2 CATTLEMAN S BALL THE FACTS WHAT / WHERE / WHEN The American Cancer Society s 22nd annual Cattleman s Ball will be held in Wichita at the Old Cowtown Museum located at 1865 Museum Boulevard on July 16, First launched in Texas in the 1970 s, the Cattle Baron s Ball brings a fresh twist to the charitable gala circuit. It is a proven, successful national model that has spread across the country. This event brings together donors from all walks of life to kick up their heels in support of the American Cancer Society. Thanks to those generous donors, the Wichita Cattleman s Ball has raised nearly $2 million dollars since The Cattleman s Ball offers a unique experience to all attendees. This volunteer driven event is supported by the area s top companies and individuals. WHY According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 1.5 million new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in More than 569,000 Americans will lose their battle. That s more than 1,500 people a day. In the United States, one of every four deaths is from cancer. The American Cancer Society is committed to changing these devastating odds. Proceeds from the Cattleman s Ball support the American Cancer Society s mission to eliminate cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy and service. HISTORY & MISSION In 1913, 15 prominent physicians and business leaders founded an organization to target a disease steeped in a climate of fear, denial and rarely mentioned in public. Today the American Cancer Society is the nation s largest community-based voluntary health organization and has played a role in virtually every groundbreaking cancer advance realized. With volunteers as its backbone, the Society tackles all cancers on all fronts. The Society seeks to eliminate cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering.

Five-year cancer survival rates have nearly doubled since the research program started 60 years ago. The Society focuses on early identification of areas that hold breakthrough promise, and through the years, 44 scientists funded by the American Cancer Society in their careers have gone on to win the Nobel Prize. EDUCATION Because deaths from many cancers can be lowered or avoided altogether through the choices people make, sharing prevention and early detection knowledge is a critical part of the Society s plan to conquer cancer. Outreach programs and activities run by Society staff and volunteers delivered lifesaving information to more than 60% of newly diagnosed cancer patients in Kansas. ADVOCACY Public policy decisions affect lives, and American Cancer Society advocates and grassroots volunteers give cancer a voice and a face by promoting effective cancer policies and legislation at the federal, state and local levels. Current priorities include restoration and increase in governmental funding for cancer research; education and prevention of suffering from tobacco-related illness; and elimination of disparities among minority and medically underserved populations who bear disproportionate cancer burdens. SERVICE Under the umbrella of Patient Navigation Services, the Society answers thousands of cancer-related requests with professional and compassionate assistance for cancer patients, families and caregivers. From the moment of diagnosis throughout the cancer journey, we provide a circle of care that offers patients comprehensive information, day-to-day help and emotional support so they can make informed decisions for the highest quality of life possible. In addition to the many free programs and services, we maintain a database of available community resources to help patients ease their cancer burden.

Any and all donations will be accepted. Some items may be packaged with other items(s) but each donor will receive proper acknowledgment in the evening s program for their donations. The Cattleman s Ball Auction Committee reserves the right to choose which items appear in the Live Auction. For donation recognition in the event program, item(s) must be received with a completed commitment form no later than July 1, Due to high demand for tickets, we are unable to offer tickets to the 22nd annual Cattleman s Ball in exchange for auction items. UNDERWRITING Underwriting is cash given to cover a budgeted expense item. The name of the underwriter can be placed on the item given at the party and signage will be prominently displayed with the corporate name and /or logo recognizing their underwriting contribution. Additional marketing benefits will be given based on the level of support. SPONSORSHIP Sponsorship is cash given directly to support the programs and services of the American Cancer Society. The company or donor will receive marketing benefits based on the level of support. IN-KIND DONATIONS In-Kind donations are a contribution of goods or services, not a cash donation. In-kind contributions reduce the expenses of the Ball and make it possible for additional funds to benefit the American Cancer Society. In-kind donors will receive marketing benefits based on the level of support. PATIENT TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM (Restricted Gift) Those diagnosed with cancer face many medical, physical and emotional issues. The medical aspect is daunting and can mean hundreds of trips to doctors, specialists, hospitals, labs and treatments. Event website: The Patient Transportation Program provides a combination of community resource referral, trained Road to Recovery volunteer drivers and direct financial aid for gasoline costs. This ensures patients receive lifesaving treatments and eases the burden of cancer in a very practical and tangible way. In the past, the Society has offered a $50 gas card to cancer patients. Due to continued restricted gift donations, the gas card has recently increased to $100. However, additional restricted gifts must be received to maintain the $100 gas card. A live auction item will provide an opportunity to give to the Patient Transportation Program. Then, using a resource database and working closely with local staff, the Patient Service Center staff provides referrals to resources and even helps patients who need assistance with lengthy, sometimes confusing, application processes. The center also schedules local ACS services for patients.
