Members participate in team building workshops taught by the 4-H State Ambassadors, swim in the wave pool, climb the indoor rock wall, plus many other adventures. Parents may be asked to assist with transportation. This camp is a great place for youth to learn about making friends, being a friend, service, and leadership skills. Leaders.4-Hers Waiting for You! Before a 4-H youth membership can be approved, he/she must have an active leader in the online system. Leaders will be able to track their club membership online by requesting login authorization. As you enter your information online, you will need to answer yes to the question, Are you a volunteer? Answering yes will allow you to complete both pages of the volunteer screening form which is required for you to be a 4-H leader. You will also need to link yourself to your club which is already in the database. If you cannot find your club or if you want to change the name of the club, you will need to call the USU Extension Office. The same projects that your club members add to their record need to be in your record as well. You can add and delete projects to keep your 4-H activity up-to-date. 4-H members may enter up to 25 exhibits in the 4-H indoor exhibit area at the fair. This number does not include exhibits in the crops, livestock, open class art, photography, or home arts departments. You may complete as many projects as you like during the year, and choose your very best projects to enter in the fair. In order to enter your exhibits at the county fair, you must be registered in 4-H by July 1, 2018.

5 Utah Junior Turkey Show The Utah Junior Turkey Show for 4-H and FFA members will be held in Box Elder County during the month of November. Each exhibitor will be allowed to purchase 20 poults. The poults will cost $3.50 each and the registration forms and money are due by April 2. Youth are required to turn in a 4-H portfolio or 4-H poultry record book or FFA entrepreneurship pages to be reviewed by the county agent/staff or advisor with their turkey show form in November in order to participate in the show. However, the book does not have to be judged. Record keeping is the education component of this project. Only Grade A turkeys will be sold at the state auction. Order form and show rules and be found at: Let s Get Growing Contest 2018 Declaring Affiliation with 4-H or FFA It is important that 4-H and FFA members declare which program they plan to affiliate with during the current year. When your livestock project is tagged, you will be asked to declare yourself either in 4-H or the FFA program for that project. As a result, if you declare your project as an FFA project, then you will need to complete an FFA book. Likewise, if you declare yourself as a 4-H member, you will need to complete a 4-H record book or 4H portfolio. It is not permissible to complete a 4-H and FFA record book for the same project. This does not mean, however, that 4-H and FFA members can t participate in both 4-H and FFA projects during the same year..they just can t be the SAME PROJECT, so an FFA member may choose to have a steer project and also be a 4-H member doing a breeding lamb project. Youth are allowed to show and sell only one market animal. Every year the USU Extension Office in conjunction with the Crops Department at the Box Elder County Fair sponsors a Let s Get Growing Contest for Box Elder County 4-H youth. Any 4-H youth who is a registered 4 -H member can participate in the contest. The purpose of the contest is to promote an interest in gardening for youth and provide the opportunity to grow a plant not typically grown in the home garden in our area. Plants/ seeds will be provided at no charge to 4-H participants the first week of May. 4-H youth are encouraged to bring the project to the Fair in August where they will be judged and put on display for everyone to see. More information about the classes can be found in the Box Elder County Fair crops entry form in August. To guarantee that you will receive plants/seeds, please Mike Pace at mike.pace@usu.edu or text him at with the names, ages and addresses of 4-H youth who are interested in participating in this fun learning contest.

Why Should We Do 4-H Contests? See more pictures on our Facebook page USU Extension Box Elder County 4-H 4-H contests Are a great way to help 4-Hers use what they ve learned and to learn more about their 4-H project. Help 4-Hers learn to organize information. Provide an opportunity to develop public speaking skills. Pay premium money at the county fair. Open the doors to bigger opportunities like State 4-H Contests, Western Round-Up, etc. when 4-Hers are in the 9 th -12 th grades. Contact Ann to learn more.

9 Wednesday Weaving Back row: Cash Christensen Ethan Barton Seth Barton Kyler Harris Talmage Harris Ann Henderson, FCS Agent Front row: Violet Lindgren Sydney Stacey Mikeal Jensen Quincy Francis These Wednesday Weavers have made some great projects including: placemats, bookmarks, felt baskets, and colorful, woven fish. They are already preparing projects to enter in the Box Elder County Fair! Utah 4-H State Ambassador Candidates Emily Smith Frank Pilarczyk Each one of our four candidates is more than qualified to serve as a Utah 4-H State Ambassador. As the 4-H Program Coordinator I have been able to meet with these youth through this process, and it has been so rewarding as I watch them grow into leaders, teachers, and community servants. Honestly, my involvement has been minimal. They each created and executed their projects on their own, in addition to supporting their fellow candidates in the process. I can t help but imagine the kind of adults they are going to be. I feel like I'm in the midst of some great people-- and they're only in high school. The 4-H community in Box Elder County has really been elevated from their projects. We've seen new faces and had new 4-H members because of our ambassador candidates and their projects. When youth teach youth, something really neat happens. The content of the message resides a little deeper, and it turns leadership and 4-H involvement into something that our younger 4-H members want to aspire to. Dallen Borg Elizabeth Wilkinson
