1 IOWA JUNIOR HEREFORD SHOW June 12 th - 14 th,2015 Hardin County Fairgrounds, Eldora, IA (IJBBA Sanctioned Show-Rules will be enforced) SHOW RULES AND REGULATIONS Horned and Polled Animals 1. Exhibitor must be seven years old and not yet 22 years by January 1, The exhibitor must be a member of the Iowa Junior Hereford Association (IJHA) by May 15th and the National Junior Hereford Association (NJHA). At the April 2007 IJHA Board of Director meeting, the directors decided our show would ONLY be for juniors that have residence in Iowa. 2. All animals must be registered with the American Hereford Association (AHA) at Kansas City, Missouri. 3. Each entry must be owned by the junior exhibitor(s) and in his/her recorded ownership by May 15th. Entries may be co-owned by siblings, provided each is an individual IJHA and NJHA member. 4. Polled or scurred animals are eligible to show in the polled show. Horned or de-horned animals are eligible to show in the horned show. 5. Entry fees are $30.00 per head (Bedding included). No straw allowed! (Also see Rule # 7) Mail entries to Tim and Melinda Anderlik, 3125 McGuire Bend Road, Dayton, IA When entering your animal it if is a Hereford (horned) use the COLOR entry form and Polled Hereford s use the WHITE entry form. This is very important so your animals will be entered in the right division. Please do NOT use the entry form that was enclosed in the packet from AHA, as we want all the questions answered on the bottom of our form. DO NOT MAIL OUR ENTRY FORMS TO AHA!) 6. Entry deadline is postmarked no later then May 15, Check or money order, ALONG WITH A COPY OF PEDIGREE/STEER CERTIFICATE MUST BE ENCLOSED WITH ENTRY FORM OR IT WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO SHOW. No entries with pending listed as the registration number will be accepted. NO LATE ENTRIES! Entry fee is non- refundable. 7. All entries must be in place by 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 13th. Cattle may arrive Friday after noon, June 12th. All cattle MUST be doubled tied. Failure to obey the above rules-premiums WILL BE FORFEITED. Stalls will NOT be assigned-- First come, first serve. In case of emergency, call Tim or Melinda Anderlik at or Original registration certificates must be presented at check-in. (No copies or fax copies will be accepted!) All animals will have tattoos checked. Tattoos that are missing, illegible, altered, incorrect and/or in anyway disagree with the official AHA records will be justifiable cause for disqualification of entry.

2 9. Entries must meet Iowa health regulations and all animals must have an official health certificate. Contact you local veterinarian to be sure health papers meet state requirements. 10. Exhibitors must show their own animals unless he/she has two animals in the same class or has approval from the Iowa Junior Herford Advisors before the show. New for 2015: All substitute showmen MUST be members of the IJHA before May 15, We will be using the same show shirts as last year. If you need a new one please include your $10.00 with your entry form. Also include the size premiums will be paid as follows: First $40.00; Second $30.00; Third $20.00; Fourth $10.00; Fifth and remaining places $5.00. The Polled and Horned Grand Champion Heifer, Bred and Owned Heifer, Cow/Calf, Bull and Steer and AI Bull and AI Heifer will receive $ cash award. The Reserve Champion will receive a cash award of $ These premiums will be paid by the Iowa Junior Hereford Association Treasurer and mailed to each exhibitor after the show. 13. All persons making entries in the show shall agree to abide by all the rules and regulations as outlined and will not hold the Iowa Junior Hereford Association, organizers or members of the Hardin County Fair Association responsible for accident, loss or injury to any person, animal or article. 14. The show will start at 9:00 A.M. on Sunday, June 14th, Show order is Polled Cow/Calf, Horned Cow/Calf, Polled Bulls, Heifers, Bred & Owned Heifers, AI Bulls, AI Heifers, Steers, and then proceed with the Horned Show in the same order as the Polled Show. Showmanship will be held at the conclusion of the show. Any exhibitor taking cattle home early will forfeit their premiums. ALSO ALL STALLS ARE TO BE CLEANED OF MANURE AND TRASH AND PUT IN PROPER DUMPSTER. 15. If there are any questions, the Junior National Rules will be followed and enforced. HEIFER RULES 1. Heifers born after and all of 2014 and offspring of cow/calf, if so desired. COW-CALF RULES 1. Cows born prior to September 1, No Maximum age for cows. Must be owned by the junior member and recorded ownership by May 15, Calf must be her natural calf, no older than nine months of age as of the day of the show, and registered with the AHA by May 15, Entry fee for the pair is $ Bull and Heifer calves on cow/calf pairs are eligible to show in individual classes. They must be entered individually and pay the additional fee of $30.00.

3 BRED-AND-OWNED HEIFER RULES 1. For eligibility in the bred-and-owned divisions, the exhibitor(s) must have owned the entry s dam time of conception and must be listed as the breeder on the registration certificate. 2. Bred-and-owned heifers calved after August 31, 2013 are eligible. Bred-and-owned heifers will show after the Grand and Reserve Heifers are chosen. Please mark the entry form if your calf is bred-and-owned. There is NO ENTRY FEE for the bred-and-owned class, but a $ cash award will be given to the Champion and $50.00 to the Reserve Bred-and-Owned heifer. BRED-AND-OWNED BULL RULES 1. Bred-and-owned bulls calved after August 31, 2013 are eligible. 2. Entry fee is $30.00 (includes bedding) 3. All bulls calved before January 1, 2015 must be shown with a nose lead. 4. Bulls must have been bred by the junior member, but may be owned jointly with an adult/farm provided that the junior is the sole breeder, and is officially recorded as current owner of that bull. STEER RULES 1. Entries are open to Hereford Steers sired by a registered Hereford Bull and whose dam is registered with AHA or is a purebred commercial Hereford. A steer certificate is required. 2. Steer classes will be determined after the weigh in. 3. All Steers will be shown together. 4. Steers must show characteristics typical of straight-bred Hereford cattle. All steers will be subject to inspection by a committee and required to meet minimum standards for type, quality and confirmation. No appeals. SHOWMANSHIP CLASSES 1. There will be four (4) showmanship classes Peewee- 7 thru 9 years of age as of January 1, 2015 Junior 10 thru 13 years of age as of January 1, 2015 Intermediate 14 thru 17 years of age as of January 1, 2015 Senior 18 thru 22 years of age as of January 1, Peewees must show their own animal or one owned by immediate family members. 3. All other members do not have to show their own animal, but the animal exhibited in the Showmanship contest has to be entered in the Iowa Junior Hereford Show. 4. There is NO FEE to participate in showmanship and no premiums will be paid. Awards will be presented to the winner of each division. 5. Bulls cannot be shown in any showmanship classes. AI BULLS & HEIFERS We will again be having the AI class and will follow the same rules as the AI class at Jr. National. The semen must have been a qualifying semen that was gotten through the Jr. AI program from AHA. Both Polled and Horned animals will show together in this class. If you have any questions concerning this class please contact the advisors. PLEASE INDICATE ON YOUR ENTRY FROM IF THE CALF IS AN AI CALF THAT QUALIFIES FOR THIS CLASS. OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION

4 SPEECH CONTEST is scheduled for Saturday, June 13th at 3:30 P.M. (SHARP). The contest is open to all IJHA/NJHA members between the ages of seven and 22. There are four divisions in which to compete in-peewee ages 7-9, Junior 10-13, Intemediate and senior Awards will be presented to winners of each division. Please mark on the bottom of the entry if you plan to give a speech. This is an excellent opportunity for all juniors to practice their speaking and leadership skills. The objective of the contest is to develop character and leadership and to promote interest in the beef industry. To qualify for national, your speech MUST be given at the Iowa Junior Hereford Show and 2011 state dues must be paid. For a complete list of rules and topics visit the national junior s web site, PHOTO CONTEST is scheduled for Saturday, June 13 th. The contest is open to all JHA/NJHA members between the ages of seven and 22. There are four divisions in which to compete in-peewee ages 7-9, Junior 10-13, Intermediate and senior Awards will be presented to winners of each division. The contest is open to all JHA/NJHA members between the ages of seven and 22. There are four divisions in which to compete in-peewee ages 7-9, Junior 10-13, Intermediate and senior Awards will be presented to winners of each division. For a complete list of rules and topics visit the national junior s web site JUNIOR HEREFORD MEETING will follow the speech contest. We will be electing officers and directors dues MUST BE paid for you to vote at this meeting! (See the list of paid members on next page.) If you are interested in running for board please fill out the application included in packet. We will discuss the Iowa basket to be taken to the Junior National for the silent auction. If you want to donate to this fund-raiser, please bring your items on June 12 th & 14th. More information about the basket will be printed in the Iowa Hereford Breeders Newsletter in May. Contact the advisors if you have an item you wish to donate to this. JUNIOR NATIONAL PACKETS: If you have NOT received the Junior National Packet from AHA, please call and request it. In order to get a packet, you must have 2015 National dues paid. May 1st is the early entry deadline and all animals must be entered by June 1st. Online entry site is under the Juniors tab on the AHA website.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT EVERYONE WHO IS GOING TO Grand Island ATTEND. The theme is Hereford Nation. Our queen will be deciding on our color halters and curtains. We will wear our gray shirts from preview. Please complete the attached form ONLY if you are going to participate at the Junior National. It is very important you enclose a copy of the pedigree of the animal(s) that you are planning to show at Kansas City. We are going to have pre-printed stall cards and need all of this information by June 1st.
