1 2018 Breed & Other 4-H Show Specials Following is a list of breed associations and what awards they are willing to present at 4-H club and regional shows. Please Note: When you contact an association, please send the full name and address of the 4-H member, the name of the sire or dam (if applicable), the birth date of the animal and a photo of the winner and animal (if possible). Please contact the association before your achievement day and regional show in order to have representatives in attendance to make presentations. Saskatchewan Angus Belinda Wagner Box 3771 Regina S4P 3N8 Ph Fax office@saskatchewanangus.com Achievement Day: The association will present an Angus gift to each member showing an Angus or Angus-Cross animal, provided the animal qualifies for the Angus class. Regional Show: The association will present an Angus Champion jacket or sweatshirt to the exhibitor of the overall Grand and Reserve Grand Champion steer, heifer and cow-calf pair, provided the animal is entered as Angus and shows Angus characteristics. Saskatchewan Hereford Marilyn Charlton Box 713 Weyburn S4H 2K8 Ph Fax skhereford@sasktel.net Achievement Day: The association will present a promotional gift to each member showing a Hereford or Hereford-Influence animal. Hereford breeding must be stated at time of entry. In order to receive the promotional gift, the club leader is to contact the SHA office providing the name of the event, including date and location, and the member s name. In the event that the member has more than one qualifying animal, only one promotional gift will be given out. Regional Show: On behalf of the Saskatchewan Hereford, Triple H Farm will award an embroidered jacket/sweatshirt to the overall Grand/Reserve Champion Steer, Heifer, and Cow/Calf pair, provided the animal is entered as Hereford and displays Hereford characteristics. Please send a picture and jacket size to Michell Heidecker (triplehfarm.ca) and, if possible, presentation will be made at Agribition. Contact the SSA secretary with the number of awards required. Allow a minimum of 2 weeks for shipping. Regional Show: The association will award a Champion jacket/hoodie to the exhibitor of the overall Grand Champion and Reserve Champion in the steer, yearling heifer, 2 year old cow/calf and 3 year old cow/calf classes, provided the animal is 50% or more Simmental. Open classes do not qualify. To qualify for the award please submit your name, address, phone number, jacket size and a photo of the member with their animal, to be used for promotional purposes. In the event that a member has more than one qualifying winner at a regional show, only one jacket/hoodie will be awarded. Please submit all information by August 1st. The association will award a certificate and $50 to members showing Blonde-sired animals in 4-H events in Saskatchewan. The member will need to send a letter to the association confirming the animal shown was a Blonde-sired animal. The letter should include the name of the event in which they participated, including the date and location, the member s name, mailing address and telephone number and the name, address and telephone number of the event organizer. A few weeks after the event, the member will receive in the mail a recognition certificate and a cheque for $50. Saskatchewan Shorthorn c/o Jodi Hawken Box 27 Wawota, SK S0G 5A0 jodihawken@sasktel.net A $500 purchase certificate will be awarded for the Grand Champion steer or female, and a $250 purchase certificate to the Reserve Champion steer or female at regional shows, plus a promotional gift. The animal must be one half or better Shorthorn breeding and show strong Shorthorn characteristics. Shorthorn breeding must be stated at time of entry. The purchase certificate will be honoured provided the animal is purchased at any Shorthorn sanctioned sale in Saskatchewan and expires December 31 st of the following year. Members MUST provide their name, address, hard copy picture and a letter of accomplishment to Jodi NO LATER than September 1 st. A promotional item will be awarded for Grand Champion steer or female at club level, provided it is one half or better Shorthorn breeding and showing strong Shorthorn characteristics. Shorthorn breeding must be stated at time of entry. 3 Prince Albert Exhibition Robbie Ross Director Ph Regional Show: The association will award free entry to the open show at the 2018, August 1-4, Summer Fair to the following winners at a 2018 regional show: Grand and Reserve Champion Heifer Calf; Grand and Reserve Bull Calf; Grand and Reserve Champion yearling Heifer; Grand and Reserve Champion 2 year old Cow/Calf Pair; Grand and Reserve Champion 3 year old Cow/Calf Pair; Grand & Reserve Champion female Open to both purebred and commercial cattle. Entries close July 20/18. Limit of one free entry per member Contact the PAEX for entry forms. In order to receive free entry the regional show committee must submit a list of winners to the PAEX immediately following their Regional 4-H Show. Saskatchewan Charolais Stephen Wielgosz Box 71Yellow Creek S0K 4X0 Ph wielgoszsk@gmail.com The association will award a personalized embroidered fitting pants to the member showing the Grand Champion &/or Reserve Grand Champion Charolais sired steer, heifer, cow/calf pair over all breeds. These will be presented at Agribition, if possible. ALL 4-H members are to receive a promotional item providing they show a Charolais sired animal. These can be ordered ahead of time and presented at their Achievement Day or Regional Show. Please note that the 4-H Club Leader is responsible for ordering these for the entire club. All 4-H members will be entered into a draw for $1000 to purchase a current year heifer calf from a purebred Charolias breeder, providing they show a Charolais sired animal. This draw will take place at the Saskatchewan Charolais AGM in July. In order to receive the promotional gift, the club leader is to contact the CRAPS office with names of the 4-H members, name of the event with dates and location. In the event that the member has more than one qualifying animal, only one promotional gift will be given out. Attend the Annual Red Roundup event held every fall for a chance to be awarded a SALES CREDIT towards your purchase of a Red Angus at this sale. A fun show to be part of and excitement for the members. Saskatchewan Maine-Anjou Carolyn McCormack Secretary/Treasurer Box 591 Grenfell, SK S0G 2B0 Regional Show: The association will award a Champion t-shirt to the exhibitor of the overall Grand Champion and Reserve Champion in the steer, yearling heifer, 2 year old cow/calf and 3 year old cow/calf classes, provided the animal is 50% or more Maine-Anjou. Open classes do not qualify. To qualify for the award please submit your name, address, phone number, t-shirt size and a photo of the member with their animal, to be used for promotional purposes. In the event that a member has more than one qualifying winner at a regional show, only one shirt will be awarded. Please submit all information by August 1. Limousininfluence can be either sire or dam influence. Regional Show: The association will present a Limousin award to the exhibitor of the overall grand and reserve grand champion steer, heifer and cow-calf pair, provided the animal is entered as Limousin of Limousin-influence. Limousin-influence can be either sire or dam influence. In order to receive the award Lee Carpenter will need to have the member s name, address and 4-H club name before November 1 st. In the event a member has more than one qualifying winner, only one award will be given out. The association would like a photo of the member and the animal to use for breed promotional purposes. Canadian Speckle Park CSPA C/O Janice Morland Ph: morlandacres@sasktel.net Achievement Day: A Speckle Park Clipboard, pencil case and pencil (or prize of similar value) and a $20.00 gift certificate for the purchase of next year s Speckle Park project will be given to every 4-H member who completes the 4-H year with one or more Speckle Park. To qualify for this awards or to redeem the gift certificate towards next year s project, the Speckle Park must have been sired by a registered Speckle Park bull, out of a registered Speckle Park dam or originate from a source of demonstrable Speckle Park influence. The application for any award must be accompanied by a colored photo of the 4-H member with the animal to which the application applies. The application must be received by CSPA office by July 31st of the current 4-H year to receive the awards.
