Introducing the NEW Tooele County 4 H Achievement Program! Some of you have commented to us about how much you have missed the Achievement program, especially, the scorecard. We hope this new program will be a fun incentive to get more involved in 4 H. The H Achievement Scorecard is included in this newsletter. Use it to keep track of your 4 H activities this year and then turn it in to the of ice on October 1st. We want to encourage and recognize all the effort you put into 4 H each year at our annual achievement night. The recognition levels have new names: white, green and gold. Some of the requirements have changed. The awards will be different, not 4 H bucks, but should be fun to show off! Ultimately, the value of 4 H is in how it helps youth develop into productive, caring adults. We re anxious to hear what you think! Utah State 4 H Unveils New State 4 H Clover Awards Utah State 4 H now has State level achievement awards: the Gold Clover Award, Silver Clover Award and Bronze Clover Award. Youth track their progress toward these achievement awards in Section 3 of their 4 H portfolio using supplemental pages that can be found online in the portfolio section of utah4h.org. The requirements are documented throughout their portfolio. Each award can only be earned once during your tenure in 4 H. The Bronze Clover requires at least 2 years of 4 H participation and at least in the 4th grade. Silver requires a total of 3 years of participation and be at least in the 8th grade. Gold requires a total of 3 years of participation and to be in the 10th grade or older. 6 Tooele County 4-H Achievement Program This is the H Achievement scorecard for the new 4-H Achievement Program. This incentive program encourages 4-H youth to become even more involved in 4-H. Youth must be official 4-H age (8 and in 3rd grade as of October 1, 2017) to be eligible for this program. Keep track of your 4-H activities throughout the year on this individual scorecard. Turn the scorecard in at the 4-H Office on or before October 1 st along with your 4-H Portfolio, if you enter one. Awards are presented at the 4-H Achievement Night in November. There are 3 levels of awards: Gold, Green and White. The number of points needed for each award level increases as 4-H youth grow from Junior (grades 3-5) to Intermediate (grades 6-8) to Senior (grades 9-12). The White award is the easiest to earn for all three age groups. 4-H youth record their points on the scorecard, sign it and turn it in. Every event on the card is worth one point unless indicated differently. Attend county 4-H activities and events, enter projects into the fair, write thank-you notes to sponsors, and attend the 4-H achievement night and most youth will easily earn the White award. Green and Gold present more of a challenge. For Green, youth must either participate in an approved 4-H Contest at the county level or enter a 4-H Portfolio for county judging on October 1 st. To earn Gold, youth must do both, participate in an approved county level contest and enter a complete and updated 4-H Portfolio. Please list the contest(s) that you participated in on top of the scorecard. There are many approved county contests held at various times during the year. Talent Contest (includes instrumental, vocal, piano, dance, variety) General 4-H Demonstrations Favorite Foods/Holiday Favorite Foods Chef Extraordinaire/Healthy Cuisine Judge-a-Rama Table setting Contest Fashion Revue Contest Shop Smart Contest Jr. Livestock Judging Contest Horse Demonstrations Public Speaking/ Impromptu Public Speaking/ Horse Public Speaking Contact the 4-H office for contest rules and when the contest will be held. If a contest isn t listed, please ask at the 4-H office to be sure it will count. The 4-H Portfolio is a record of a youth s experiences in 4-H. Official green dividers and instructions for your portfolio are available at the 4-H office, no charge. We are here to help you with your 4-H Portfolio. Questions, call or come to the office. This is the first year of the new State 4- H Clover Awards. The requirements and more information about these awards can be found on utah4h.org or call the 4-H office and talk to Tamra. These are State recognitions that canl add to your status on job, college and scholarship applications and worth your time.
