The Saints and Golden Knights have played at least one non-league game in six of the last seven seasons and will play four games in the regular season for the first time since Clarkson has a series edge in the last eight games and has not lost to the Saints since a 4-1 SLU win in Lake Placid in Clarkson took a pair of one-goal games, 5-4 and 4-3 from the Saints a year ago and SLU will be looking for its first win over the Knights at Appleton since a 3-2 playoff win in A SOLID ROAD TRIP: The Saints continued outstanding play against ranked-teams last weekend when they jumped to a 5-1 lead, holding off tenth ranked Miami for a 5-4 win on Friday and then got 51 saves from rookie Kyle Hayton in a 2-1 overtime loss on Saturday night. The Saints went against nationally ranked clubs in the last two weekend with both losses coming in overtime. Hayton was the ECAC Goaltender of the Week for his performance after stopping 89 of 95 in the two games. He has now won back-to-back league awards as he was Rookie of the Week following the Ferris State series. Five different players scored their first of the year in the Miami game and the Saints have now spread 22 goals over 17 different players in the first six games. THE SAINT STAFF: Greg Carvel is in his third season as Saint head coach after posting one of the best records for a first-year coach in program history in his rookie season. The Saints mark is the best for a first-year Saint coach since George Menard went in his first season, Carvel was named the second Charles W. Appleton II Head Men s Hockey Coach in the spring of A 1993 graduate of St. Lawrence and a former Saint hockey captain, he joined the staff as an assistant coach in the fall of He is the 13th head coach in program history. Carvel came to the Saints after a 15-year professional hockey coaching career that included assisting coach duties with the Ottawa Senators and Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League, helping both teams reach the Stanley Cup finals. He began his professional career as director of hockey operations for the Lowell Lock Monsters of the American Hockey League and joined Anaheim as scouting coordinator in He added video coaching duties to his title in Anaheim in 2002 and was promoted to assistant coach in He joined the Senators in The winner of the ECAC s Best Defensive Forward Award as a senior at St. Lawrence, Carvel graduated with a bachelor s degree in political science and mathematics. He was an Academic All America and a three-time winner of the Brian McFarlane Award for academic and athletic accomplishments. He is joined behind the Saint bench by Associate Head Coach Mike Hurlbut 89, a former All America defenseman who was part of two ECAC Championship teams at SLU and had a 14-year professional playing career and assistant coach Jared DeMichiel, who is in his first season with the Saints after assisting at Nazareth last season. Per Game SAINT SUPPORT STAFF: Aisha Visram, a 2007 graduate of the University of Guelph, is in her second season as athletic trainer for the Saint men s hockey team. Mike Elberty, a 1979 St. Lawrence graduate is the strength and conditioning coach and Brenden McHugh is the video coordinator for the Saints. Wally Johnson is the sports information contact and is in his 39th year of working with the Saint program. He also works with the Saint radio broadcasts during games. THE BREAKDOWN: The Saint roster includes four seniors, six juniors, eight sophomores and nine freshmen. The Saints lost four of their top five scorers from last season and workhorse goaltender Matt Weninger, who played in 132 games during his four seasons including 34 of 38 last year. Of the 18 returnees, seven played in all 38 games last year, and an eighth in 37. The Saints also return junior Tommy Thompson who sat out last season and will have two years of eligibility. THE SAINT CAPTAINS: Senior wing Gunnar Hughes will be the Saint captain this season while classmate Patrick Doherty and junior forward Brian Ward will be the assistant captains. Hughes, an assistant captain last year, follows in the footsteps of his brother George as a two-year captain for the Saints and joins Sean and Kyle Flanagan and Mike and Pete Lappin as the only brothers in SLU hockey history to both captain teams. Hughes scored five goals and had 13 assists last season and has played in 109 career games with 16 goals and 35 assists for 51 points. He has five career game winning goals for the Saints. Doherty, an excellent special teams player, has five power play goals, four shorthanded goals and five game winners among 24 career goals in 111 games. He also has 17 assists for 41 points. Ward had eight goals and nine assists for 17 points in 38 games in his first season of collegiate competition. The Golden Knights swept last year s two-game league set, winning 5-4 in Potsdam and 4-3 in Canton and are against the Saints since the season. Clarkson had a series edge in Canton with the last Saint win coming in game three of the ECAC playoffs, a 3-2 decision. In Potsdam, the Knights have a series lead with the last Saint win at Clarkson coming in , a 4-3 decision. BROTHER ACTS: The Saints have a pair of brothers on the roster for the 10th straight year as while Greg Carey graduated and Matt Carey departed for the pros after last season, step-brothers Christian Horn and Patrick Steinhauser join the squad this season. The Careys played last year, brothers George and Gunnar Hughes played together for the Saints in and , Sean and Kyle Flanagan and Pat and Matt Raley were teammates in , Derek and Jared Keller played together from to , and Mark and Paul Wallmann played for the Saints from to Other brother acts who have played together for the Saints have included the Lappins...Pete and Tim from to and Mike and Chris in and , the Harneys, Jake and Justin from , the Muir twins, Mike and Sean from , plus Eric and Martin Lacroix in the 1990s, Bill and Mike Gerrie and Dean and Dick Popiel in the 1980s. In six of the brother pairings since 1987, one has been an All America...Greg Carey was a repeat All America and a Hobey Baker Hobey Hat Trick finalist last season. Pete Lappin was a two-time All America, Mike Lappin earned All America as a senior as did Justin Harney, Sean Flanagan and George Hughes. Pete and Tim Lappin are third on the all-time scoring list for brothers who have played together with 315 points (Pete 187, Tim 128). SPECIAL TEAMS: The Saints led the nation in power play success last season and despite losing the bulk of their power play scorers to graduation or the pros, they are right back up there to start the year, currently 15th at 24.1 percent despite going just one for 15 in the last two weekends. The Saint penalty kill was a problem area last year, but has started out the year very well for the Saints and is tied for sixth nationally at 90.9 through six games with 30 kills on 33 attempts.

3 NHL CONNECTIONS: Former Saint Rich Peverley (Dallas Stars), Brandon Bollig (Chicago Blackhawks) and Mike McKenna (Columbus Bluejackets) were the only Saints playing in the NHL last season with a number of players playing in the AHL, ECHL or other professional leagues. Peverly hopes to return to action after being sidelined by an irregular heartbeat. Bollig was traded to Calgary and McKenna spent most of his season in the AHL, playing in four games for Columbus in goal. A host of former players hold significant positions in the NHL. Former goaltender Jacques Martin was the head coach of the Montreal Canadiens and and most recently an assistant at Pittsburgh. Ex-defenseman Randy Sexton, former GM at Ottawa and Florida, is now with Pittsburgh in player development.. Bill Torrey, who has a long history of management success in the NHL, was in charge of the search for Martin s replacement as GM in Florida, is the Panthers Alternate Governor and is a member of the NHL Hall of Fame. Former Pittsburgh GM Ray Shero is a former Saint captain. Murray Cawker is Director of Hockey Operations for the Florida Panthers, Paul Castron is Director of Amateur Scouting for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Eric LaCroix is Director of Hockey Operations for the Colorado Avalanche, Mike Barnett is Director of US Scouting for the New York Rangers and is a former Pheonix Coyotes GM, Mark Leach is a scout for the Detroit Red Wings, and Mark Bonneau is a vice president with the Ottawa Senators. Teddy Dent is the coach of the Chicago s top minor league club in Rockford. Former Saint player Jamie Baker, who had a 10-year NHL career, is the color commentator and SLU graduate Dan Rousanowsky is the play-by-play announcer for the San Jose Sharks. Mike Madill retired as a player last year and was named coach of the Las Vegas team in the ECHL. Mike Keenan became the first coach to win the Stanley Cup and the Kontinental Hockey League championship when he won the Gagarin Cup with the Metallurg Magnitorgosk team in Russia last season. Peverley became the first Saint to have his name engraved on the Stanley Cup as a playing member of the championship team when the Bruins won the cup in June. Bollig joined him (along with Dent) in when the Blackhawks won the cup. PLAYER PROFILES 1 Kyle Hayton Fr. Goaltender Denver, CO Sioux City (USHL): A member of two National U-18 championship teams and the NARCH Roller Hockey National Championship team, Kyle was a USHL All-Star team member in He had a 2.29 goals against average and a.932 save percentage for Sioux City. He attended Shattuck St. Mary s and played soccer and lacrosse, earning high academic honors. He is the son of Lewis and Kristen Hayton : Made his official debut in the season opener at RIT and earned his first collegiate win in the 10-2 win at Niagara. Credited with 23 saves in each game. He made the most saves since Matt Weninger had 46 in a game at Clarkson in 2012 in game one of the Ferris State series, stopping 44 of 47 in a 3-2 OT loss. He then recorded a shutout with a 33-save night in game two, his fourth collegiate start, the earliest shutout in a career since Alex Petizian shut out Wayne State 4-0 in his collegiate debut Oct. 28, He was named ECAC Rookie of the Week following the Ferris State series. He had the most saves in a game with 51 in a 2-1 overtime loss at Miami since Derek Gustafson s epic 72-save night in multiple 20-minute overtimes against BU in the 2000 NCAA quarterfinals. Defenseman Woodbine, MD Youngstown (USHL): Eric scored seven goals and had 11 assists for 18 points from the blue line in 63 games for the Youngstown Phantoms. He was plus-three for the season and had five special teams goals, three on the power play and two shorthanded. In two seasons at Youngstown he scored 11 goals and had 19 assists in 123 games. He attended Ursuline High School and played lacrosse, helping his team to a state championship. He is the son of Mike and Linda Sweetman : Made his collegiate debut in game one against Maine and assisted on Patrick Doherty s game winning goal for his first collegiate point. Scored his first collegiate goal on the power play in game two at Ferris State. He had his first career multi-point game with assists on two of the three goals at Harvard and added an assist at Dartmouth. He finished his rookies season with three goals and 12 assists for 15 points and played in all 38 games. His first career playoff goal was the game winner in overtime in game one of the Brown series and he assisted on two other game-deciding goals : Had a pair of assists at Niagara. Defenseman Montreal, QC Chilliwack (BCHL): Ben Masella joined the Saints from the Chiliwack Chiefs of the BCHL where he scored three goals and had eight assists for 11 points in 54 games. The team went and allowed less than three goals per game in The son of Beny and Janet Masella, he attended Deerfield Academy and played hockey for the team which won the Deerfield Academy Cup : Made his collegiate debut in game one against Maine and had an assist. Played in 12 games as a rookie : Had an auspicious start to his sophomore season, scoring his first two career goals at Niagara as part of a career-best three point night. Picked up his second assist of the year on the tying goal in game one of the Ferris State series. Career vs. Clarkson: no appearances / /

4 4 Mike Graham So. Defenseman Toronto, ON Kent School (US Prep): A defenseman who was MVP of the Kent team as a senior, Mike Graham was first team All New England for a team which finished as runner-up in the New England prep league. He scored five goals and had 14 assists. The son of Mike and Cathy Graham, he also played golf at Kent : Mike made his first collegiate appearance in game two of the Maine series. He scored his first collegiate goal against Union and it was the game winner as the Saints were the last team to beat the Dutchmen prior to their run to the national title. He played in 18 games as a rookie, missing several due to injury : Made his season debut in the Ferris State series. Scored his first of the year and second career goal in game one at Miami. Career vs. Clarkson: no appearances / / Gavin Bayreuther So. Defenseman Canaan, NH Fargo (USHL): A defenseman who was named to the USHL All Rookie team while playing for the Fargo Force, Gavin Bayreuther scored nine goals and had 24 assists while helping his team to the Western Conference championship. He earned All New England first team honors in both hockey and lacrosse while playing for the Holderness School in 2012 and also played soccer for Holderness. He is the son of John and Jessica Bayreuther : The ECAC Co-Rookie of the Year and a second-team All ECAC defenseman, Gavin was one of the outstanding young defensemen in the nation last year. He was third in the country in scoring by defensemen with nine goals and 27 assists, and the top-scoring rookie defenseman and fifth overall among all rookies. He had six power play goals among his nine for the season and assisted on three game winning goals : Selected as a pre-season ECAC All Star and is the only sophomore among that group...one of two sophomores selected as one of college hockey s impact defensemen for Had a good start to his sophomore year, picking up an assist at RIT and scoring two goals and assisting on a third on Saturday to hit the point per game mark for his career. Defenseman Wixom, MI Sioux Falls (USHL): Nolan scored three goals and had 22 assists in 58 games for Sioux Falls last season. He was a member of the state championship team at Detroit Catholic Central and a first-team All State selection in 2012 and a second team choice in He also played baseball. He is the son of Paul and Jill Gluchowski : Earned ECAC Rookie of the Week honors after a four-point series in his collegiate debut. He assisted on both goals at RIT and had a goal and an assist in the romp past Niagara. He sustained an injury in the third period at Niagara and is likely to be sidelined for at least a couple of weeks / / Alex Hagen Jr. Forward Bronxvville, NY Surrey (BCHL): The first second generation Saint player since Andre Dalbec, who played in the and seasons, Alex is the son of former Saint forward Kevin Hagen 82 and his wife Caroline. Kevin was a three-year regular for the Saints. Alex scored 43 points in 57 games for the Surrey Eagles in the British Columbia Hockey League prior to joining the Saints The MVP at Choate-Rosemary Hall in 2009, he had 20 goals and 23 assists for Surrey : Made his collegiate debut at Western Michigan...he scored his first collegiate point with an assist at Northeastern...he was injured in the Colgate game returned to action against Vermont. He played in 34 of 38 as a rookie : Alex was named the Saints Most Improved Player for after scoring four goals and assisting on five in 32 games as a sophomore. He scored his first collegiate goal in game two of the Northeastern series and had his first multi-point game with a goal and an assist. Recorded his first collegiate post-season point with an assist on the game winner in game two of the Brown series : Had a goal and an assist at Niagara to start his season scoring, his second multi-point game in his career. Career vs. Clarkson 3 gm / / Ryan Lough Fr. Forward Manotick, ON Green Bay (USHL): The Green Bay Gamblers team MVP in 2014, Ryan scored 19 goals and had 23 assists in 60 games last season. He had 11 special teams points inlcuding five short handed goals and six game-winners. Prior to playing for Green Bay, he was a member of the BCHL Island Division Champion Alberni Valley Bulldogs and earned that team s Bob Fenton Trophy for sportsmanship. He also played rugby and baseball and Athol Murray College of Notre Dame and earned the Chancellor Frederick W. Hill Scholarship and was a Dean s honor roll member for grades He is the son of Steve and Gigi Lough : Played in both games on opening weekend and earned his first collegiate point with an assist at Niagara. He was nine for 12 on faceoffs in game two of the Ferris State series. Scored his first collegiate goal in game one of the Miami series / /

5 11 Ross McMullen Jr. Defenseman Las Vegas, NV Camrose (AJHL) An outstanding defenseman for the Camrose Kodiaks in junior hockey, Ross scored three goals and had seven assists in 20 games. He was a high honors graduate at Advanced Technology Academy and played for the Boston Junior Bruins on an Empire JHL championship team prior to his season with Camrose. The son of Brian and Lynn McMullan, he intends to major in economics and Spanish. He is the first player in program history from Las Vegas : Made his collegiate debut in game two of the Western Michigan series and played in 14 games as a rookie : Made his first appearance of the season in game two at RIT and scored his first collegiate goal. He played in 11 games as a sophomore. Career vs. Clarkson: 4 gm / / Sean McGovern Jr. Forward Milton, ON Surrey (BCHL): A junior standout for the Surrey Eagles, Sean McGovern scored 19 goals and had 20 assists for 39 points in 59 games in his final junior season.. A graduate of Taft and the hockey team MVP in 2011, he also played lacrosse in prep school. The son of Kevin and Elaine McGovern he intends to major in economics. His father played collegiate hockey against the Saints at Concordia in Montreal : The Saint team Rookie of the Year, Sean played in all 38 games, recording eight assists in He scored his first career point in a 5-2 win at Northeastern and assisted on a pair of game-winning goals including the winner in the RIT game which was the 1000th win in program history. He also had an assist in a 2-1 win at nationally top-ranked Quinnipiac in February : Scored his first collegiate goal on a breakaway in the Cornell game. He played in 19 games as a sophomore and had a goal and an assist : Made his season debut at RIT and has played in one game each weekend thus far this season. Picked up his first point of the year with an assist at Miami Career vs. Clarkson: 4 gm / / Woody Hudson So Forward Greece, NY Chicago (USHL) Woody Hudson split his final junior season between the Indiana Ice and the Chicago Steel, finishing the year with 16 goals and 12 assists for 28 points in a combined 65 games. He had 14 goals and six assists and was captain of the Indiana Ice. The son of Woodruff and Wanda Hudson, he attended Milton Academy and was part of the 2011 New England Championship team. He also played football and lacrosse at Milton : Made his collegiate debut against Maine in game one and scored his first collegiate point with the primary assist on Brian Ward s goal. Scored his first collegiate goal in game two at Ferris State. He had his first multi-point game with two assists in game two of the Northeastern series. Scored his first ECAC goal in the first period at Yale. Scored the game winner in game two of the playoff series against Brown. Had six goals and five assists ins 37 games as a rookie : Had a goal and an assist in game two at Niagara, assisting on the game winning goal. Career vs. Clarkson 2 gm / / Alex Dahl So. Forward Eau Claire, WI Youngstown (USHL) The team captain for the Youngstown Phantoms Alex Dahl scored 11 goals and had 13 assists in 64 games in his second season in the USHL. A teammate of defenseman Eric Sweetman, they helped the team set a franchise record for wins with 37 in The son of Kirk and CIndy Dahl, he was a Kurt Hammer Award nominee and also played baseball and football in high school : The winner of the Kevin Dougherty Scholarship for the class of 2017, Alex had a strong rookie season for the Saints. Recorded his first collegiate point with an assist in the Colgate game. Scored his first collegiate goal in game one of the RIT series. He finished the year with two goals and eight assists in 33 appearances : Played in three straight to start the year. Career vs. Clarkson: 2 gm / / Matt Purmal Fr. Defenseman Merrill, WI Green Bay (USHL) Matt was an assistant captain and the best defenseman award winner for the Green Bay Gamblers. He had two goals and two assists in 54 games for Green Bay and had prior junior hockey stints for Wichita Falls in the NAHL and Fort McMurray in the AJHL. He played football and ran track at Merrill High School and is the son of David and Kelly Purmal : Played in both games on opening weekend, but was knocked out of the Niagara game with an injury. He is doubtful for this weekend / / Drew Smolcynski So. Forward Hatfield, PA Chicago (USHL) A teammate of Woody Hudson on both the Chicago Steel and Indiana Ice, Drew Smolcynski combined for 20 goals and 25 assists between the two teams in his final year in the USHL. An asssitant captain for the Ice, he scored 15 goals and had 28 points in 44 games in Indianapolis. He had seven power play goals, three shorthanders and two game winners in 65 games. Drew played soccer and golf and earned rookie of the year honors in hockey at the Gunnery. The son of Andrew and Patricia Smolcynski, he was an honor roll student throughout high school : Had a spectacular collegiate debut, scoring two goals including the game-winner in a 3-2 comeback at Ferris State. Earned ECAC Rookie of the Week honors. He scored his third of the year and had his first collegiate assist in game one of the Northeastern series. Missed time with injury, but finished a solid rookie season with five goals and six assists for 11 points in 25 games : Had a goal on the power play in the opener at RIT and a career best four-assist night at Niagara. Had an assist in each game last weekend and his seven assists are tied for most nationally. Career vs. Clarkson: no appearances / /

6 22 18 Patrick Doherty Sr Forward Hamilton, NY/New Hampshire (EJHL) Assistant Captain A member of the EJHL champion New Hampshire Monarchs in his final junior season, Patrick Doherty scored eight goals and had 22 assists for 30 points in 33 games for the Monarchs. A graduate of Hanover(NH) High School, he captained both his high school team and the Monarchs. He also played lacrosse in high school, helping his team to a state title : Patrick had a solid rookie season for the Saints, playing in 35 of 36 games and finishing his first collegiate season with six goals and five assists for 11 points. He had three power play goals and scored the game winning goals against RPI and Clarkson in the Lake Placid game. He also had an assist on the game-winner at Princeton.He earned ECAC Rookie of the Week honors Oct. 18 after scoring two goals against RIT : Pat scored nine goals, two of them shorthanded and one on the power play in his rookie campaign. He was among five players in the ECAC to score two shorthanded goals in the season. He finished the year with a career high 13 points and had five goals and three assists in league play. He had 13 blocked shots for the Saints in his sophomore year. He had a four-game scoring streak in early January and assisted on three game winning goals. He was on the roster at the University of Minnesota in , but did not play in any games. He was a member of the Minnesota state champion high school team at Benilde St. Margarets and is that school s second leading scorer and first all time in assists. 8 29 Kyle MacDonald Jr. Goaltender Hanover, MA Bay State (EJHL) The Boston Herald Goalie of the Year and a three-time Catholic Conference All Star while playing at Xaverian Brothers High School, Kyle MacDonald also played junior hockey for the Bay State Breakers in the EJHL. While he was limited to five games by injury in his final junior season, compiling a 2.59 goals against average and a.919 save percentage, he had a 2.63 goals against average, a.927 save percentage and went in 20 games in for the Breakers. He led his high school team to three Super 8 appearances, the first in school history, was was captain of the Eastern Massachusetts champion baseball team as a senior.
