O-test report (Dec. 17, 2013) The 2014 Edisto Forage Bull Test (EFBT) bega Dec. 17 i Blackville after the delivery of 57 bulls Nov. 25. Scott Sell, area livestock/ forage extesio aget ad bull test coordiator, says the bulls look great ad are doig well. The test is located at the Edisto Research & Educatio Ceter ear Blackville, S.C., ad offers a uique approach to gai-testig bulls. It is a 168-day pasture-based test. EFBT was developed, built ad started i 1982 with the commercial cow-calf producer i mid ad capitalizig o the Southeast s advatage i the cattle busiess the ability to grow high-quality, lush forages year-roud. EFBT was desiged to performace-test bulls i a eviromet i which bull buyers expect their progey to perform. So far this year the bulls are heavier, but the curve is the same. Sell says durig last year s warm-up, the bulls lost a average of 0.80 lb. per day as they adjusted to the forages, ad they did the exact same thig this year. Agus, Hereford, Red Agus, SimAgus, Simmetal, Charolais, Shorthor ad LimFlex are the breeds represeted. The test is for bulls bor Ja. 1-April 30, Bulls are fed a total mixed ratio (TMR) that is approximately 55% cor silage, 22% cor grai, 20% distillers dried grais with solubles ad 3% balacer, alog with free access to salt ad mierals. Feed itake is recorded for each lot. Hay or small-grai crop silage may be substituted for the cor silage, depedig o supply. A test idex is 60% ADG ratio + 40% WDA ratio.
