriers will look Christine Laible and Bianca Smith to replace Caroline Meegan in net. Laible has seen action in 12 games over the past three seasons, owning a goals against average and a.419 save percentage. Smith saw action in two games during her rookie campaign, posting a goals against average and.500 save percentage. Meegan set the program single-season record with 218 saves and was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year. Additionally, she finished second alltime with 603 saves and was the starting netminder all four of her seasons in Boston. ANCHOR DOWN Maria Guerra is in her fourth season as a starter and has been a stalwart on the back line. Guerra tied for the team lead with 20 caused turnovers last year and ranked fifth with 18 ground balls. Sarah Andersen returned to the lineup after missing the majority of last season due to injury. BU replaced four starters on defense, including two co-captains in All-Patriot League Second Team member Janelle Macone and Charlotte Castronovo, the Aldo Buff Donelli Leadership Award recipient. FIRST IMPRESSIONS BU will look for its 10 freshmen, the most rookies on its roster since the 2013 season, to make an immediate impact this season. THE ROAD AHEAD BU faced three ranked opponents over its first four games, as it opened up the with No. 6 BC and followed back-to-back games against No. 16 Duke and No. 23 Johns Hopkins. BU will face its fifth and final ranked opponent of the regular season on April 28 at No. 11 Navy. OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAINS The Terriers will be led by two senior captains in 2018 in Avery Donahoe and Maria Guerra. Donahoe posted a breakout season in 2017, setting career highs with 33 goals and nine assists, which both ranked third on the team. Donahoe started all 18 games at the attack, leading Terriers with three gamewinning goals and posted 12 multi-goal efforts. An anchor of the defense, Guerra has started every game the past two seasons. Guerra tied for the team lead with 20 caused turnovers a season ago and also notched 10 ground balls and won six draw controls. A leader in the classroom as well, Guerra has twice been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. TERRIERS ON THE WORLD STAGE Head coach Liz Robertshaw won her second gold medal as an assistant coach with Team USA at the FIL World Cup in England this past summer. Sarah Andersen racked up two goals, three assists and five draw controls and helped guide Israel to a sixth-place finish. Former Terrier standout Caitlin Defliese ( 10) also served as an assistant coach for Canada. BUT THIS GOES TO 12 Head coach Liz Robertshaw is in her 12th season at the helm of the women s lacrosse program. She will be in search of her fifth conference title in 2018 and in the process will look to advance to the Patriot League semifinals for a fifth consecutive season. UP NEXT The Terriers will play in a Patriot League Tournament quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday, May 1.
