1 GLENWOOD PARK LIVESTOCK EXPOSITION Saturday, April 14, 2018 Loudoun County 4-H Fairgrounds General Show Regulations Schedule of Events Friday, April 13 th After 5:00 p.m.-- Animals may be checked- in Saturday, April 14 th 8:00 a.m. -- All beef entries must be on the grounds and checked- in 8:15 a.m. -- Beef Exhibitor s Meeting in the Beef show pavilion 9:00 a.m. -- All sheep entries must be on the grounds and checked- in 9:00 a.m. -- Beef Showmanship staggered start * 9:30 a.m. -- Sheep Exhibitor meeting in the Sheep show ring 10:00 a.m. -- Sheep Showmanship immediately followed by confirmation show *Beef conformation shows to follow showmanship classes after a ½ hour break Contestants 1. Each contestant must be a 4-H or FFA member enrolled in a 4-H club or FFA chapter by January 1, Exhibitors must have turned nine years of age by September 30, Participation terminates on December 31 of the year of their nineteenth birthday. 2. All exhibitors must wear their exhibitor s number, clearly visible, while in the show ring. Number cards will be provided. 3. Each county is asked to designate an adult county contact for each in the sheep and beef area. This coordinator will work with the appropriate barn manager to be responsible for exhibitors, stall assignments, stall deposits, overnight supervision, and cleanup. 4. All exhibitors must participate in one sheep showmanship class or one beef showmanship class. You may participate in both. 5. A Beef exhibitors meeting will be held at 8:15 Saturday morning in show pavilion. A Sheep exhibitors meeting will be held at 9:30 Saturday morning in the sheep show ring. 6. Exhibitors showing both beef and sheep should make every effort to fit and show their own animals realizing that both shows are run concurrently. It is strongly encouraged that contestants only enter what they anticipate they themselves can fit and show. However, if an exhibitor should have both beef and sheep they must indicate on the entry form which species they will be participating in for showmanship. 7. The Glenwood Show is open to exhibitors from: Albemarle, Caroline, Clarke, Culpeper, Essex, Fairfax, Fauquier, Fluvanna, Frederick, Greene, Hanover, King George, Lancaster, Loudoun, Louisa, Madison, Northumberland, Orange, Page, Prince William, Rappahannock, Richmond, Shenandoah, Spotsylvania, Stafford, Warren, and Westmoreland. 1
2 Code of Conduct In order to assure safe and productive 4-H educational programs and activities, the following is adopted as the Glenwood Park Livestock Show s Code of Conduct. Each 4-H/ FFA member is to take a full and active interest in all parts of the planned program. The applicable code will be enforced in a firm, fair, and equitable manner. All 4-H sponsored programs and activities in which minors are involved will be supervised by responsible adult(s). Teens may be placed in a supervisory role under the direct leadership of the responsible adult. ALL ADULTS SHOULD ABIDE BY THE INTENT OF THIS CODE. This code of conduct serves as a notice of behavior expectations for all program participants. The following types of behavior will not be tolerated: DELIBERATE DESTRUCTION OF FACILITIES OR EQUIPMENT. POSSESSION OR USE OF FIREWORKS OR FIREARMS. POSSESSION OR USE OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES OR ILLEGAL DRUGS. POSSESSION OR USE OF ANY TOBACCO PRODUCTS BY YOUTH UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE. VISITATION BY PARTICIPANTS IN SLEEPING ROOMS IF PARTICIPANTS ARE OF THE OPPOSITE SEX. ANY SEXUAL OR PORNOGRAPHIC ACTIVITIES. CURFEW VIOLATIONS AS SPECIFIED. FAILURE TO DRESS AS SPECIFIED BY THE PROGRAM. THEFT OF ANY PROPERTY. ABUSIVE LANGUAGE. FAILURE TO FOLLOW ADDITIONAL REGULATIONS OF ANY SPECIFIC PROGRAM. Any behavior not specifically covered above but deemed a serious breach of conduct, will be reviewed by the show chairmen. Disciplinary action will result from any infraction of the above provisions and any one or more of the following actions may be taken depending on the severity of the infraction as determined by the show managers: 1) Legal action. 2) Suspension of 4-H privileges. 3) Extension Agent/FFA Advisor will be notified. 4) Restitution. 5) Apology to those involved. 6) Reprimand. Entries 2
3 1. All beef entries and fees must be postmarked by February 17, 2018 to Skyler Hitt, Mt Pony Rd, Culpeper, VA and all sheep entries and fees must be postmarked by March 10, 2018 to Dan Virts Loyalty Rd, Leesburg, VA Any entry postmarked beyond entry due date will be charged a late fee. No beef entries will be accepted if postmarked in excess of one week past entry due date. Sheep entries will be accepted up until the day of the show at double the normal fee. Entry fees are not refundable and must accompany the entry form. Checks should be made payable to GLENWOOD PARK LIVESTOCK SHOW. Any returned check fees, bank fees, or other collection fees will be the responsibility of the exhibitor. If your entry fees are not included with entry and received prior to entry deadline they are considered late. 2. A completed, signed Health History Report for 4-H Members must accompany entry form. 3. No adding entries, substituting, or switching of classes will be permitted unless a mistake is made in printing the catalog. Mistakes in printing will be checked with the entry form. 4. All entries must be the property of the 4-H or FFA member making the exhibit. From time of purchase, owner must have personally managed; cared for, and fed any animal he or she enters (except in case of illness and not covering a total period of more than 30 days). Regularly enrolled students not residing at home are not eligible to participate in this show. Entries are accepted in good faith that feeding, management, and care of animals have been conducted as a part of a 4-H or FFA project by the exhibitor. 5. All beef entries should be on the grounds by 8 a.m. and all sheep entries should be on the grounds by 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, Apri1 14, No entries allowed on the grounds before 12:00 noon on Friday, April 13, All exhibitors are in charge of livestock and shall care for, guard, protect, and preserve the same. The Loudoun Fair and Associates, Inc. and the Glenwood Park Livestock Show will not be responsible for any loss or damage. 6. If the animal gets away from the exhibitor three times it will be dismissed from the class. Animals shall be under the control of exhibitors at all times without the aid of tranquilizers or other drugs. Dangerous or drugged animals will be disqualified, and removed from show area. If it is determined that any animal poses a threat, the Show Committee reserves the right to disqualify the animal and remove it from the show areas. The safety of all exhibitors and animals is the primary concern. 7. All animals exhibited must be in good physical health. Any animal found with a disease that could be passed on to other animals will have to be removed immediately from the grounds. Beef and sheep show chair will check health of animals. A veterinarian will make the final decision if necessary. 8. Any animal shown in purebred breeding classes must have registration papers present on the day of the show. Papers will be checked prior to showing. A screening committee will verify the suitability of entries in any class. 9. All written complaints or suggestions should be directed to appropriate committee chair by close of show. If complaint can not be resolved a fifty-dollar deposit will be required for grievance committee review. Grievance committee shall consist of Glenwood chair, Glenwood co-chair and committee chair. All valid complaints will receive fifty-dollar deposit returned in full. Any complaints deemed invalid shall forfeit the fifty-dollar deposit. 10. Beef/Sheep Committee Chairmen have the right to add, delete, or combine classes. Committee Chairmen also reserve the right to verify the suitability of entries in any class. 3
4 Grounds 1. Vehicle operators will observe designated parking areas and follow instructions of the Ground Committee. Failure to do so may result in expulsion from grounds. 2. Only exhibitors, parents and/or legal guardians of exhibitors and volunteer leaders may stay overnight on the show grounds at their own risk. Others must leave no later than 10:30 p.m. Any exceptions must be approved by the Show Chairmen. 3. Any exhibitor staying overnight must be accompanied by parent, legal guardian, or club leader. 4. Stall assignments will be done by show management. No tack shall be set up prior to Thursday, April 12, A food stand selling items for both breakfast and lunch will be available on the grounds on Saturday until 1 p.m. or food is gone. 6. Exhibitors should bring only the minimum bedding needed. All bedding must be cleaned up after the show, including bedding at the tie out area, and taken to a designated disposal area. Persons not completing to satisfaction of barn chair will forfeit exhibitor/stall deposits and the right to exhibit at the 2019 Glenwood Show. Deposits will be returned upon check-out. 7. The Loudoun Fair and Associates and Glenwood Park Livestock Show will not be responsible for damage to or loss of personal property. 8. No dogs allowed on grounds. Classes 1. The order of showing and judging will be: beef showmanship at 9:00 a.m. staggered start time, and sheep showmanship at 10:00 a.m., or at the discretion of the show committee. In the case of rain, beef showmanship order will be seniors, intermediates, juniors, and novices. Beef confirmation classes will begin 30 minutes after conclusion of all beef showmanship classes. 2. Premium money, ribbons, and awards will be given the day of the show. 3. When classes are divided, money and ribbons will be awarded and the winners are eligible to come back in the championship class. It will be the decision of the beef/sheep committee chairmen as to when classes are to be broken. 4. If only one animal is in a class, first place ribbons and second place money will be awarded. 1. Read General Show Regulations. BEEF SHOW RULES 2. All heifer entries, except summer yearlings and senior heifer calves, must be owned and in possession of the exhibitor by January 1, 2018, and carried as an official 4-H or FFA project certified by an Extension Agent or FFA advisor. 4

ALL STEERS MUST BE OWNED AND IN POSSESSION OF THE EXHIBITOR IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE RULES OF THE EXHIBITORS HOME COUNTY AND CARRIED AS AN OFFICIAL 4-H OR FFA PROJECT CERTIFIED BY AN EXTENSION AGENT OR FFA ADVISOR. 4. An entry fee of $15 per entry/head must accompany the entry form. An additional entry fee of $5 will be collected on each bred and owned entry. Entries must be postmarked (or hand delivered) by February 17, 2018 to Skyler Hitt. Late entries will be accepted until February 24, 2018 (delivered or postmarked) with a non-refundable entry fee of $30 per head. No entries will be accepted if postmarked (or delivered) after February 24, A $10 per exhibitor deposit will be required, paid at check-in, prior to stall assignments. Deposits will be returned after barn and tie out areas are cleaned-up at the conclusion of the show. Please do not mail with entry. If you do not clean up your stall area, you will not be allowed to show in the 2019 Glenwood Show. 6. All beef animals must be fitted in or around the barns to be determined at check-in by the show committee. Only the exhibitor and immediate family members (i.e. father, mother, grandparents, brother, or sister) or another 4-H/FFA member enrolled in a 4-H/FFA program meeting all previous show age requirements, may help in fitting the animal. 7. All beef entries must be on time for their respective class. Once the entries in the exhibitor s respective class have begun walking into the profile view, the exhibitor is too late and ineligible to compete. 8. No animal may be brought to the show unless entered and it must be shown in the appropriate class. Beef Showmanship 1. Every beef exhibitor must show in either a beef or a sheep showmanship class. Anyone not participating will not be permitted to show in the conformation classes. 2. Animals must be shown clean and dry. Exhibitors will be judged solely on showmanship. 3. Beef Showmanship classes are Junior Novice, Senior Novice, Junior, Intermediate and Senior. Age on show date is based on the 4-H Age policy. Feeder & Market Beef Animals 1. Feeder and market steers will be divided into: (1) Angus, (2) Hereford, (3) Shorthorn, (4) Simmental, (5) Registered Appendix, (6) All Other Purebreds, and (7) Crossbreds. Four or more steers of a breed exhibited by two or more exhibitors will constitute a breed division. 2. NEW! Feeder and Market heifers are animals intended to be shown as a market/terminal project. They will not be shown as breeding animals. Classes will be broken by beef committee. 3. All Feeder/Market steers/heifers must be entered on the Beef Steer, Commercial Heifer, and Cow/Calf Pair Entry Form. A copy of the registration papers must be included with the entry forms. Registration papers are required the day of the show and will be checked by the Barn Management. 5
6 4. Feeder steers are defined as those steers intended for show and sale in the summer and fall of 2017 and classes for each breed will be determined by birth date: Early Junior Yearling: 1/1/17 2/28/17 Late Junior Yearling: 3/1/17 4/30/17 Summer Yearling: 5/1/17 & later 5. Market steers/heifers will be divided by age the day of the show by the beef committee and are defined as those animals intended for sale in the spring of 2018 and which were born after September 1, A maximum of two animals may be entered per class per exhibitor. Purebred/ Registered Appendix Heifers 1. Purebred and registered appendix heifers will be divided into different breed classes. Four or more heifers exhibited by two or more exhibitors will constitute a breed division. There is no limit on the number of heifers that can be shown in each breed, so long as the exhibitor does not enter a total of more than two animals per class. 2. Purebred and registered appendix heifers must be entered on the Junior Purebred Heifer Project entry blank. A copy of the registration papers must be included with the entry forms. Registration papers are required the day of the show and will be checked by the Barn Management. 3. Tattoos must be legible and match registration papers. If not, the heifer must be shown in commercial class. 4. The date of sale as shown on the registration certificate will be the date used to determine Eligibility of purchased heifers. 5. All heifers must be the property of, in the care of, and registered in the sole name of the exhibitor only, by the following dates according to age and show classification: Senior Yearling Heifers: January 1 Early Junior Yearling Heifers: January 1 Late Junior Yearling Heifers: January 1 Summer Yearling Heifers: March 1 Senior Heifer Calves: April 1 6. There will be five classes for each breed: Senior Yearling Heifers: calved 9/1/16 12/31/16 Early Junior Yearling Heifers: calved 1/1/17 2/28/17 Late Junior Yearling Heifers: calved 3/1/17 4/30/17 Summer Yearling Heifers: calved 5/1/17 8/31/17 Senior Heifer Calves: calved 9/1/17-12/31/17 6
7 Commercial Heifers 1. Commercial heifer class will be judged the same as purebred heifers and under the same ownership dates and must be calved on or after September 1, A maximum of two heifers per class may be entered by each exhibitor. Bred & Owned Classes 1. One bred and owned class each will be held for purebred and commercial heifers, feeder steers/heifers, and market steers/heifers at the conclusion of each of those divisions. All breeds will be shown together. There will be an additional $5 entry fee for this class. 2. To be eligible, an animal must be out of a dam solely owned by the exhibitor at the time of breeding. 3. To enter this class, exhibitor must indicate this on the entry form at the time of entry. Failure to indicate on the entry form will make you ineligible to enter this class the day of the show. There will be an additional $5 entry fee. 4. Premium money will be awarded. Cow/Calf Classes 1. Joint classes will be held for commercial and registered cow/calf pairs. All calves must be under 8 months of age. 2. Please use the beef steer and commercial heifer entry form. 3. Ribbons and money will be awarded. 4. Cow/calf is not eligible for grand champion female of the show. Group Classes County Group of 3 Heifers: 1. Must be from at least 2 different exhibitors. 2. A county may have more than one group. 3. Will be held after selection of Grand Champion Heifer County Group of 5 Steers 1. Must be from at least 3 different exhibitors. 2. A county may have more than one group. 3. 10 SHEEP SHOW RULES 1. See General Show regulations. 2. Entry must be the property of and in the possession of the exhibitor by January 1, 2018, for yearling and aged sheep, and by 60 days before the day of show for breeding lambs, if purchased, and 30 days for feeder and market lambs. It must be carried as an official 4-H or FFA project, certified by an Extension Agent or FFA advisor. 3. NEW: Non ownership classes available to 4H or FFA member who participate in their respective club as a non-owner caregiver of the animal. Exhibitor is certifying they have met all non-ownership requirements of their respective club. Exhibitors may enter in showmanship and breeding sheep classes only. 4. An entry fee of $10 per animal must accompany the entry form. Animals entered into bred and owned classes, must add an additional $3 per animal. Entries must be postmarked by March 10, 2018, to Dan Virts. Late entries will be accepted until the date of the show (April 14), with an entry fee of $20 per head, and additional $6 per bred and owned animal entered into a bred and owned class. 5. All sheep, except wool breeds, will be slick shorn and must be shorn prior to Saturday, April 14, 2018, and all sheep must be shown clean and well groomed. 6. Each class entry must be shown by the exhibitor only, with the exception of those with disabilities or injury. When more than one entry is in a class, assistance must be provided by another 4-H or FFA member. 7. A $10, per exhibitor, stall deposit will be required, paid at check-in, prior to stall assignment. Deposits will be returned after pens are cleaned out at the conclusion of the show. If you do not clean up your stall area to the satisfaction of the show chair you will not be allowed to show in the 2019 Glenwood Show. Please do not mail in with entry. 8. Penning will be done at the discretion of the sheep show committee. 9. Sheep may only be shown in one division (i.e., feeder/market, purebred, commercial, or wool). 10. ANY ANIMAL SHOWN IN SHOWMANSHIP MUST ALSO BE SHOWN IN A MARKET OR BREEDING CLASS Division 1 Sheep Showmanship 1. All sheep exhibitors must enter the sheep or beef showmanship classes. Anyone not participating cannot exhibit in the conformation classes. 2. Sheep showmanship classes are (all ages as of 9/30/18): Junior Novice: 9-13 years of age and have never shown before in a 4-H or FFA show Senior Novice: years of age and have never shown before in a 4-H or FFA show Junior: 9-12 years of age Intermediate years of age Senior: years of age 10
11 Division 2 Feeder & Market Lambs 1. Only wether or ewe lambs may be shown in this division. Market lambs must show no evidence of testicular tissue and be completely healed from castration. 2. Scales will be provided and lambs will be weighed on the show date to determine final entries in the feeder and market lamb classes. Minor weight adjustments may be made by the sheep show committee to balance classes. Lambs must weigh a minimum of 50 pounds. 3. Feeder & market lambs may be divided into white face, speckle face and black face classes. Heats will be divided by weight. The sheep committee will make the final determination of classes. 4. Ewe lambs shown in this division may not be shown in breeding classes. 5. All feeder and market lambs must be younger than eight (8) months of age. The sheep show committee may mouth lambs to determine age. 6. Bred and owned feeder and market lambs must be out of a dam solely owned by exhibitor at time of breeding; this designation must be indicated on the entry form in order for animal to be entered in bred and owned class and must be accompanied by the additional $3 entry fee ($6 if late). 7. Feeder and market lamb classes are: Class 1 Single Feeder Lamb, white face (50 to 90 lbs.) Class 2 Single Feeder Lamb, speckle face (50 to 90 lbs.) Class 3 Single Feeder Lamb, black face (50 to 90 lbs.) Class 4 Single Market Lamb, white face (91 lbs. and up) Class 5 Single Market Lamb, speckle face (91 lbs. and up) Class 6 Single Market Lamb, black face (91 lbs. and up) Class 7 Bred and Owned Feeder/Market Lamb Class 8 County Group of Three Feeder Lambs, lambs must be owned by 2 different exhibitors Class 9 County Group of Three Market Lambs, lambs must be owned by 2 different exhibitors Division 3 Registered Purebred Classes 1. All sheep must be the property of, and registration certificates issued in the name of, the exhibitor (farm names are not acceptable). Registration papers must be available for inspection at the show. Ownership of registered sheep may be joint with an immediate family member provided the exhibitor s name is found on the certificate. This coincides with the Virginia State Fair Rules. 2. Only lambs may be exhibited with registration pending; however, the certificate of registration of the sire and dam must be available the day of the show. 3. Breed divisions must have four or more animals exhibited by two or more exhibitors. If less, they will be shown in Other Purebred. 4. All lambs must weigh a minimum of 50 pounds. 11
12 5. Bred and owned purebred sheep must be out of a dam solely owned by the exhibitor at time of breeding. This must be indicated on the entry form in order for the animal to be entered in the class and accompanied by the additional $3 entry fee ($6 if late). A maximum of 2 ewes and/or 2 rams may be entered per breed. 6. Wool sheep may be exhibited in full fleece, but all sheep must be clean and well groomed. 3. All lambs must weigh a minimum of 50 pounds. 4. Bred and owned sheep must be out of a dam solely owned by exhibitor at time of breeding. This must be indicated on entry form in order for the animal to be entered in the class and accompanied by the additional $3 entry fee ($6 if late.) A maximum of 2 ewes and/or 2 rams may be entered per section. 5. Sheep should be entered as fine, medium, long, or coarse wooled (in the space designated for breed).
