3 ALEX ZOLTAN GYORI He will be remembered and fondly missed. Alex Gyori passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at the age of 55 years. Alex loved the outdoors, and was especially fond of and adept at shooting. He enjoyed shooting his shotgun at a variety of events including the epic Ducks Unlimited Sporting Clay event to annual chicken hunts. Alex was fortunate to have entered shooting competitions all over the Province of Manitoba, as well as nationally and internationally. He will be fondly remembered for his numerous successes and tremendous accomplishments in shooting competitions. He was a Provincial All Star who proudly wore his green all-star jacket at almost every shoot. He won numerous Provincial ATA Championships: 16 Yard event in 1984 and 1985; All Around in 1985 and 1986; Doubles in 2002 and Handicap in He also won the 1985 Canadian International Trap Championship in Edmonton. He represented Canada at the Pan Am Games in Argentina in 1995, where he won two gold medals for his country and was presented with the Queen's Baton. In honour of Alex, the Manitoba International Double Trap Championship Trophy will be renamed starting this year. It will be called the Alex Gyori Cup, to pay tribute to the well-respected sportsman. Alex was a valued and respected member of the Winnipeg Trap and Skeet Club. 3

4 JOHN D. MASNIUK (PAPA JOHN) He will be remembered and fondly missed. John Masniuk passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at the age of 86 years. John made many life-long friends, too numerous to mention. He was a shrewd businessman and was very proud of what he accomplished. John helped establish Lyncrest Airport in Transcona. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent numerous hours hunting, fishing and flying. He was a lifetime member of the Winnipeg Trap and Skeet Club and was the first and only Canadian to win the Spring Grand American in trapshooting in Phoenix, Arizona. 7 Manitoba Trapshooting Association Update There have been a number of inquires over the past couple of years as to funding for travel to trap shoots outside of Manitoba. The funding for all programs comes from Sport Manitoba. In order to get funding the MTA board must submit a plan for how the funding will be spent a year in advance. All spending must fit into Sport Manitoba s criteria to be approved. Our programs provide for two levels of assistance: The first is from the MTA and assists the Manitoba Provincial Champion of Singles, Handicap, and Doubles to train and attend Canadian and World Championship events. If the champion cannot attend then consideration will be given to runner-ups, class winners and possibly the 1st All Star Team. The amount available will depend on funds available and number of athletes requesting assistance. The funding is on the basis of the decision of the Board of Directors of the MTA. All athletes must complete and sign the athlete assistance form and submit it to the Secretary by September 1st of the current year. The second level of funding is from Sport Manitoba. This funding is for Provincial Champions only, who attend either the Canadian or World Championships. Sport Manitoba requires that the athletes place in the top 10% or top 10 at the national or international championships. Some latitude is given in the case of Juniors and Sub-Juniors to attend other championships. Champions are asked to report scores & placing to the treasurer of the MTA and will be sent a Sport Manitoba Form for completion. This form must be filled in and returned to the treasurer of the MTA (to be signed) then forwarded to Sport Manitoba for consideration. A shooter must be a member in good standing of the M.T.A. and be affiliated with a Club prior to a shooting event in which he/she could qualify for funding. Best of luck in the 2015 season. 7

11 Safety Etiquette The practice of tracking targets behind a shooting squad is unsafe, disconcerting to the shooters and is not permitted. All guns must have the action opened and contain no live or empty shells at any time, except while the shooter is on the firing line. A break open gun may be closed when it is in the gun rack but it shall not contain a live or empty shell. A gun other than a break open must have the action open when it is in the gun rack and it shall not contain a live or empty shell. A shooter may place a live shell in his gun only when on a post facing the traps. In singles or handicap a shooter may place only one shell at a time in his gun. In doubles a contestant may place two shells at a time in his gun. All live and empty shells must be removed from the gun before moving from one post to another. In changing from one post to another, the shooter will not walk in front of the other shooters. A shooter must not in any manner interfere with the preceding shooter by raising his/her gun to point or otherwise create an observable distraction. Shooters are not permitted to shoot while seated in or otherwise using a golf cart on the firing line. Single passenger conveyances are the appropriate means for participating should one require assistance due to permanent or temporary disability. All guns must be equipped, fitted and used so as not to eject. empty shells in a manner that substantially disturbs or interferes with other contestants. If a flag, orange pylon or stop sign appears on the trap house, immediately unload your gun and wait until it is removed, indicating ready. Do not point your gun in the direction of any person even though they know the gun is not loaded. 11

12 Each shooter must have his/her own gun while on the firing line. The practice of sharing a gun on the firing line is dangerous and will not be allowed. Protective shooting glasses and ear protection must be worn. All empty shells that hit the ground are the property of the Club. All adjustments of the trap machines will be done by authorized club personnel. The Gun Club has the right to refuse shooting privileges to any individual possessing faulty firearms and/or ammunition. The Gun Club has the right to expel any individual who, in the opinion of shoot management, disrupts the harmony of a tournament. The Gun club assumes no responsibility for injuries or damages resulting from the use of firearms or ammunition. 12

50 NEW A.T.A. CATEGORIES All Ladies, Sub-Juniors, Junior, Veterans and Senior-Vets must declare their special category at the time of classification in any registered tournament if they wish to compete as a category shooter. Without such declaration, the contestant will not be allowed to compete for the applicable category trophy. No contestant will be allowed to declare or change a special declaration after firing his/her first shot. The only exception to the rule will be to correct an ATA classification error. The following rules apply to shooters who declared a special category. At all tournaments where All American points will be awarded in any event, shooters must declare only one (1) category (i.e. Lady I, Lady II, Sub-Junior, Junior, Junior Gold, Sub Veteran, Veteran, or Senior Veteran). Note: Chair Shooters are exempt from this rule. 1. A female shooter, who has not reached her 55th Birthday, may declare Lady A female shooter, who has reached her 55th birthday, may declare Lady II. 3. A shooter who has not reached his/her 15th birthday may declare Sub-Junior. 4. A shooter who is 15 but has not reached his/her 18th birthday may declare as a Junior. 5. A shooter who is 18 but has not reached his/her 23rd birthday may declare as a Junior Gold. 6. A shooter who is 55 but nor reached his/her 65th birthday may declare as a Sub- Veteran. 7. A shooter who is 65 but not reached hi/her 70th birthday may declare as a veteran. 8. A shooter who is 70 years of age and older may declare as a Senior Veteran. This rule does not supersede paragraph Age based categories are established on the birthday of the shooter. For purposes of determining age category for HOA and HAA awards, the category declared by the participant on the first day he/she shoots shall be used. 10. Shooters who become eligible for new age based categories during the target year may elect to continue to compete in the previous category for the remainder of that target year. (For example a shooter reaching age 70 may elect to continue to shoot as a Veteran for the remainder of the current target year.) However, once a shooter has elected to move to the new category that decision is irrevocable and he/she may not again declare eligibility for the previous category. Junior shooters reaching the age of 18 may continue to declare Junior category for the remainder of the current target year. When there is no Sub-Junior trophy, Sub-Juniors will be included in the Junior Category. Senior veterans will be included in the Veteran category when there is no Senior Veteran trophy. Where there is no Junior Gold or Sub Veteran trophy, these shooters will be included in the Open Class. Where there is no Lady II trophy, these shooters will be included in the Lady I category. 50
