While serving as a State 4-H Officer, youth will have opportunities to strengthen their leadership, participate in team building workshops, attend a team trip, and gain experience in event planning. We will allow 1st year Seniors (13 and in the 8th grade to apply.) Registration closes February 15th YOUTH GET-AWAY April 26-28, 2019 Glorieta, New Mexico COST: $145 for Participants and Chaperones DEADLINE Registration March 8, 2019 During the weekend, participants will have a chance to learn about a variety of projects including wildlife, rabbit, Fun with Food, recreation, entomology, leadership and many other activities. 6 Horse Council News and Upcoming Events Sunday, February 10th 2-4pm. Top Form Arena, Corrales, NM Emerson Sam - speed events - barrel racing, poles etc. Savannah McSween will do hippology quiz and review Sunday, February 24th 2-4 pm Top Form Arena, Corrales, NM Kansas Haddock - English Equitation Presley Wright will do Hippology quiz and review. A few reminders about Mounted Meetings: 1. Helmets and boots must be worn at all meetings anytime you are in the arena. This is a 4H rule that must be adhered to for liability reasons. 2. Arrive in plenty of time to have your horse tacked up, warmed up and ready to go. 2-Year-Old Western Pleasure Futurity and 3-Year-Old Versatility Nominations 4-H ers with advanced skills in horsemanship are eligible to nominate a two-year-old horse for the Western Pleasure Futurity and Showmanship Classic held each year during the State Fair 4-H Horse Show. Nominations are due in the State 4-H Office by May 1st. Horses eligible for the two-year-old Western Pleasure Futurity must be totally green, that is, having never received any riding by ANYONE other than the 4-H er who nominates this orse to the Futurity. During the State 4-H Fair Horse Show, the horses will participate in three go rounds of Western Pleasure. The horses properly nominated as two-year-olds to the Futurity are eligible the following year to enter the three-year-old Versatility Class. Advice and counsel on training techniques may come from outside sources, however, the 4-H member must do all the riding and work on the Versatility Horse. The Versatility Class is held during the State Fair 4-H Horse Show. Nomination forms and complete rules are available on the State 4-H website under Horse and Livestock Events. There is a $20.00 Horse Certificates Horse Certificates for all Sandoval County 4-H ers enrolled in the Horse or Rodeo projects must completed every year and signed with approval of Steve or Nicole. The horse certificate is a form similar to a registration form. You can find it on the 4-H website under Forms and Publications. They are due on May 1 to the Sandoval County Extension Office. Horses get sold, traded, and/or leased and this is the purpose to do them each year. This is a unique aspect to the project. Horse Certificates are required for any sanctioned 4-H Horse Show. The only way that the agent can verify that the horse being used is the project horse, is for a 4-H member to document that they are the exhibitor, lessee, or owner of that particular horse.

Information will be available closer to the event 2019 New Mexico State 4-H Dog School Deadline Registration TBA The New Mexico State 4-H Dog School was designed to help the 4-H youth get a greater understanding of the 4-H Dog Project, their dog, and their responsibilities to their dog and community. There will be two days of dog and handler training classes, demonstrations and workshops. On the third day, there will be a dog show and awards. When: June, 2019 Where: Bernalillo County Sheriff s Posse Grounds in Albuquerque, NM Registration Fee: $85.00 per 4-H Youth Optional: $ (for daily meals for other attending with 4-H Youth) Registration Deadline: TBA Note: All registration fees, dog vaccination records, and medical release forms need to be received at the County Extension Office. NOTE: RV hook-up fee (electricity and/or water): $25.00 per day (will be monitored by Bernalillo County Sheriff s Posse and must be paid to Dog School Committee or BCSP member). 9 SANDOVAL COUNTY 4-H SCHOLARSHIP Sponsored by Sandoval County 4-H Council Scholarship Information A Scholarship fund has been established by the 4-H County Council to provide financial assistance to 4-H members that wish to attend State, District, or County 4-H events. Scholarship will cover 50% of the registration expenses for Senior Leadership Retreat, Youth-Get-Away, Livestock School, Horse School, Home Ec School, 4-H Dog School, or $250 of the team fees for serving as a State 4-H Officer, Ambassador, or a Diplomat. The scholarship will cover 100% of the registration expenses for 4-H County Camp. The funding may not be used to attend State 4-H Conference, State 4-H Shooting Sports Contest, nor District Contest. Scholarship Criteria Available to any Novice, Junior or Senior 4-H Member. For Application, Link to: 4-H member must submit a Sandoval County 4-H Scholarship application Form.
