6 Los Alamos ScienceFest Jly 16 18, 2015 LOS ALAMOS SIGNATURE EVENT Los Alamos, New Mexico is a place of world changing, creative ideas and science. Los Alamos Science- Fest celebrates that heritage with history and science based events for the entire family. Last year over 6,500 attendees enjoyed the festival designed to highlight the grond breaking science that still happens at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. This year, Los Alamos MainStreet, in partnership with the Los Alamos Creative District, will prodce ScienceFest to promote the ongoing scientific excellence that contribtes to solving national challenges. ABOUT THE 2015 FESTIVAL Los Alamos ScienceFest celebrates the history and science of Los Alamos throgh engaging activities and events for people of all ages. This signatre event of Los Alamos is well attended and draws visitors from across the state of New Mexico and beyond. Thematic programming is schedled to begin with the Los Alamos Historical Society on Thrsday Jly 16th with a program on the 70th anniversary of the Trinity Site Test. Historic tors of town will begin on Friday, Jly 17. The Los Alamos Historical Society will be showing films as part of their Atomic Film Festival all day at Fller Lodge. An evening concert will draw the crowd downtown to Ashley Pond. 9 Fair & Rodeo Parade Jly 16 18, 2015 ABOUT THIS MAINSTREET EVENT The Fair & Rodeo weekend rns the second weekend in Agst. It is a familyoriented activity that attracts over 7,000 people throghot the weekend. The highlight of the weekend happens on Satrday, as Central Avene is lined with decorated floats as the parade passes by. Thosands set p lawn chairs and tents to view the colorfl and entertaining parade entries. Families gather to see old friends and celebrate Los Alamos as a commnity. 10 Halloweekend October 30 31, 2015 ABOUT THIS MAINSTREET EVENT Halloweekend is anchored by Trick or Treat on MainStreet. This event is by far the most poplar in the commnity. It is sch a draw that families come p from the srronding region to attend. Approximately 12,000 people participate over Friday and Satrday. This event kicks off with a scarecrow contest that rns throghot the week. On Friday afternoon, Central Avene is closed for trick or treating. Bsinesses hand ot bckets of candy and goodies to costmed families. Street dance performances, marching bands, and a dog costme parade make this event memorable for the entire family. Other local organizations also participate like the Bradbry Science Msem s High-Tech Halloween, Conty Pmpkin Patch and Hayride and a Costme Climb at the YMCA climbing wall. On Satrday, there is pmpkin carving, the Pmpkin Glow and Halloween Dance at Fller Lodge. 13 Holiday Lights Parade December 4 6, 2015 ABOUT THIS MAINSTREET EVENT Winterfest Weekend is a family-oriented holiday event that celebrates winter in Los Alamos. More than 11,000 people participate throghot the weekend. A nmber of bsinesses and organizations host events inclding ballet, art shows, book signings, the Children s Bazaar and Breakfast with Santa. The Fller Lodge Open Hose and the Lminaria Walk always draw crowds. Bt, the highlight of the weekend is the Holiday Lights Parade along Central Avene. The crowds brave the cold and bndle p to see parade floats that glitter with holiday lights. There is even a marching band. The parade leads the crowds to Ashley Pond for the lighting of the holiday tree.
