TEAM HIGHLIGHTS HIP SUBMITTED BY NIKKI SMITH The HIP skaters are having fun with a little Simon Says. MITES SUBMITTED BY HILARY O BRIEN The Mites have been busy over the last month! We hosted our 2nd home jamboree, traveled to Marinette and Shawano, and had a blast skating at a High School Voyageur game! The Blues continue to work hard and are really looking forward to participating in a few tournaments this month. The Whites had a great time at a half ice scrimmage in Manitowoc in early January. They even had a chance to suit up a few goalies in full pads! They are looking forward to tournaments in Merrill and Green Bay. The highlight this month for the Reds was taking 2nd place at the Wisconsin Dells tournament. It doesn't get much better than a weekend of hockey and fun at The Wilderness Resort with your buddies! Along with Merrill and Green Bay, the Reds are also playing their final tournament at Fox Valley. Coach Drew is very proud of how much improvement he has seen from all skaters and can't wait for the excitement this coming month brings!

More Mites Squirt C - submitted BY LISA BARTELT The month of January had a few ups and downs for our Squirt C s. Our first weekend of games in January were against competition we faced earlier in the season. The team positively performed better in all categories during their second match up. The confidence and momentum was exactly what they needed as they headed to their first tournament in Shawano. The first tournament game against Shawano Squirt B resulted in a loss but they came back to earn a win with their second game against Eagle River earning their spot in the consolation championship game. Their final game was an exciting matchup against Sun Prairie. The game started with our team going behind 0-3 only to come back and tie the game up during the third period. The end result was a one goal loss (5-6) with De Pere pounding on Sun Prairie s door to be our most exciting game this season. The team then headed off to their first hotel stay weekend in Antigo where they played two games during Antigo Hockey Days. Saturday did not go as well as we hoped with a 1-9 loss against Antigo s squirt team. But, all the pool time at the hotel rejuvenated the team and they came back to beat the same Antigo team on Sunday with a 3-2 win! The team went on to play their playdown game against Fox Valley. Even though a state tournament spot was already secured, the team fought hard in a back and forth match up that was tied until less than a minute to go in the game when Fox Valley scored the go ahead goal to win by one. Currently, the team is working hard to prepare for a tournament in Wisconsin Dells at the end of the month and the state tournament games in Washington County the first weekend in March. GO SQUIRT C VOYAGEURS!

SQUIRT B- SUBMITTED BY ADAM BURDSALL The De Pere Squirt Bs came off a long holiday break and showed great improvement throughout the month of January.De Pere stepped back on the ice with a very competitive 2-2 tie with the Green Bay C Blacks on Jan. 7. Jackson Chandler scored two unassisted goals in the first period to stake the Voyageurs to a 2-0 lead after the opening period. The Bobcats would hold De Pere scoreless from there and managed single tallies in each of the next two periods to salvage the tie. Dominic Allen stopped nine shots for the Voyageurs. The Voyageurs then had a rough stretch of games, all in losses to Milwaukee Winter Club. On Jan. 14, the Voyageurs suffered an 8-4 home loss to Winter Club, getting outshot Chandler scored a pair of goals for the Voyagers. Brett Weckworth had a goal and an assist, Owen Zunker added the team s fourth goal while Ian Johnson chipped in with an assist for De Pere. Ben Van Enkenvoort stopped 26 shots in the loss. The following day, the Voyagers went to Winter Club and came out on the short end of a 4-0 decision. De Pere managed just one shot on goal in defeat. Allen kept the Voyageurs in the game in goal, stopping all but four shots in the loss. De Pere returned to the ice Jan at the Altoona Tournament and for the third straight game came up short against Winter Club, Weckworth and Zunker each scored in the opening period, but De Pere still trailed 4-2. The game snowballed from there as Winter Club scored twice in the second and five times in the third to pull away. Van Enkenvoort made 25 saves as the Voyageurs were outshot 36-8 in the loss. Things started to click for De Pere in a second round 4-2 loss to Beloit as the coaches commented it was one of the team s best games of the season despite the loss. Johnson gave the Voyageurs the early lead after Jorja Stueber stripped a Beloit player of the puck and send a pass to the front of the goal for the assist. The Blades scored the next two goals before De Pere s Mikaela Smith won a race to the corner, swung around the back of the net and fed a wide open Johnson in front of an empty net for his second goal of the game to tie it midway through the second. Beloit scored a backbreaker off a faceoff with just 14 seconds left in the second and added a goal midway through the third to set the final margin of victory. Van Enkenvoort stopped 17 shots in goal for the Voyageurs. The next morning, De Pere coach Chris Dewsnap deployed the same lineup and the Voyageurs fed off the momentum to beat Oshkosh 7-2 and place fifth in the tournament. De Pere dominated the early chances and finally broke through when Josh Porod scored on a break down the right side with 2 minutes left in the opening period. Despite controlling the play, the Voyageurs saw Oshkosh score late in the first and 35 seconds into the second to take a 2-1 lead. De Pere was undeterred, continuing to apply consistent pressure and broke through with three goals in just over 5 minutes to take control. Porod scored off a scramble in front before Connor Hutjens put De Pere in front 3-2, banging one home from the left post. Porod completed his hat trick with a power play goal midway through the second and it was 4-2 after two periods. Hutchins scored again to make it 5-2 before Porod added his fourth of the game with a backhander from the right circle. Dominic Allen then picked up his first goal of the season when his shorthanded shot from the left point found its way through traffic and to the back of the net for the final tally in the Voyageur victory. Stueber and Weckworth each had two assists for De Pere. Logan Dewsnap and Chandler each added an assist in the win. Van Enkenvoort made eight saves as the Voyageurs outshot Oshkosh On Jan. 29, the Voyageurs came up on the short end of a 7-2 loss to Fond du Lac. De Pere got on the board first when Chandler found Hutjens in front for a 1-0 lead just 2:06 into the game. Fond du Lac would take control from there, scoring four times before the period was over to take a 4-1 advantage to the second. Nolan Burdsall punched home a loose puck in front off an assist from Porod for the Voyageurs to make it 4-2, but Fond du Lac scored a power play goal to close the second period and added two goals in the third for the final margin of victory. Van Enkenvoort stopped 27 shots for De Pere. De Pere put forth another strong effort in its playdown game on Feb. 4, but came out on the wrong end of a 5-2 loss to Fox Valley. After falling behind 1-0, Porod punched one home from the right post to tie the game off an assist from Johnson. Fox Valley scored the next two goals to go up 3-1, but Hutjens bounced a puck off the back of the Fox Valley keeper and in midway through the second to make it a one-goal game. Fox Valley scored early in the third and hung on thanks to several nice saves to thwart Voyageur scoring chances before adding an empty net goal for the 5-2 win. Van Enkenvoort made 18 saves for De Pere. On Feb. 5, De Pere lost 11-1 and 7-1 at Wausau. Logan Dewsnap scored the lone goal of the day off a scramble in front for De Pere while Allen made 45 saves in the two games for the Voyageurs ( overall).

SQUIRT B (CONT.) - SUBMITTED BY ADAM BURDSALL Jackson Chandler celebrates his 11 th birthday (Left). Squirt B at the Altoona Tournament (Right) SQUIRT A De Pere Squirt A s hosted the Voyageurs Face-Off Classic Tournament the weekend of January 21, The squirts are pictured getting Fired Up in the locker room before a game! Heidi Mirao, team manager, is getting ready to register participants. PEE WEE B SUBMITTED BY ANDY ARNOLD It has been a bit frustrating at times over the past month but it is nice to know the kids are taking better than the dads. Our Pee Wee B team traveled to Baraboo for a tournament in mid-january. After two tough games on Saturday they capped off the weekend with an 8-4 victory in their final game. The team had their play-down game against Fox Valley in late January. The team put up a spirited effort for almost 2 periods but unfortunately could not hold off Fox Valley in the end. As our season winds down the skaters continue to push hard in practice and games. We look forward to success in our final weeks

PEE WEE B (CONT.) PEE WEE A SUBMITTED BY WENDY FOTH The Pee Wee s also had an opportunity to host a tournament. The Breakaway Classic was a great success thanks to our awesome team manager, Heidi Mirao, coaches, parents and players. The theme for the team this weekend was Effort and Focus two things that are in their control during a game. Coach Mirao stressed to the Pee Wee s that when we are Focused and bring Effort to the game we are very difficult to beat. We started the weekend with a tough loss to Madison West 9-0. PWA took Beloit in the second game 6-3 and Shaw in the last game 4-2 to secure a third place finish. Congratulations Voyageurs!!

BANTAM - SUBMITTED BY WENDY FOTH The Bantams traveled to Sun Prairie to participate in the Cardinal Cup January 20 th -22 nd. They played really hard against some tough competition. In the first game they beat West Madison 8-2. Then they met Cedar Rapids and finished with another sound 8-1 victory to find themselves in the championship game against our hosts Sun Prairie. They battled hard but came up short in a 5-1 loss for second place. The team did some research and learned that the Sun Prairie team had a record of (Pictured after receiving the second place trophy) The following weekend they traveled to Wausau for the Badger State games where they took on Appleton (0-7 loss), Fox Valley (6-5 OT win in a shootout. Winning goal was scored by Charlie Eggers) and Green Bay (2-7 loss in consolation championship game). The highlight of the last month was beating Fox Valley again! After the shootout in the Wausau tournament it felt good to watch the boys take their playdown victory 9-2! The Bantams are state bound!! For some of the first year Bantams this is their first opportunity to compete at state. Now let s go to Rice Lake and finish this! (The team was all smiles in the locker room after playdowns!)
