Notes from the ISA President - Tammy Heaton Simmental Enthusiasts, Summer is well underway and it won t be long until we are all together at the state fair enjoying some great conversations and cattle. Before we move forward with state fair thoughts I wanted to send a few shout outs to those individuals that made the Iowa Simmental Field Day another huge success. It takes a number of people to pull activities such as these off and unfortunately we don t always take the time to thank them for their contributions. The Iowa Simmental Association Junior Advisors, Marshall Ruble, judges Mark & Deb Core, Senior Board members and a few others that volunteered their time to help (you know who you are) with meals, meeting prep, junior training activities, lining up cattle for the show, ensuring stalls were bedded, barn was ready, and all of the other activities that it takes to keep things working smoothly THANK YOU! Your contributions do not go unnoticed and we truly appreciate what you do for our junior program. What happens next! As I mentioned it won t be long before we are all at the state fair, but in the interim we do still have a few things going on. As I write this note we have kids headed to Austin, MN for the North Central Regional and then in July a group will also be headed to Texas for the National Classic. Iowa will have great representation at these activities and I am certain they will represent our state successfully. We have also just kicked off our 2016 National Classic Fundraising with one of the major fundraisers being the raffle for a Herd In the Tank. A number of folks have donated embryos and semen already and many more donations are rolling in. This fundraiser will pay for a significant amount of our expenses so please if you are interested in buying a ticket contact someone from the junior and/or senior board for your ticket. The winning ticket will be drawn at the 2016 Iowa Summer Field Day. For an update list of donations please refer to the Iowa Simmental Website. Also, if you, your organization, sale management, or business is interested in being contributors to the 2016 Junior Classic in Des Moines please contact me. Volunteers will also be needed to help with this event as well so please let me know if you are available to help out too. Again thank you for all that you do to support the Simmental Breed in Iowa and across the country. See you all at the upcoming activities! Sincerely, Tammy Heaton Long-time ISA member Raymond Ransom owner of Ran-Sim Simmentals, age 71, died on Sunday, June 14, 2015, on his farm near Decorah, from a tractor accident.
