2 ENTRY FEES Entry Fees: All classes $4.00 per class Back Numbers: Exhibitors to wear NZSPBS approved number holders on left arm. Number holders can be purchased from most saddleries. BACK NUMBERS WILL NOT BE PROVIDED. *** NOTES FOR ALL COMPETITORS *** When arriving at the grounds, please avoid doing a right hand turn into the property When leaving the grounds, please avoid doing a right hand turn on to Marshland Road Exhibitors to wear NZSPBS approved number holders on left arm. Please pick up pony manure from around floats/trucks and dispose of on manure pile Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the grounds. Please note: There will be no shared lunch or official lunch break at this show. Please bring your own lunch with you. There will be a children s lolly scramble during prize giving at the conclusion of the day. RULES FOR ALL COMPETITORS 1. ALL PONIES MUST BE REGISTERED WITH THE NZSPBS. 2. Ponies age is determined as of 1 st August. 3. Competitors age is to be their age on day of show. 4. The Show Committee reserves the right to change, split, amalgamate or delete any classes as it sees fit. 5. The Show Committee has the right to refuse entry to any competitor. 6. The decisions of the judges are final. 7. In the event of a tie for the Section Awards, a count back system will be used. 8. A pony can only compete in either Ridden or Lead Rein Ridden but not both. 9. A pony can only compete once within each section for points to be counted. 10. The NZSPBS shall retain possession of any cup or trophy won by a non-member of the NZSPBS. 11. The Show Committee reserves the right to request the withdrawal of any pony it considers dangerous to the public or other exhibitors or ponies. 12. It is the responsibility of all exhibitors to ensure that no pony is brought onto the grounds displaying symptoms of contagious or infectious diseases. 13. Any pony entered must be in a sound, fit condition to compete in these events. 14. The combination of pony and handler must be suitable to compete in these events. 15. No Colts or Stallions are allowed on the grounds 2

3 16. All riders must wear safety approved riding helmets when mounted AND all children 16 years and under must wear safety approved helmets while competing in any section at this show, whether mounted or not. This includes the Fancy Dress if mounted. 17. The wearing of back protectors by riders is advisable. 18. Dogs are prohibited from the grounds. 19. In the event of any circumstance not being covered by the above, the Show Committee s decision shall prevail. RIDDEN & LEAD REIN RIDDEN BARREL RACE Enter at the start/finish line, circle around the 1 st barrel, proceed to the 2 nd barrel, and then continue on to the 3 rd top barrel to complete the pattern and finally exit the course crossing the start/finish line a second time. This pattern is often referred to as a "clover leaf". Competitors must ensure they cross their tracks to complete the course successfully. The pattern may also begin with the left barrel first. FANCY DRESS RULES 20. A Costume of competitor s choice. Exhibitors can be un-mounted or mounted for this class. Refer to Rule 16 about safety approved riding helmets. RIDDEN & LEAD REIN RIDDEN RULES 21. No rider under 4 years of age is permitted to enter any classes at this show. 22. Adults are permitted to enter the Ridden Section Classes. 23. All ridden ponies must be 3 years and over. 24. All riders must wear safety approved riding helmets when mounted. Safety approved riding helmets must be worn by all children 16 years and under in all events, whether mounted or not. Refer to Rule 16 about safety approved riding helmets. 25. For all riding classes correct riding attire must be worn (riding jackets, shirt and tie or pony club uniforms are acceptable). Shorts and sleeveless shirts are not permitted. 26. Ridden competitors may compete in both Show Hunter height classes. The ring will be open for viewing five minutes prior to the first show hunter class only. Jumps will be either show jumping rails, hunter style jumps or a combination of both. Judged on style and accuracy. Strictly no jumping of any of the course jumps during this time or it will result in disqualification from the class. 27. Lead Rein riders must be from 4 to 8 years of age on the day of the show. 28. The Lead Rein handler must be 16 years or over and the lead attached to the pony s noseband and not the bit. 3

4 29. Barrel Race from a standing start complete the clover leaf pattern (an example is shown on page 3). Judged on time and accuracy (walk or trot only for Lead Rein Ridden, canter is allowed for Ridden Section). If a competitor knocks over a barrel, 10 seconds will be added to their final time. 30. Slalom Race will be made up of cones with tennis balls balanced on top. From a standing start bend in and out to furthest cone and bend in and out back to start/finish line. Judged on time and accuracy (walk or trot only for Lead Rein Ridden, canter is allowed for Ridden Section). If a competitor misses a turn at a cone, they must circle back and correct before continuing on. In the event a competitor knocks a cone over or tennis ball off the cone, 10 seconds will be added to their final time. 31. In-hand Egg and Spoon Race - All competitors stand at the start line evenly spread out. With one hand holding the spoon on the handle only, they must balance a golf ball and on the start signal race to the finish line while balancing the ball on the spoon. If a competitor drops their ball they must stop and replace back on spoon before proceeding. 32. In-hand Trot Race All competitors stand at the start line evenly spread out. On the start signal and leading their ponies, they race at a trot only, penalties will apply if the pony breaks to a canter. 33. In-hand Sack Race All competitors line up at the start line while standing inside their sack and holding onto their pony. On the start signal they must hop/run whilst inside their sack leading their pony to the finish line. FANCY DRESS SECTION CLASSES PLEASE REFER TO SECTION RULES INCLUDED IN THIS SCHEDULE Judging to commence: After the showing classes and before the gymkhana events 1. Fancy Dress 10 years and under. Refer to rule 16 and Fancy Dress 11 years and over. Refer to rule 16 and 20. 4

Show Hunter (maximum height 20 inches). 10. Show Hunter Pairs 11. Barrel Race. Refer to rule 29 and Barrel Race Pattern on page Slalom Race. Refer to rule 30. The following classes are un-mounted and ponies to be shown in halter and lead-rope. Points count towards Youth Versatility Awards. 13. In-hand Egg and Spoon Race. Refer to rule In-hand Trot Race. Best Rider Lead Rein Ridden Shetland Pony Rider 6 to 8 years of age. 23. Barrel Race Lead Rein Ridden Shetland Pony Rider 4 to 5 years of age. A handler over 16 years of age may assist child where necessary for safety. Points count towards the Youth Versatility Award of Champion Lead Rein Ridden. 27. In-hand Egg and Spoon Race Rider 4 to 5 years of age. Refer to rule In-hand Egg and Spoon Race Rider 6 to 8 years of age. Refer to rule In-hand Trot Race Rider 4 to 5 years of age. 7 ***** PRIZE GIVING ***** Will be held at the conclusion of all sections and will include: ** A Lolly Scramble for the children YOUTH VERSATILITY AWARDS Duncree Award A trophy and rosette donated by the Duncree Shetland Pony Stud is awarded to the child aged 10 years and under with the most points in the Ridden Section (Lead Rein excluded). A rosette donated by NZSPBS will be awarded to the runner up. Black Opal Memorial Trophy A trophy donated by Brian Brown and rosette donated by the NZSPBS is awarded to the child aged 11 to 16 Years with the most points in the Ridden Section (Lead Rein excluded). A rosette donated by NZSPBS will be awarded to the runner up. Champion Lead Rein Ridden A trophy donated by Double H Stud and rosette donated by NZSPBS is awarded to the Child and Pony combination with the most points in the Lead Rein Ridden Section. A rosette donated by NZSPBS will be awarded to the runner up.
