3 Meg Edler I am Meg Edler, the daughter of Doug and Laura Edler. My family and I operate Edler Simmentals near Gladbrook, Iowa. I am attending Iowa State University this fall and majoring in Animal Science. I plan on being a part of many organizations like the Block and Bridle while in Ames. I also plan on staying active in the junior association and the Iowa Simmental Association. Through the Iowa Junior Simmental Association I have been an active member for many years participating in many state, regional, and national Simmental events. As my time on the junior board, I have enjoyed helping to plan activities and being able to meet so many great individuals in the beef industry, especially our Simmental breeders. I was very honored to receive the Silver Merit Award from the American Simmental Association this July. I would like to thank everyone in the Iowa association for being so supportive to our junior members and myself. Without the senior board and junior advisors support our junior association would not be where it is today. IJSA Pages Cont. IJSA Silver Merit Award Recipients Kiley Elder Kiley Elder is the daughter of Bart and Dianna Elder of Ackworth. She has been an IJSA and AJSA member for many years. She has participated in numerous IJSA Field Days, AJSA National Classics, and IJBBA shows. She is currently a Freshman at Blackhawk East College in Kewanee, Illinois. Janel Wenndt I am Jenel Wenndt, the daughter of Jeff and Deb Wenndt. I attended the University of Lincoln last fall and have since transferred to Kirkwood Community College and the University of Iowa there I hope to obtain a Bachelor of Business Administration degree my goal is to become a CPA. While attending the UNL, I was involved with the Honors Program, National Society of Leadership Sigma Alpha Pi, Scarlett Guard, and the Legends Program. I also lived in the Engineering Learning Community. I have been involved in the IJSA for 3 years I became involved with the IJSA because of 4H, my only regret was not owning a Simmental sooner. This cattle organization has given me so many opportunities and the ability to gain more knowledge in the cattle industry. I was able to attend the Regional event in Hutchinson, KS but was unable to attend this year s Regional in MN because of summer classes. I have traveled with my Simmental s to numerous shows. Next year will be my final year in the Jr. Assn., and I am looking forward to being part of the National in Des Moines! My future contains many possibilities, I want to continue to help promote and grow the Simmental breed in our State. While pursuing higher education, obtaining a career, I hope to become more involved in the cattle industry. I am hoping to purchase acreage in near future and background some cattle. While obtaining my education I hope to become more of an advocate to helping and mentoring youth who want to become more involved in the cattle industry as well. Summit Leadership Conference By Kylie Peterson & Paige Reck Seven IJSA members had the opportunity to travel to Bozeman, MT for the 2015 AJSA Summit! Members included Cade Bracker, Grace Greiman, Kiersten Jass, Landon Siek, Maddy Udell and the two of us. During our stay in the Big Sky State we were a part of history as we were one of the last groups to tour the current ASA headquarters and one of the first groups to step foot on the construction site of the new headquarters. Throughout the rest of our week we heard from speakers on the topic of Beef Advocacy related to our theme Speak Out Say It Loud. We visited Yellowstone National Park, ORIgen Genetics, Billings Livestock Commission, Hudson Pines/Hayes Ranch, and Montana State University. We think that we speak for the group when we say that the friendships and memories made and the knowledge and experience gained will last a lifetime! As two of the oldest members in attendance we were able to observe the conference from a different view point and we would encourage the IJSA membership to attend the next Summit in The Iowa junior members really stood out amongst the other states and it makes us very excited for the future of the Iowa Simmental Association!

Respectfully Submitted, Sherrie Moore - ISA Secretary/Treasurer Notes from the ISA President - Tammy Heaton Simmental Enthusiasts, History has been made! If you haven t heard the Simmental Open Show at the Iowa State Fair will go down in history as the largest Simmental haltered show in the US. I want to send out a very special thank you to Dean Drummond and his family for spending countless hours in preparation for this event. They did a fantastic job and were able to get everyone in to one barn, cattle checked in, and the show completed. Their dedication and willingness to do what is necessary to pull this event off was greatly appreciated. Also, want to send out a thank you to the VandenBerg family for the meal preparation, all of the volunteers that worked in the holding area & ring (won t list names as I don t want to forget anyone but you know who you are), and our judge Steve Reimer for evaluating all of the cattle. You all made this event historic and we appreciate all of you. As one Simmental event ends another one begins. Throughout the next few months we will be focusing on the 2016 Simmental National Classic that will be in Des Moines, July 9th 15th. As you can imagine if the Iowa State Fair was historic we can only assume that the Classic will follow in the same footsteps. With that said there is much to be organized and money that needs to be raised to ensure that we are prepared. Please be sure to read through the National documents within this newsletter on how you can purchase tickets for the junior s fundraiser (Herd in the Tank) or make donations. If you aren t able to donate, but are willing to volunteer your time please use the listed on the donation letter to let us know. I hope you all have a great fall sale season and look forward to seeing you at the Iowa Beef Expo in February if not before. Thanks, Tammy Raffle Ticket Goal = 600 = $60,000 Currently at $6500 Current ISA Checking Account Balance = $39,042.80
