1 Term 2 Week 5 19th May 2017 ParentNet enews PRINCIPAL S WORDS YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE On Tuesday night, I had the pleasure of attending the Moot Court competition at Mareeba Courthouse. We had two teams entered and it was great to see our team successful in taking out this competition. The big message out of this relates to the opportunities for our students to undertake activities outside the classroom. Things like this do not happen by chance. Our Gifted and Talented coordinator, Christina Ellacott, along with Head of Department, Darren Jones, have given up their weekend to prepare our students. Without the commitment of our staff, opportunities such as the Moot Court competition simply do not happen. The great work done by all our staff is continually in evidence. The Transition visit by our cluster schools this week was well supported by our staff and has given the year 6 students a small snapshot into the life in a Secondary School. I can t say enough about the commitment by our staff to our school. It is a pleasure to be involved with such a dedicated group of educators. I would also like to acknowledge Mareeba State School at such a difficult time for the whole school community. Our thoughts are with the whole school and the families that have been affected by the loss of one of their staff. We are a team in Mareeba and we will be there to assist Mareeba State School in any way we can. Mareeba State High School Year 10 students participated in Work Experience this week. For many, this was the starting point of their work life, offering a glimpse into their future careers. We are very fortunate to have such wonderful support from our local businesses and industry groups. Placements were varied giving students a comprehensive insight into numerous career options and professions. Our school community would like to extend a huge thank you to the following organisations for their continued support of this valuable programme. 2 Wheel n Wear, Animal Refuse Mareeba, Bluebird early Learning Atherton, Burratronics, Cairns Total Physio, Central Vets Mareeba, Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, Essential Fitness, Gialati Limes, Hairworks Mareeba, Howe Farming, IGA Mareeba, JPF Contractors, Kids Campus Mareeba, Laser Scott Whybird Principal Electrical Mareeba, Mareeba Coles, Mareeba Court House, Mareeba Hire, Mareeba Hospital, Mareeba Leagues Club, Mareeba Madza, Mareeba Motorcycles, Mareeba Motors, My Mareeba Dentist, Mareeba Police Station, Mareeba State Primary School, Mareeba Toyota and Hansen Ford, Mareeba Tyre power, Millar and Teitzel, Moro Auto Mareeba, Mt Molloy State school, Northern Auto Electrical Mareeba, Priceline Pharmacy, Priceless Auto Mareeba, Rainforestation Kuranda, SEP Mechanic, Shane Smith Builders Pty Ltd Mareeba, Tableland hardware, Tableland Honda, TGT Agriculture and Yuruga Nursey.
