1 Welcome to the new look NAFAS National Show taking place in Blackpool between 13th and 15th November We will be celebrating the festive season by incorporating flowers and food in all its wonderful forms into our show. Watch culinary experts demonstrate in our Taste Theatre, enjoy delicious samples from the purveyors of good food and stock up with all your goodies for the festive period. In our Design Theatre you will see 6 free demonstrations a day showcasing the cream of NAFAS talent. View 19 competitive classes of floral art, the most unique in the world. Each day watch the competitors compete live for the inaugural prize of NAFAS Designer of the Year. The show promises to be a thrilling experience for exhibitors and visitors alike with so much more to see, taste and do on a daily basis. This show is open to all NAFAS members, friends and visitors; it needs your support, so book now. We hope you enjoy this schedule and wish you much luck with your competition entry. Viewed and judged all round. To be staged on both sides of a wooden painted wall with arched window aperture. Space allowed: width, depth 50cm, height 240cm, on both sides of the wall. Window aperture width, height 90cm from top of arch to shelf, 1 from shelf to floor. Shelf width,, depth 25cm, on both sides. Outside Floor space may be used on this side only. Inside Exhibit may extend over the edge of the shelf but must not touch the floor. Competitors may extend on to wall. Viewed and judged from both sides. Staged on an individual cube viewed all round but judged from the front. 61cm 61cm 61cm Class 13 CELEBRATION Space allowed: width square Height optional. Staged on a moveable plinth, width square, height 90cm. Base 1.5cm thick, width square. No floor placements. Some artificial plant material is permitted in this class but must not predominate. Viewed and judged all round. Class 14 ONCE UPON A TIME Space allowed: width 90cm, depth, height 200cm. Staging high covered in black fabric. 90cm Class 16 FRONT COVER An exhibit suitable for the front cover of a Winter issue of The Flower Arranger magazine. Space allowed: width, depth, height. Staged on tabling, width 97cm, depth, 70cm from the floor, background height 1. 1 Class 17 DECK THE TREE 97cm Junior Craft Class 8 12 years. A decorated bauble. Dried/preserved plant material. A 10cm ribbon loop to be attached at the top of the bauble for staging. Space allowed: diameter 17cm. Staged on bare winter branches. To be viewed and judged all round. To be brought in or posted ready assembled and staged by the Competitions Team. Only Open to Juniors affiliated to NAFAS 70cm 200cm Class 18 A CRACKING GOOD TIME Junior Craft Class years. 3 90cm A seasonal cracker. Dried/preserved plant material. Space allowed: Width 40cm depth 20cm, height 20cm. Staged on open tabling cm from the floor. To be viewed all round and judged from the front. To be brought in or posted ready assembled and staged by the Competitions Team. Only Open to Juniors affiliated to NAFAS 6 7

5 EMPRESS BALLROOM World Design Zone Class 19 WINTER WONDERLAND BOUQUET Open Class To be staged on an individual plinth, width 53cm, depth 53cm, height 90cm. Create and design a bridal bouquet for a bride to carry at the wedding ceremony. The bridal bouquet should reflect the traditions of bridal bouquet technique whilst embracing modern concepts of design. Definition: This refers to bouquets that are held in the hand carried at wedding ceremonies, civil partnerships, ceremonies and celebrations or given at functions or events. They are constructed with wires brought through a binding point forming a handle or made on a manufactured floral foam bridal holder. Construction can be flower and plant material on natural stems with support wiring where necessary or the bouquet can be completely wired with units of flowers and plant material, wires should be concealed for protection. Decorative collars, creative structures and framework can be used to define the outline or support the flowers and plant materials. The competitor must supply the stand/prop on which the design is displayed. The stand/prop will not be considered in the final score. The judge will need to handle the design for judging purposes. At least two thirds of the finished design must be fresh flower/foliage and or plant material. The judge will be looking for a high standard of design and technical skill. 6 Competition regulations and information General All competitive classes, (excluding Class 19) are open to members of Clubs and Societies affiliated to any of the Areas of NAFAS, including International Affiliates, Overseas Members of the London and Overseas Area of NAFAS, members of a Flower Association affiliated to a WAFA affiliated country and to individual members of NAFAS. All exhibits will be judged in accordance with the NAFAS Competitions Manual Second Edition Class 19 is open to all, including NAFAS members, florists, students and designers and will be judged in accordance with UK Floristry Judges Guild judging criteria. All exhibits must be the unaided work of the competitor and must be assembled in the venue with the exception of classes 3, 4, 17 and 18 which may be submitted ready assembled. Items requiring special time or expertise for their preparation may be brought assembled for incorporation in the exhibit, although these items must not predominate in the exhibit. This ruling will be actively monitored throughout staging and relevant information will be given to the Arbitrators and Judges. Any complaint by competitors should be handed to the Competitions Officer in writing before the end of staging at pm on Thursday 12th November. All exhibits and competitors property will be at the risk of the competitor and neither NAFAS nor the owners or the occupiers of the premises in which the Competitions, or any part of them, are held can accept any liability whatsoever for any loss or damage sustained by any competitor. All exhibits will be staged in artificial lighting. All measurements in the staging instructions are approximate. All exhibits must be staged within the space allowed. Colour samples of staging will be sent on acceptance of entry. Unless otherwise instructed, nothing may be attached to the staging in any class. Aerosol cans of any description must not be used in the competition venue. Competitors may use glue guns and other electrical equipment only when accompanied by a valid PAT certificate. Entries All entries must be submitted on official entry forms accompanied by an entry fee of and if applicable with a separate cheque of for the second entry. Entry fees are non-refundable. All entries including Class 1 must be submitted to the Competitions Officer not before 1st June and not after 14th June 2015 Competitors may not enter more than two classes. Competitors may stage only one entry per class. Alternative choices may be made as indicated on the entry form. Applications containing all entry forms and fees must include a stamped addressed A5 envelope. Competitors will be advised of the acceptance of entries within three weeks after the closing date. If a class is over-subscribed entries will be allocated by ballot. Acceptance of all entries must be returned within ten days. Any exhibit, excluding Class 19, receiving a mention is eligible to be considered for a Special Award. Junior entries No entry fees are required for classes 17 and 18. If any junior classes are oversubscribed the number of entries from any one group may be restricted. Staging All staging of exhibits will take place on Thursday 12th November 2015, from 6.30 am to pm Subject to completion by contractors, competitors will be allowed to unload only on Wednesday 11th November, from 8.00 pm to 9.30 pm. Details of unloading times may be staggered to alleviate congestion and will be explained on acceptance of entry. Competitors must wear their security badges at all times. The Competitions Team will decide the positions of all exhibits. The location of all classes will be available by the beginning of March Details of special staging, if applicable, will be sent with acceptance of entries. A maximum of two competitors are allowed for staging Class 1 and one competitor for all other classes. Except for Class 1, only officials, competitors and other authorised persons will be allowed in the Competition Areas during staging times

7 Craft classes In classes 3, 4, 17 and 18, a Competitor s entry may be posted to: Blackpool Competitions National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies Osborne House, 12 Devonshire Square, London EC2M 4TE and it must arrive between 21st October and 30th October or A competitor s entry may be handed to a member of the Competitions Team between 8.30 pm and 9.30 pm on Wednesday 11th November 2015 and on Thursday 12 November 2015 between 6.30am and 8.30am. Exhibits will be staged by the Competitions Team. Maintenance of exhibits Competitors must be responsible for the maintenance of their exhibits during the three days that the show is open to the public. Maintenance of exhibits can be done in the mornings before the show opens to the public from 8.30am to 9.30am. The Competitions Team reserve the right to move and/or replace any plant material. Judging Exhibits will be judged on Thursday 12th November between 1.30 pm and 6.30 pm The panel of Accredited NAFAS National Judges will be: Margaret Abernethy Kate Kerr Craig Bullock Joan Magee James Burnside Mary O Brien Lois Gill Mary O Keefe Lilias Hoskins Sheila Rodgers Wendy Howden Ann Trigg Arbitrators Pam Fleming-Williams (NAFAS Judging Committee Chairman) Margaret Rumens (NAFAS Judging Committee Vice Chairman) Class 19 will be judged by Ian Lloyd, Chairman of UK Floristry Judges Guild The judge s decision is final. The judges will be available to competitors on Friday 13 November from 8.30am to 11.30am to discuss their exhibits. Preview An exclusive Preview will take place on Thursday 12th November between 7.00 pm and 9.00 pm during which all results will be announced. Prize cards will be placed before the show opens to the public on Friday 13th November. All Competitors will receive one complimentary ticket to attend. Additional tickets may be purchased at a cost of 23 each accompanied by a stamped addressed envelope from: Debbie Wadge, 1 Christopher Close, Salisbury, Wilts, SP2 8QT. Cheques to be made payable to NAFAS Blackpool. Presentation of prizes Presentations of all prizes will take place in The Spanish Hall on Sunday 15th November at 3pm. They will be presented by Janet Hayton, President of NAFAS. Trophies awarded at the show will be presented at the prize-giving ceremony. A colour photograph of the presentation of the trophy will be taken and sent to the recipient. Trophies are to be left with the Competitions Officer for return to NAFAS Headquarters. Class 1 People s Choice Award will also be announced and a prize will be presented. Class 19 Competitors gaining 1st, 2nd, 3rd will be presented with Champagne and vouchers for floral sundries. Photography Competitors are reminded not to post photographs of exhibits on social media sites until after the judging has taken place. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Special Award Exhibits will be photographed by the official photographers under the direction of the National Photography Committee. NAFAS reserves the right to use any photographs of exhibits for any show publicity purposes. Dismantling Clearing of all exhibits will take place on Sunday 15th November between 5.30pm and 6.30pm when all visitors have left the halls. Competitors must wear a valid pass and may collect a further pass to admit one other person to assist in dismantling their exhibit(s). Competitors and assistants will be re-admitted only when the halls are empty. Competitors must ensure that all their rubbish is removed from the halls. Any exhibits left after this time will be disposed of by the Competitions Team

8 Awards In each class the judges will award 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Very Highly Commended, Highly Commended, and Commended. Best Individual Exhibit in the Show (excluding Classes 1, 3, 4, 17, 18, 19) will be awarded the Julia Clements Challenge Trophy. Runner-Up to the Best Individual Exhibit in the Show (excluding Classes 1, 3, 4, 17, 18, 19) will be awarded the Antique Silver Wine Cooler Challenge Trophy. WAFA Award. The winner or runner-up of the Best Individual Exhibit in the Show will be eligible for sponsorship at the WAFA Show 2017 (terms and conditions available on request). The Fresh Garden Plant Material Trophy will be awarded to the exhibit which best emphasises the use of fresh garden plant material. Robert Gibbs Trophy will be awarded to the exhibit which best emphasises the use of foliage. The NAFAS Colour Trophy will be awarded to the exhibit which best emphasises the use of colour. The NAFAS Texture Trophy will be awarded to the exhibit which best emphasises the use of texture, presented by Mrs Joan Cooper, Past President of NAFAS. Marion Aaronson Challenge Trophy will be awarded to the exhibit which best emphasises innovation. A Gold Ribbon will be awarded to any competitor who wins the first prize in each of three consecutive National Shows. Only one first prize will be accepted at each Show from any competitor towards a Gold Ribbon. NAFAS th Anniversary Award presented by Mrs Valerie Best, Past Chairman of NAFAS, to be awarded as follows: Given in the form of a 100 bursary for a period of 10 years to the Area which has the highest number of competitors at a National Show. Not for Area, Club, Craft or Junior Classes. The winning Area is not eligible for the next two National Shows. Presented at the prizegiving by the National Chairman to the winning Area s Chairman (cheque and certificate). It is Valerie Best s wish that the money will be given the following year to a competitor entering the National Show for the first time. If this applies to more than one person, it will be the decision of the Area as to which individual is selected. If the Area has no first time exhibitors, then it is awarded to another competitor at the Area s discretion. People s Choice Award the winners in Class 1 will be awarded Champagne and Vouchers. Class 19 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners will be awarded Champagne and Vouchers. In the following classes the winners will receive: Class 1 NAFAS Silver Challenge Trophy (Constance Spry Trophy) Class 2 Brunskill Trophy Class 3 Mary Graves Challenge Trophy. 2nd prize winner NIGFAS Challenge Trophy, presented by NIGFAS Area of NAFAS Class 4 Mary Napper Challenge Trophy Class 5 Robert Randall Trophy Class 6 Elsie Lamb Challenge Trophy (Sheffield Plate Candlesticks) Class 7 Mary Law Challenge Trophy, presented by Mrs Mary Law MBE, Past President of NAFAS Class 8 Revere Challenge Trophy and Affiliates Citation presented by the National Council of State Garden Clubs Inc. of the United States of America. The citations to be retained by the winner. Class 9 Garden News Trophy Class 10 Jean Taylor Challenge Trophy Class 11 Joan Newlyn Challenge Trophy and NAFAS Silver Pendant The pendant to be retained for one year Class 12 Flowers and Plants Association Trophy Class 13 NAFAS Jubilee Challenge Trophy Class 14 Evelyn Mercer Challenge Trophy, presented by Mrs Evelyn Mercer, Past President of NAFAS. Class 15 Edinburgh Cup, presented by Mrs J A Cooke, Life President of NAFAS Class 16 The Flower Arranger Award, a three-year subscription with binder to The Flower Arranger magazine. Class 17 Patricia Knight Challenge Trophy, the prize winners will also each receive a gift token. Class 18 Margaret Keith Challenge Trophy, the prize winners will also each receive a gift token.
