4 Bradford-Union Counties: Welcome to the 2017 Bradford County Fair! This year s theme is God Bless America: Bring on the Red, White, and Blue! We want everyone to enjoy themselves at our hometown fair featuring the patriotic folks of Bradford and Union counties. We are continually working to improve our fair and this year is no exception with an exciting midway, awesome exhibits, and gospel and country music every night! On behalf of the Bradford County Fair Association, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many dedicated individuals who have worked very hard to make this event a success. The help and support of each and every person in the community who is involved is greatly appreciated. There are many local businesses and industries that provide employment opportunities for our community. The Bradford County Fair provides an informative environment which supports and promotes those businesses and industries. 12 General Information 2017 Bradford County Fair TUESDAY - FRIDAY March :00 PM - 11:00PM SATURDAY March 11 1:00 PM - 11:00 PM SUNDAY March 12 1:00 PM - 9:00 PM Exhibits will be closed at 10 PM each night of the fair and 9 PM on Saturday. The buildings and barns are NOT open on Sunday. Special admission and midway prices will be offered during Fair Week. Specials are listed on the back of this book. 14 Booth Exhibitor Rules & Regulations Exhibitors may set up Friday, Saturday, and Monday, 3/3, 3/4, & 3/6 from 9 AM - 7 PM and Tuesday, March 7 from 9 AM - Noon. All booths must be in place by Tuesday, March 7 at 12:00 noon. No set-up on Monday in Building #3 due to judging. All booths not occupied by Tuesday, March 8, 5:00 pm will revert to the fair and all payments will be forfeited. The judging for all fair booths will take place at 2:00 pm on opening day. All exhibits and goods must be unpacked. Empty cases must be removed by exhibitors and concessionaires (who shall pay all expenses of conveying, delivering, arranging and removing their exhibits as well as the cost of erection of booths, fixtures, counters and all apparatus in connection with their exhibit). Electric lighting and wiring of every description shall be installed at the expense of the exhibitor under the supervision of the Fair Management. All exhibitors and concessionaires must furnish their own electrical fixtures. For security reasons, exhibitors may enter the building only one hour prior to opening each day of the fair. Deliveries by truck must be made 1 hour prior to opening time each day of the event. All exhibits must remain intact until 9:00 PM Saturday night. These exhibits can be removed after that time until 11 PM Saturday or on Sunday, March 12, 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Aisles must be kept clear. No signs, banners, advertisements, trash, decorations or parts of exhibits will be permitted in the aisles. No soliciting in the aisles. Background draperies and/or side curtains will be provided by the Fair Association for all exhibition spaces. Bottled gas containers (butane, propane, etc.) are not permitted inside any Fair building. All decorations must be fireproof and subject to the approval of the Fair Management. Machinery in motion must be enclosed with a railing at a uniform height from the ground or floor of two feet, six inches (2 6 ), side railing to be placed upon or within boundary of space occupied by the exhibitor. Exhibitors can sell and may advertise and distribute literature and advertising materials from their booth only. No speaking devices will be allowed in the building. Each exhibitor selling products is responsible for collecting sales tax and reporting it to the Department of Revenue themselves. This contract does not give exclusive rights to sell or display any product unless so specified on the Contract for Space. 14

15 Exhibitors Entries: Only articles listed in the premium list will be accepted for competition with awards given. Exhibited articles may not be removed until 9:00 PM on Saturday, March 11 or from 2:00-4:00 PM on Sunday, March 12. Removal of exhibits prior to this will be reason for forfeiture of any premium monies awarded. All individual entries are open to Bradford County residents and those residing in surrounding counties which do not have a county fair otherwise stated. ALL FAIR BOOTH WORKERS MUST HAVE ADMISSION TICKETS OR PAY THE $6.00 PER DAY FEE OR $20.00 FOR ENTIRE WEEK S PASS. Booth Awards Awards will be presented to the best overall booths following judging on Tuesday, March 7. There will NOT be educational and commercial categories; only the top three highest scoring booths will be awarded. 16 SIGNS - Painted or printed signs in or on front of booth must be confined to firm or individual s name to whom space is leased and/or sponsors thereof. THE MANAGEMENT RESERVES THE RIGHT to remove from the grounds any article, exhibit, show or concession, or any part thereof, or any appurtenance thereto including banners, signs or advertising matter which may be deemed unsuitable or objectionable and no refund of any money already paid for space or privilege will be made, which action shall exonerate the MANAGEMENT FROM ANY AND ALL CLAIMS whatsoever on the part of the exhibitors or concessionaires. No claims for injury to any person, or injury to or loss of any property on account of fire and theft, for any cause, shall ever be instituted against the Bradford County Fair Association, Inc., its officers or agents, by or on behalf of any person, firm or corporation having license or privilege to exhibit on the Bradford County Fair Grounds or in the buildings. In case any exhibitor or exhibitors or concessionaires shall at any time be indebted to the Bradford County Fair Association, Inc., the corporation shall have the right to retain possession of all property of any exhibitor or exhibitors or concessionaires located on the Bradford County Fair Grounds or in the buildings, and sell and dispose of, either at public or private sale, all or any part thereof that may be necessary to pay the indebtedness due the Corporation. The exhibitor or concessionaire will not be permitted to sublet any part of the space herein leased, or the exhibit therein any article other than those sold by himself and specified in the contract. 18 Agriculture Products and Horticulture Division Superintendent... Jim DeValerio, Bradford Co. Agriculture Agent Eligibility: Open to amateur and professional gardeners who are residents of or work in Bradford and Union Counties. Divisions: Divisions compete independently of each other. Youth Division: Participants should be 18 years old or younger as of September 1, A. Youth Division (Y) B. Youth Exceptional (YE) Adult Division: Participants should be 19 years or older as of September 1, A. Amateur (AA) B. Professional (AP) Nursery operators, landscapers horticulture instructors and consultants. C. Adult Exceptional (AE) Plant Delivery & Registration: All plants should be brought to the entry receiving area located in Building #2 at the fairgrounds on Monday, March 6, 2017 between 8:30 am and 6:00 pm. Master Gardener volunteers will be on hand to assist you in filling out a registration form, and they will attach an exhibit tag to each plant. After your plants have been accepted and tagged it is requested that you leave the area in order to avoid congestion. There are no entry fees. Plant Removal: The receipt stub (bottom half of your registration form) MUST be presented at the time of exhibit removal. Exhibits will not be released without this stub unless approved by the Horticulture Exhibition Superintendent. Exhibits may be removed on Sunday, March 12, 2017 from 2-4 pm and on Monday, March 13, from 10:00 am until noon. Workers will be on hand to aid in pick up and to give out premium monies. Plants may not be removed at any other time unless prior arrangements have been made. Any unclaimed plants and prize money will be donated to the Bradford County Master Gardener program. 18

19 Forms: All exhibitors must submit their contact information when plants are entered. Care: You may choose to maintain your own plants throughout the fair. If you choose to do this, you must complete any work and leave 2 hours before the fair gates open. You will be instructed on how to enter the fairgrounds. Otherwise, plant care will be provided by the Bradford County Master Gardeners and the volunteer helpers. All reasonable efforts will be made to provide adequate care and protection for the exhibits during the fair. The Fair Association and the Bradford County Extension Office are not responsible for damage to exhibits due to damaging weather conditions or improper care or handling. Entry Limitations: One plant is considered one entry. Each entry will compete in one section and must be of exhibition quality. Exhibitors may not enter more than one plant of the same variety or color. Plant Standards: Plants listed on the State of Florida Conservation List as rare or endangered will not be accepted unless acquired in a documented legal manner. Any plant with pests will be disqualified, even if it was accepted at registration. All plants must be clean, groomed and in appropriate clean containers/pots. There is no limit to size of container, but containers larger than 18 must be set in place by the owner with our help. The use of plant shine or other oils will disqualify the entry. Judging: Judging will take place on Tuesday, March 7, from 12-2 pm. The decisions of the judges are final. Criteria: Adult division entries must have been grown by the exhibitor for at least 6 months, while Youth division exhibits for 3 months by the exhibitor. The only exception to this rule is vegetables grown in pots and/or cut. Cultural Perfection: Plant must have good form and symmetry according to variety, health, and condition of foliage, flowers and fruit. Attractiveness of Display: Pot condition is very important. Black plastic pots will be accepted, but they must be clean and in good repair with no cracks, holes, etc. Decoration of the pot should be kept to a minimum. Double potting is allowed. (Example: placing a less attractive pot, like black plastic, into a more decorative pot.) Plant should not be freshly repotted. 19

20 Plant Size: According to variety, Pot size should be in scale to plant size. Condition: Plant cleaned and groomed. Pot clean. Debris removed. Awards: After being judged, the entries will receive either a 1st, 2nd or 3rd. 1. Section B: Bromeliads and Orchids Class 1: With Bloom Class 2: Without Bloom Section C: Cactus/Succulents/Euphorbia's Class 1: With Bloom Class 2: Without Bloom Section D: African Violets Class 1: With Bloom Class 2: Without Bloom Section E: Foliage Includes all plants grown for foliage, and plants without flowers or fruit, variegated, colored and or green, tropical or landscape. Section F: Special Display Dish gardens, wire framed, topiaries, terrariums. Section G: Bonsai All sizes and styles in pots, trays, or racks. Class 1: Blooming/Fruiting-Must have flowers/fruit. Class 2: Non-Blooming/Fruiting 20

22 Home Division Superintendents... Lane Tenly and Barbara Mosely Rules & Regulations: 1. Entries in the home division are open to all nonprofessional...men, women, youth (ages 6-18.) 2. Only articles listed in this premium book will be accepted for competition, with awards of either cash or ribbons given. 3. All articles displayed must be the work of the individual exhibitor. Articles bought or borrowed will not qualify. 4. No articles will be accepted for judging that have previously been exhibited at the Bradford County Fair. 5. All entries must be clean and in good condition and must have been completed with the past twelve (12) months. 6. No two (2) entries in the same lot will be accepted from one individual. 7. Entries must be brought to the fairgrounds for registration during scheduled hours. 8. Entries will be accepted Monday, March 6, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM ONLY. 9. Exhibit articles can be picked up Saturday, March 11, 9:00-11:00 PM. Removal of exhibits prior to this time will be reason for forfeiture of any premium monies awarded. Exhibitors must be personally responsible for their articles. Provision has also been made for exhibitors to remove their articles on Sunday, March 12 from 2:00-4:00 PM. 10. The Bradford County Fair Association, Inc. will assume NO responsibility for the damage or loss of articles exhibited. Reasonable care will be exercised to safeguard the articles left for display, but the Bradford County Fair Association will in no way be liable. 11. Judging will take place in Building 3 Tuesday, March 7, 9:00-12:00 Noon. 12. The public will not be allowed in the building while judging is in progress. 13. A blue ribbon, red ribbon or white ribbon will be awarded in each lot at the discretion of the judges. There will be Best Over-All rosettes awarded. 14. All jars must be clear, white glass (standard) canning jars either her half pint, pint or quart. Jars must be clean. Rings removed, lids free of rust. All products should have been sealed by water bath or pressure canner. Paraffin is not accepted. No freezer products. 15. No commercial mixes or products to be entered. 22

23 16. All baked products must be on a heavy piece of cardboard covered with aluminum foil, not to exceed 2 beyond the product and must be labeled with the recipe attached to the bottom. Removal of exhibits prior to this time will be reason for forfeiture of any premium monies awarded. Exhibitors must personally attend to the removal of their articles. 10. In classes where there is no competition, ribbons will be awarded at the discretion of the judges. 11. The Bradford County Fair Association, Inc. will assume NO responsibility for the damage or loss of articles exhibited. Reasonable care will be exercised to safeguard the articles left for display but the Fair Association will in no way be liable. 12. Pictures should be properly mounted and prepared for hanging. 13. Each article must be labeled with name and address of exhibitor on the back or bottom. 14. Judging will take place Tuesday, March 7, 9:00 AM - 12:00 Noon. 15. 35 Youth Goat Show and Little Kids Exhibition Superintendents... Allison Hartley and Lisa Holtzendorf Show Date: Saturday, March 4, 2017, 2:00 p.m. Location: Bradford County Livestock Area Goats will arrive on Saturday, March 4, 2017 from 9:00-11:00 AM. The show will be on Saturday, March 4 at 2:00 PM in the livestock arena. Goats will be released after the show on Saturday night. All goats must be removed within one hour of the show conclusion on March 4, Health Rules: All goats consigned for public exhibition in Florida must be covered by an Official Health Certificate issued by an accredited veterinarian certifying the animal to be free from symptoms of contagious or infectious diseases. This health certificate is to be obtained within 90 days of the Youth Goat Show and will be inspected upon arrival. Per Stare of Florida regulations, all animals must be participating in the scrapies eradication program and have a scrapies tag or be registered by a breed association and have a legible tattoo and a certificate of registration. Order your tag at (352) , option #2. Tags are free and comes with an ear tag applicator. Be sure to order in advance and allow at least 2 weeks to arrive. If you purchase from a breeder, the breeder should tag goat (per Florida law) and you will not need to order scrapie tags. Eligibility: The Youth Goat Show is open to all 4-H and FFA youth in both Bradford and Union Counties. Must be of age as of September 1, Ages for each division are as follows: Little Bits year olds Juniors year olds Intermediates year olds Seniors years and up *Divisions may be combined at show time due to participation. Entries: No buck entries will be accepted. Only doe and wether entries will be allowed. An exhibitor may have up to 3 entries but only one entry per class including wether. Classes will be determined by breed and age of goat. The Little Bit class may have any age doe or wether. Entries will be accepted by pre-registration only. Pre-entry deadline is Dec. 20, 2016 at the scheduled meeting. All 4-H guidelines for minimum standards must be met. FFA members must meet minimum standards with FFA. Entry forms are at the Bradford or Union County Extension Office. Record Books: Junior, Intermediate and Senior exhibitors are required to complete a 4-H or FFA goat project record book. The 4-H leader will have an activity sheet available for the Little Bits (5-7 age group) at the Bradford Co. Extension Office. Goat project record books are to be turned into the Bradford County Extension Office on or before February 18, Record books from both counties will be collected, combined and judged at the same time. 35

Dairy goats must be shown with a chain collar and all other goats must be shown with a matching loop leash and collar or chain collar. 4. Wethers must be body clipped. 5. Exhibitors must provide their own feed, feed containers, and water containers. Exhibitors are responsible for keeping their area clean and neat, and are responsible for watering and feeding their own animal(s). 6. Hay is not permitted in the pens in the Livestock Pavilion where the goats will be housed. 7. Junior, Intermediate & Senior exhibitors are required to wear 4-H or FFA attire and all exhibitors must wear black jeans and closed toe shoes. 8. State of Florida requires all goats must be either tagged or ear tattooed. 9. All goat exhibitors and vehicles transporting goats must enter the fairgrounds using the Livestock Gate off of Highway NO goats in pens until inspected by State Inspectors. Violators will be disqualified. NO EXCEPTIONS. Entry Fee: $15 per entry Make checks payable to the Bradford County 4-H Foundation. No entry fee for showmanship contest. Little Bits may not compete in showmanship. Junior, Intermediate and Senior exhibitors may enter up to 3 classes. 37 Little Kids Exhibition : The Little Bits Exhibition is for youth ages 5-7. (Must be 5 by September 1, 2016.) They may have assistance from any one person they choose to help them in the ring. They will receive a ribbon and premium money for participation. Showmanship Contest: Exhibitor must be of age by September 1, 2016 Junior Showmanship year olds Intermediate Showmanship year olds Senior Showmanship years and up Judging: 1. The Modified Danish System of judging will be used for the Goat Classes. All participants will receive ribbons. 2. Goats will be judged on confirmation. 3. Youth Showmanship will be judged on the exhibitor s ability to properly show the goat, fitting and the ability to answer the judge s questions. 4. One Overall Grand Champion and one Reserve Grand Champion goat will be selected. 5. The Wether Division will also have a grand and reserve. 6. There will be a Skill-a-thon before the show for all Junior, Intermediate and Senior Exhibitors. The Skill-a-thon will begin at 11:30 AM and close at 1:30 PM. A winner for each age group will be announced before the goat show. Awards: Premium Money for all participants will be awarded. Rosettes will be awarded to the grand and reserve grand goat in each division. Awards will also be given for each division in 4-H and FFA for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place record books. 41 Bradford-Union Swine Association 2017 Show & Sale Revised: September 2016 Rules & Regulations: Failure to comply with all the following rules and regulations may result in expulsion from the 2017 BUSA Show and Sale and/or result in refusal from showing in future shows. A Grievance Committee appointed by the President will rule on infractions that are submitted in writing within 48 hours of an incident and determine penalties for the exhibitor(s). Any person paying for a membership and/or exhibitor s fee at the October 2016 meeting will agree this event establishes acceptance of these rules and regulations as voted and accepted by two-thirds vote of the membership present during the September 2016 meeting. Any exhibitor that fails to meet any of the requirements set forth in this document regardless if fault is with the exhibitor themselves, parents, guardians, school, church, or clubs MUST deliver in writing the issue that caused the requirements not to be met and their argument on why they should not be removed from the show and/or sale within 48 hours of the incident to Eric Hall, Kevin Graham, Penny Hersey or Nicole Barnes in person. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to arrange to meet one of the above mentioned and deliver the letter. A phone call will not be counted as part of the 48- hour requirement; the letter itself has to be delivered within the set time line. The letter will be forwarded to the grievance committee, the committee will then meet at their earliest convenience to determine the outcome of the event and then notify the exhibitor, Officers and Board of Directors of their decision. ALL GRIEVANCE COMMITTEE DECISIONS ARE FINAL! Exhibitor Requirements: 1. Anyone wishing to enter the 2017 BUSA Show and Sale must, along with their parents or legal guardians, join the BUSA no later than the October 2016 Meeting. Membership dues are a non-refundable $30.00 per family. The October 2016 BUSA members must also pay a non-refundable registration fee of $20.00 per exhibit. (This fee is refundable before December tag-in if you choose not to show your animal.) 41

42 2. The BUSA member and one parent or legal guardian must attend all five mandatory meetings. Each exhibitor and one parent is required to sign in at the end of each meeting. If a student has a school or 4-H function, student must present a letter 48 hours ahead to a board member. A parent or guardian must still attend the meeting. Meetings are held on the second Monday night of October, November, January, and February. The December meeting is Saturday, December 3, 2016, which is the tag-in. The tag-in will be from 8 am to 10 am. All other meetings will begin at 7 PM. The September meetings will be alternated each fiscal year between Bradford and Union counties. Any member not compliant with this requirement will lose their right to participate in the 2017 BUSA show and sale. 3. BUSA members wishing to show a hog must attend school and reside in Bradford or Union County. The BUSA member also be a member in good standing of 4-H or FFA in Bradford or Union County. Must be homesteaded in Bradford or Union County. 4. Each BUSA exhibitor must assume all liability in case of injury or damage to, or caused by the exhibitor s animal, relieving the Fair Association, the BUSA, FFA and the 4-H Clubs from ALL liability. Swine Association Requirements: 1. All hogs must comply with health requirements of the Division of Animals and Industry, Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Service. 2. All swine projects must have been owned and under control of each BUSA exhibitor. 3. Its exhibitor ONLY must care for each BUSA swine project. This means relatives and friends cannot raise your hog for you. Housing your swine exhibit at the Bradford or Union Ag. facilities will be acceptable. 4. All entries and awards in the Market Swine Show shall be subject to the Bradford County Fair Rules and Regulations published in the 2017 Fair Premium Book. These rules may be obtained at the Fair Office. Exhibit Inspection: An inspection team appointed by the President will be formed, if needed, to inspect swine projects. Ticket Sales: Each BUSA swine exhibitor will be issued 10, $2.00, FREEZER HOG TICKETS at the October 2016 BUSA meeting payable in full at that time. The exhibitor has a choice to sell the 10 tickets to help offset expenses of their project or keep them for themselves. All ticket stubs will be required to be turned in at the February meeting or at the weigh-in to be qualified for the freezer pig drawing at the 2017 sale. If you fail to turn in your ticket stubs by the required time, you will not be eligible to compete in the drawing for the awarded freezer pig at the 2017 BUSA Sale. All exhibitors are required to wear their armband throughout the fair for free admission. 42

43 Tag-In: A tag and tattoo only meeting for any BUSA member in good standing that wishes to exhibit in the 2017 Bradford-Union Swine Show and Sale, will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the Bradford County Fair Grounds and the Union County Riding Club. This event will take place between the hours of 8:00-10:00 AM. The gate will be locked at 10:00 AM. The exhibitor MUST be present along with the pig they intend to exhibit. The exhibitor is responsible to catch and hold their exhibit while it is tagged and tattooed or provide someone to perform this responsibility on the exhibitor s behalf. Any exhibitor that fails to fulfill this requirement will not have their pig tagged or tattooed, thus not qualifying for the 2017 show and sale. (Any exhibitor that is involved in any competition or tournament must turn a letter into any BUSA officer 48 hours BEFORE tag-in. You must appoint someone to tag your pig in.) Weigh-In: The final weigh-in will be Monday, March 6, 2017 at the Bradford County Fair Grounds livestock area. The final decision concerning the time will be announced at the swine meetings. Minimum weight at the weigh-in will be 240 pounds. Maximum weight not to exceed 290 pounds. No swine exhibit will be allowed on the scale for final weigh in unless it is clean and free of all debris, to include grease, sand, mud and/or any materials not typically found in a stock trailer used to haul market quality livestock. Sale weights will be capped at 275 pounds. At final weigh-in a parent or exhibitor must be there to unload the hog off the trailer. The on-site BUSA officer or board member will determine if each exhibitor has met compliance. EXHIBITORS MUST WEAR CLOSED-TOE SHOES. NO SANDALS. IF RULE IS NOT FOLLOWED PIG WILL NOT BE WEIGHED IN! Grading: Graders selected by the BUSA Committee will grade all hogs. Only hogs conforming to established show standards for quality and grading, #1 swine on the hoof will be accepted, but still not to exceed the number of pens provided by the fair association. (Not to exceed 95 pigs.) After selection of the hogs has been made, it will be up to the exhibitor to take their pig back home that night if it was cut from the show and sale. 43

44 Show: Only swine that were tagged and tattooed on the Saturday, December 3, 2016 by the BUSA and meet weight and grading requirements will be shown at the 2017 BUSA Swine Show. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE!!! Immediately after weigh-in and grading is completed, a short meeting will be held in the bleacher area for last minute instructions and barn rules. All exhibitors are expected to be present until this meeting is over. Roll may be called. Show will be held Tuesday March 7, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. All exhibitors must be in the designated area and ready to show his/her pig when their class is called. If you do not show your animal it will not be auctioned in the regular sale, it will be placed on the resale list and sold at resale price plus any individual add-ons. Failure of not showing the animal will result in not being eligible to exhibit in the 2018 Show. The only exceptions for not showing are a death in immediate family or a medical emergency. A chart detailing weight and class will be posted in the swine barn. Showmanship Contest: A showmanship contest will be determined at a later date. Age as of September 1, Trophies or cash awards will be awarded in the following divisions: Juniors (1st, 2nd, 3rd) year olds Intermediates (1st, 2nd, 3rd) year olds Seniors (1st, 2nd, 3rd) years and up Homegrown: Homegrown classes will be held as the last class of the show if the grand or reserve champions are not homegrown. Hogs must have been born and raised in Bradford or Union County. A Grand and Reserve Champion will be selected. A certificate of birth signed by the breeder must be turned in at the tag and tattoo meeting on Saturday, December 3, 2016 to qualify for this class. 45 Sale: 1. Sale will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. The awards program will begin at 6:00 p.m. The Buyers dinner will be at 5:00 p.m. 2. All animals must be slaughtered following the sale to fulfill state laws. 3. A 5% sales commission will be deducted from the sale price. Five percent will be used to defray the cost of the Swine Show and Sale. Final weigh-in will determine sale weight; maximum sale weight is set a 275 pounds. Scale weight will be final unless the 275 pound capped weight rule has to be placed on the exhibitors pig. 4. The cost of the photo will be determined by bids submitted in accordance with BUSA criterion. The cost will be paid by each exhibitor and deducted from his or her sale total to include any handling fees. Each exhibitor will have at least one picture for each buyer and one for themselves. 5. Exhibitors must be at the designated area in the stands and prepared to enter the sale ring promptly in turn. Failure to comply will result in your hog being sold at the sales auctioned re-sale price. The only exception is the death of an immediate family member or medical emergency. All exhibitors will follow barn rules; according to the severity of the rule infraction the barn manager can disqualify you from 2017 BUSA Swine Show and Sale as well as future BUSA events. You must feed your animal every day in the morning and afternoon, Monday through Saturday. Failure to comply with this rule will result in a $50 fee taken from your check every time you don t feed your animal. 48 2017 Bradford-Union Youth Show and Sale Revised: September 2016 Eligibility: All exhibitors must be qualified 4-H or FFA members in Bradford or Union Counties. Exhibitors must live in Bradford or Union Counties OR attend school in Bradford or Union Counties. Parent or Guardian must be a member of the Bradford-Union Youth Show & Sale (BUYSS) by October Sign-Up Meeting. Two membership options are available: 1. $45 for the local BUYSS (all local dues stay local) 2. $80 to also include N FL and state Cattleman s Association dues Entry Fees: $25 Entry Fee per exhibitor for first animal and $10 for each additional animal is required at the October Sign-Up Meeting. Beef Tickets: The Association will hold a raffle for two quarters of a steer, one front quarter and one hind quarter, as a fundraiser to cover the expenses of the youth show and sale. The raffle will be held at the conclusion of the sale, winners do not need to be present to win. Exhibitors must pick up and pay for 20 beef tickets per animal at Sign-Ups. Tickets are $1.00 each. Ticket stubbs must be turned in by conclusion of the second weigh-in. Fundraisers: Exhibitors must participate in at least one fundraiser. Fundraiser options are: Exhibition show following First Weigh-On, $20 entry fee Provide item for silent auction held during exhibition show Sell additional 50 beef raffle tickets Exhibitor must remain in good standing from entry date until show date. Meetings: Meetings are the 2nd Thursday of each month starting in October and running through February. The October meeting is for Sign-Ups. November meeting is the Annual Dinner (MUST RSVP). Exhibitors must attend two (2) of the four (4) meetings from November to February and sign in at the meetings to be eligible to show. If an exhibitor does not sign in, attendance will not be counted. The BUYSS may set or call additional meetings as necessary. All meetings will be held at the New River Volunteer Fire Station 2017 NW CR 235, Lake Butler, FL

49 Grade: Only animals grading US Select or better by the official grader, may enter the Steer Show and Sale. Type: The animal must be of Beef Breeding Type. Liability: The exhibitor assumes liability in case of death or injury of an animal until sold. NO official may be held liable for loss of any steer. Health Requirements: All animals must comply with health requirements of the Division of Animal Industry, Origin of Animal: May be purchased anywhere. The animal must be polled or dehorned 30 days before the show. However, scurs and secondary growth of horns,four (4) inches or less, will be accepted. Final decisions of acceptance will be made by the Grievance Committee. Classes: Classes shall be made up by weight. Final classes to be made by the show Weigh-In Committee. Each exhibitor is responsible for seeing that their animal arrives on time at the place designated by show officials. Show Judging: A Judge may place an animal down in it s respective class, should it show indication of being poorly trained or managed. If the animal is not shown in its respective class, it cannot be sold. Home Grown Contest: Only animals born in Bradford and in Union Counties are eligible for entry in the Home Grown Class. Home Grown Breeder Certificate must be turned in with the entry form on October Sign-Ups animal to be eligible. Grievance: No person, under any circumstances will be allowed to gripe or complain about any ruling by a Show or Grading Official. All complaints will be addressed in writing to the Show Grievance Committee with a $50 nonrefundable fee payable to the BUYSS. Any deviation from this rule will result in the entry being eliminated from the Show and any future Steer or Breed Show. The Show Grievance Committee and the BUYSS officers reserve the right to address any issue concerning the safety and welfare of exhibitors and the general public at any time. Official Dress: Will wear official 4-H or National FFA Association attire when showing and at Show & Sale. Must show either 4-H or FFA (NOT BOTH) and be declared by the October Sign- Ups. 49

50 Record Books: The exhibitor must maintain a current record book of the steer/breed project. The current record book must be turned into the exhibitors 4-H/FFA Advisor by February 18, Record books must be signed and approved by Extension Agent or Bo-Ag Teacher. The 4-H/FFA Advisor must check in all the record books to a Bradford Union Show and Sale representative at the Bradford/Union County Extension Office by February 18, There will be a Junior, Intermediate & Senior Record Book Contest. Ownership & Entry: The exhibitor must have possession of the animal and have it officially entered at the October Sign-Ups between 5 pm - 7 pm. A close-up photograph clearly identifying the steer must be attached to the entry form. One parent/guardian must be a member of the BUYSS October Sign-Ups. Number of Animals: Exhibitors will be limited to one steer. If showing a steer, an exhibitor may show as many breed animals as space permits, not to exceed 100 animals in the barn. (If showing a steer, exhibitors can only sell the steer and one breed. If showing only two breed animals, exhibitors can sell both breed animals.) Exhibitors will be notified by the November meeting if barn capacity has been exceeded. There will be no refunds on entry fees. Add-Ons: Add-ons will be accepted for steer and breed animals at the time of the sale. Across the board add-ons will be announced during the sale. Sale Commissions: 5% will be deducted from total sale of the animal to cover show expenses. Payments made on animals sold at the fair must be made directly to the BUYSS. BARN AND SHOW RULES ALL BARN RULES MUST BE FOLLOWED If general rules are violated, animals may be disqualified and removed from the Show and Sale. Animal Behavior: Exhibitor must have their animal properly trained, so that it may be managed and lead into the show ring by them. A committee will evaluate the animals at the second weighin. Exhibitors that have animals that are evaluated as not manageable will be notified at the conclusion of the weigh-in. These exhibitors and animals will be re-evaluated the following day between 9 AM and 10 AM. If the animal is evaluated as not manageable, the exhibitor will be notified and required to remove the animal from the barn by 12 Noon. If the animal is not showing during respective class judging, it cannot sell. Equipment: Show boxes and essential cleaning equipment are allowed in the exhibit area. NO EQUIPMENT WILL BE ALLOWED TO ENTER BARN DURING THE WEIGH-IN OF 8 AM - 10 AM MARCH 6, Additional rails, only artificial flowers, decorations, etc. are allowed as long as a safe environment is upheld. The BUYSS Barn Committee has a right to address any situation within an exhibitor s area which they feel is unsafe and inappropriate. 50

51 Stall Area: A chart of the stalls in the livestock barns by numbers will be set up and stalls will be assigned to exhibitors at FIRST WEIGH-IN on a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE METHOD based on the order weighed in. Exhibitor area should be presentable and in order by (one)1 hour prior to the opening of the Fair each day. Grooming/Fitting: All clipping, grooming, and fitting performed during the week of the Fair must be done by the exhibitor, a Bradford/Union 4-H Leader, FFA Advisor, or a member of BUYSS. Foreign Substances: Tampering with any animal entered, such as filling with foreign substances, etc. is prohibited. The use of tranquilizers or any substances that alters the animal(s) behavior after arrival at show will be construed as a form of tampering. (No weight enhancement of any kind will be allowed.) Animal exit: No animal is to leave the barn before the Sunday morning following the sale and must exit through the North Barn to be checked out. Estimated time is 8 AM. STEER SHOW AND SALE RULES First Weigh-in: All animals will be brought to a central point for official Weigh-In. Weigh-In will begin at 8 AM, and trailers must be in line by 10 AM. Animals in line early may unload prior to start of Weigh-In, but must be back on trailer by 7 AM. Weight/Grade: Minimum gross weight of no less than 700 lbs. at First Weigh-In. Only animals grading US Select (2.3) or greater by Official Grader may enter the Steer Show and Sale. Weight Gain Contest: All animals entered in Steer Show will be entered in Gain-In Weight Contest. The official weights will be the weights from the First and Second Weigh-Ins. Substitution: Once a steer is entered NO SUBSTITUTION can be made. Show Date: The Wednesday following the Second Weigh-In at 6 PM. Sale Date: The Sale will be on the Saturday following the Second Weigh-In. Awards: Awards start at 5 PM in the Livestock Arena. The Sale starts immediately after Awards. Buyers Letters: Although it is not required, it is important that exhibitors seek a buyer for their steer. Buyers letters are encouraged, and a list of previous buyers can be obtained from 4-H Agents and FFA Advisors. Personal visits are also encouraged. As in all business transactions, exhibitors should send thank you letters to everyone who contributed to your project. Buyers Dinner: A dinner for potential buyers will be on the Saturday of the Sale, from 3-5 PM at the Bradford County Extension Office. 51

52 BREED SHOW AND SALE RULES Body Condition Score: The animal must be properly fitted with enough flesh to be appealing to the eye. The animal must have a Body Condition Score of at least 5 (for lactating cattle) and at least 6 for all other breed animals. Age: FEMALES must not be more than 30 months old and BULLS not more than 24 months old at Show time and Sale. Bulls: All Bulls must have a permanent ring in nose and lead rope attached while in the show ring. Sale Commitment: An animal must be consigned via a signed statement to the Sale no later than second weigh-in if the exhibitor intends to sell their animal. (Only two animals per exhibitor may be sold a steer and one breed animal or two breed animals.) If the animal does not show in respective class judging, it cannot sell. No animal can be declared a No Sale once the sale is complete. Classes: Classes will be made up by weight. All registered cattle must be registered in the exhibitor s name to show in a Registered Class. A copy of the Registration must be shown at the October Sign -Ups. The copy must be registered in the owner s name by First Weigh-In. Any cattle that are not registered in the exhibitor s name will be shown in a commercial class. Final classes to be made by the Show Weigh-In Committee. A breed must have four animals in order to have a Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion and be awarded a trophy. Breed animals are to sell according to how they place in their class the night of the show. Cow/Calf pair can be shown up to 30 months of age of the cow. If the calf is born before October Sign-Ups, and the calf is signed up as individual to be shown in it s own class, then the calf can be shown in both cow/calf and as individual calf. Showmanship Contest There will be a single showmanship contest for steer and breed participants. If showing more than one animal, you will need to choose the best animal to show for this contest. (Exhibitor must show their own animal). The showmanship contest will be held Thursday before the Breed Show at a time to be announced. Youth will be classified as and compete as Juniors, Intermediates or Seniors. The age groups are as follows: Juniors year olds Intermediates year olds Seniors years and up Prizes and/or recognition for the Top 5 Places in each division! Sign-up sheet will be posted on the bulletin boards at the North & South ends of the barn on the day of the Second Weigh-In and will be taken down on Thursday at Noon. A judging team shall consist of three or four 4-H Club or FFA members. Only the scores of the three highest members will be considered in awarding team prizes. 2. Each county may send up to four 4-H teams and each FFA Chapter may enter up to four teams. Individuals are eligible for individual awards only H teams will be divided into Junior, Intermediate, and Senior divisions. FFA will be divided into Middle and Senior divisions. Participants from different divisions may compete as a team; however, they must compete at the division of the oldest individual on that team. 4. Senior 4-H and FFA participants/teams must provide oral reasons and that score will be used in your total scores. All other participants are invited to participate in oral reason; however, your score will not be used for or against your total H members must be eight (8) years of age by September 1, 2016 to participate. 6. Awards: FFA and 4-H are judged separately. 7. Ties will be broken by oral reasons then by questions class. 8. Official placing will be determined during the contest. 9. All teams and individuals must pre-register. Entries and exhibits must be acceptable to the 4-H Youth Division Chairperson the 4-H Extension Agent and the Fair Association. Registration deadline is February 27, Exhibitors must be a bona fide 4-H club member in Bradford or Union County. 3. Entries must be the work of the individual and completed within the last twelve (12) months. Entries should be the result of the 4-H project work. School projects, essays, posters and science projects are not acceptable unless they are directly related to a 4-H project that the 4-H individual is enrolled in during the current 4-H year. 4. All entries must remain until Saturday evening, March 11, 2017, 9:00 pm. There will be no Sunday pick ups. Premium and ribbons will be forfeited if exhibits are removed before that time. The 4-H Agent will be the only people authorized to allow removal of entries from the booth and pay premiums. 5. Ribbons and premiums will be awarded and all decisions of the judges and fair management will be final. 6. All baked goods must be submitted on a heavy piece of cardboard covered with aluminum foil, not to exceed 2 inches beyond the baked product. A typed or neatly handwritten recipe must accompany each baked good. Recipe must be on an index card no larger than 5x7. 7. Entry procedure schedule will be publicized by the 4-H office. 8. The Fair Association, Management and 4-H Staff will not be responsible in case of damage or loss of exhibit. 9. Youth, 5-7 years of age will not be judged in competition. Therefore, they will be awarded participation ribbons and premium monies. 10. A maximum 3 (three) entries will be allowed in each project area. 11. All drawings and photos must be matted on cardboard or other hard surface so they can be displayed. No frames, please. 12. Area 7: Nature and Environment Any educational exhibit relation to insects, conservation, forestry, geology, marine science or general outdoors. Must include description and educational report. Area 8: Creative Arts Any item made from clay, wax, natural materials which may include: aluminum or other metals. Created craft items such as popsicle stick art, paper mache, decorated cards/stationery are also included in this area. The item just be created and decorated by the 4-H member. This area will include poems or stories, but must be creatively displayed to be entered into this area (framing or put on homemade paper or stationary.) Area 9: Wearable Art Any item made by the 4-H member that can be worn. This includes jewelry, shirts, hats, bags or any clothing item. Area 10: Decorated Items These are pre-purchased items that are decorated by the 4-H member. Area 11: Food & Nutrition Any food item that is baked or cooked by the 4-H member. Pies will be judged on taste and attractiveness. 6. Contestants must be pre-entered to participate in this contest. 7. Pre-entry forms are due in to the Bradford County Extension Office by March 1, Forms may be picked up at the Bradford Co. Extension Office. 9. Pies will be checked in Friday, March 3, 2017 from 4:30-5:00 PM. 10. No pies will be returned to the exhibitors. 11. Judges decisions are final.
