2 The 2019 Task is Put Moey i A Piggy Bak. The task chages o a aual basis ad is determied by Rube Goldberg, Ic. NEW There is o fee to RGI to become a Host...but there are resposibilities i Hostig. Oce you register as a Host, both the 2019 Host Maual ad Scorig ad Judgig - alog with other materials you will eed - are dowloadable from your Accout page. The Host will have sole resposibility for orgaizig ad ruig their competitio i accordace with RGI rules. The key to a successful competitio is commuicatio with Team Leaders ad RGI. 1. Decide which Divisio(s) you will Host. There are 3 Rube Goldberg Machie Cotest Divisios. You may Host more tha 1 Divisio. 2. There is o team size limit. Ay umber of studets ca desig, build, ad participate. For both regioals ad Fials, we suggest a team limit of 14. Hosts eed to put otes i their listig if there is a cap of 14 (or fewer) studets based o capacity, fire codes ad expected attedace. 3. Whe choosig a veue, determie how may total teams you ca fit i your veue. Allow approximately 15 x 15 for each team. There will also be judges, refs ad the public attedig, so add space for that. 4. All hosts register their cotests o our web site ad create a Host Page. (See how o page 6. ) There is o fee to become a Host. All regioal cotests must ru betwee November 1st, 2018 ad March 15th, Oce your listig is approved, you will have access to all materials o your Accout page ad teams will be able to register for your cotest. 5. Host registratio opes early fall. 6. All Divisio Fials will be held the weeked of April 5-7, 2019, at Museum of Sciece ad Idustry, Chicago, IL. 3 Team Basics NEW Team Cost ad Registratio There are costs ivolved with competig i the Rube Goldberg Machie Cotest. Both Live ad Olie local/regioal registratio fees are $ per team Fees are payable directly to RGI. Hosts may uderwrite a portio of, or all of, the $395./per team fee. Hosts may fid sposors to assist i lowerig team fess by uderwritig. Oce your cotest has completed, Hosts will be billed for the balace of the fee they are uderwritig for each team. Live Fials registratio fee is $ for all teams attedig Live Fials, payable directly to RGI. For teams i the Live cotest, i additio to registratio fees, costs may iclude trasportatio of the machie ad the team, food ad overight accommodatios. Teams are ecouraged to udertake commuity fud-raisig efforts (i.e. local retailers or busiesses, paret cotributios, bake sales...). No refuds or credits will be give. Divisio Age Requiremets Divisio Age Requiremet Team Leader APPRENTICE 8-11 Each team must have a Team Leader who will be preset at I the cotest. II NOTE: A team member must fall withi the age rage for their divisio by Jue 15 th, Movig o to Fials First place wiers of Divisio I ad II regioals are eligible to compete i Fials. Appretice teams that wi 1 of the 3 judged categories are eligible to compete i Fials. For every 27 teams i a regioal, 1 team may atted Fials. For every additioal block of up to 27 teams i a Regioal, 1 additioal team may atted Fials. After the wiers of a regioal are aouced, ad the Host has marked team places, teams advacig to Fials must go to their Team Page to register ad pay for Fials by March 1st or as soo as their cotest completes. If a advacig team from a regioal is uable to participate i a Fials, the ext highest scorig team from that Regioal may choose to participate i place of the advacig team. 2

Teams whose registratio fees have bee uderwritte but do ot participate i their regioal competitios will be prohibited from participatig i future cotests for the ext three years. Teams are defied as a specific combiatio of a teacher/ leader ad school/orgaizatio. For cotest scorig ad determiatio of 1st, 2d ad 3rd place wiers (for Divisio I ad II) ad the 3 category wiers (for Appretice), Hosts MUST have access to Microsoft Excel. At the competitio, judges ad referees will make otes o paper Forms (located i the Forms SECTION of the Rules) but actual scorig will be doe digitally via a Excel spreadsheet.
