3 @TerrierLacrosse 2016 boston university women s lacrosse After making its second-straight appearance in the Patriot League semifinal round, the Boston University women s lacrosse team enters its 2016 campaign, the program s 28th season, picked to finish in third place in the Patriot League for the third consecutive year. The Terriers come into the season as an aggressive and athletic outfit looking to win their first-ever Patriot League Tournament. ATTACK 7 Returning, 3 Lost, 2 New The Terriers look strong on attack, returning six of BU s seven leading scorers from the 2015 season including Boston University s most prolific pointgetter, Mallory Collins, who finished last year with 40 points (38g, 2a) and was named to the All- Patriot League Second Team. In addition to Collins, the core of the BU attack will be Taylor Hardison, Avery Donahoe and Mikenzie Lairvee, who finished last season strong and had an excellent fall season. Hardison led the group last year with seven goals and nine assists while Larivee totaled all her points in goals, totaling 11 in just 11 games last season. Donahoe finished her freshman season with four goals and assists. Louisa Del Rio, Liz Jayne and Catherine McAuley will also see minutes this season, providing the attack with a very strong bench that can be effective when called upon. MIDFIELD 5 Returning, 0 Lost, 2 New The midfield was crucial in scoring last season, with three of the Terriers top-five coming from the midfield, all of whom come back this year. Ally Adams led the middies with 36 points (26g, 10a) while All- Patriot League First-Team selection Jill Horka finished with a solid 19 goals and three assists but shined as BU s draw control specialist, setting a Boston University season record with 68 draw controls last season. The aggressive midfielder also led the team in caused turnovers with 20. Remy Nolan rounds out the core of the midfield, coming out of the defensive unit this season because of her ability to span the field and score, which she proved last year with 14 goals and seven assists. In addition to her ability to find the back of the net, Adams brings composure to the unit as she is able to create scoring opportunities late in the game, which proved extremely useful to the Terriers last season. Though the senior corps will anchor the midfield, they are backed up by a pair of talented sophomores, Sarah Andersen and Caroline English, who s experience gained last season with quality minutes will be an asset to the midfield unit. Freshmen Kaitlin Belval and Kelly Mathews are also available for the Terriers and will get great experience behind this talented group. DEFENSE 7 Returning, 2 Lost, 1 New Although the Terrier defense lost one of its best leaders from last season in Siobhan McCarthy, BU returns every other starter to the squad this year. Senior Sofia Robins will be the backbone of this Terrier unit as an extremely vocal leader on and off the field and will be joined by fellow returning starter Charlotte Castronovo, Maria Guerra and Janelle Macone as the core of the BU defense. They are joined by Ellie McKinnon, Talley Perkins, Maddie Curley and newcomer Tonianne Magnelli, who are all ready to fill any role that is needed. GOALKEEPING 2 Returners, 0 Lost, 0 New BU brings back both of its goalkeepers from last season including starting netminder and All-Patriot League Second Team member Caroline Meegan. She started every game last season and posted a save percentage and goals against average. Christine Laible is a solid back-up option for the Terriers and got experience in three games last year, finishing with a.364 save percentage in those contests.
