3 Head Coach Ricky Fried Ricky Fried is now in his 14th season at the helm of the Hoya program after serving as a Georgetown assistant coach in 2003 and In his first 13 seasons, Fried has led the Hoyas to a overall record and a record in BIG EAST regular season games. During the 2014 season, he became the winningest coach in program history following a 13-6 win over Temple on April 19. Under Fried, Georgetown has earned seven BIG EAST regular season titles, made six trips to the BIG EAST Championship Game, winning in 2010, and has advanced to the NCAA Tournament seven times, reaching the quarterfinals twice. Fried has coached 22 All-Americans as well as the National Goalie of the Year, two BIG EAST Attackers of the Year, three Midfielders of the Year and five Defensive Players of the Year to go along with 72 All-BIG EAST first and second team selections. Additionally, he and his staff have won BIG EAST Staff of the Year on two occasions. In 2017, Georgetown went 9-9 with a mark of 7-2 in BIG EAST Conference play. The squad earned a BIG EAST Championship berth marking GU s 11th-consecutive trip to the conference postseason. The Blue & Gray had one player named all-region and five All-BIG EAST honorees including BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year Francesca Whitehurst. Prior to Georgetown, Fried was an assistant coach at Johns Hopkins University for nine seasons. While at the school, Fried served as the recruiting coordinator and helped build Hopkins in to a Division I Top 20 program after aiding in the transition from a strong D-III program. A 1988 graduate of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), Fried was an All-America midfielder for the Retrievers lacrosse team. As a senior, he served as team captain, was named the team s Most Valuable Player and earned the team s Leadership Award. He was named to UMBC s All-Time Team in Fried arrived at Hopkins following a two-year stint as an assistant coach at the Gilman School and serving a season as an assistant at his alma mater. He also played professionally with the Philadelphia Wings from and 1997 and the Baltimore Thunder from Fried is also active in the Intercollegiate Women s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and has served as the organization s vice president, on the board of directors, on its ethics and recruiting tournaments committees. Currently, he is the chair of the Regional All-American Committee and is a member of the Tewaaraton Trophy Committee. After serving as an assistant coach for the U.S. Women s Lacrosse Elite Team for three years, Fried was named the head coach of the national team in August He held the position until fall After leading Team USA to an undefeated gold medal in 2013 at the Federation of International Lacrosse World Cup in Oshawa, Ontario, his position was renewed through It marked his second World Cup gold after winning in the summer of 2009 as an assistant in Prague, Czech Republic. He won his third and final gold medal in the summer of 2017 at the World Cup in Guildford, England. Fried currently serves as the head coach of the Philadelphia Fire of the WPLL. He is already the winningest coach in program history. Milestones Two Hoyas hit milestones in the Vanderbilt victory. Taylor Gebhardt hit her 100th career goal to become the 17th Hoya to hit the mark. Haelle Chomo managed her 100th save this season to become the 25th Hoya to accomplish the feat. RPI In the first RPI of the season on April 9, the Hoyas opened the year at No. 15 in the listing. Season Ending Francesca Whitehurst suffered a knee injury in the game against Florida and will be out for the remainder of the season. Additionally, Emily Ehle suffered a collarbone injury and will also miss the remainder of the season following the Vanderbilt game. Postponed Georgetown s men s and women s doubleheader against Loyola was postponed from Wednesday, March 21 due to weather as Winter Storm Toby hit the region. The game has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 25. DIPG This season, the team will be supporting the Michael Mosier Defeat DIPG Foundation (Defeat DIPG). The foundation is committed to finding a cure for brainstem tumors known as diffuse intrinsic pontine gliomas (DIPG). Nearly every day one child in the United States is diagnosed with DIPG and another child dies from it. The foundation seeks to make a difference and Defeat DIPG both by raising awareness of DIPG and by providing funding for research into effective treatments for DIPG. Preseason Awards Junior midfielder Francesca Whitehurst was named Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American Honorable Mention on Tuesday. She was also a unanimous selection to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team for the second-consecutive season when the league announced its preseason awards last month. Whitehurst, named a 2018 team captain, was the 2017 BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and a First Team All-BIG EAST honoree as well as an IWLCA Second Team All-South Region selection. She was third on the team in points with 47 on 28 goals and a squad-best 19 assists. The midfielder also pulled in 73 draw controls to rank first on the team and was second with 17 caused turnovers. Whitehurst sits at No. 15 on the all-time list for career draw controls (92) and is fifth in the season ranking with 73 in As a freshman, she was a Second Team All-BIG EAST honoree. Preseason All-BIG EAST Junior attacker Morgan Ryan was GU s other Preseason All-BIG EAST honoree. Ryan was named First Team All-BIG EAST as a sophomore. She tied for team lead in scoring with 48 points on 34 goals and 14 assists which ranked her second on the squad in helpers. She also tallied 16 draw controls, 19 ground balls and had five caused turnovers. Ryan was named the BIG EAST Attacker of the Week on April 25 after leading the Blue & Gray with four goals in the victory over then-no. 13/13 Denver. This is her first nod to the preseason squad. WPLL Ricky Fried has been named the head coach of the Philadelphia Fire of the Women s Professional Lacrosse League (WPLL). Additionally, Georgetown Assistant Coach Danielle Etrasco was selected 31st overall in the WPLL draft by the Fire. Former Hoya Kelyn Freedman was later selected by the New York Fight. The league will compete in the summer allowing college coaches to compete outside of the NCAA season.

6 Fried Wins Gold Ricky Fried and the U.S. Women s National Team withstood its toughest test of the tournament, defeating Canada, 10-5, in the gold medal game of the FIL Women s World Cup on this past summer at Surrey Sports Park in Guildford, England. The U.S. improved to all-time in World Cup competition and clinched its eighth World Cup title, but not without getting all it could handle from Canada, which held the high-powered U.S. offense to its lowest output since an 8-7 win over Australia in the 2009 final. Fried received his third World Cup gold and his second as a head coach. He was an assistant at the World Cup in 2009, and won as a head coach in National Letters of Intent GU announced the signing of 10 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday. The future Hoyas are in the midst of their senior year of high school with one interscholastic season remaining before coming to the Hilltop in the fall of The attackers are Celia Walsh from Walpole High School, Ali Diamond from Plymouth Whitemarsh High School, Mairead Higgins from Pingry School and Annabelle Zebrowski from Oak Knoll. The midfielders have four coming to the Hilltop. Katie Crager from Episcopal High School, Jordyn Sabourin from Notre Dame Prep, Isabel Ross from Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School and Annabelle Albert from The Lawrenceville School will all work for time on one of the midfield lines. On defense, Ellie Kiernan from Georgetown Visitation and Olivia Buckman from Hillsborough High School will join the backline.
