Please bring plenty of WATER and sunscreen. There are no shade structures at the ABQ Shooting Range Park, so please plan accordingly and bring your own canopies, chairs, etc.

7 FOR SHOOTING SPORTS: Valencia County has made a couple changes to the NW District Shooting Sports Contest event. ARCHERY CONTEST: The archery contest will take place at Hit or Miss Archery Center in Albuquerque (2801 Broadbent Pkwy NE d, Albuquerque, NM 87107). They have offered the facility to us for free. It is an indoor range that can completely accommodate our contest needs. RIFLE & SHOTGUN CONTESTS: The Rifle and Shotgun Contests will take place at the Albuquerque City Shooting Range Park (16001 Shooting Range Access Rd, Albuquerque, NM 87120). This is the same range we used last year. PRICE: Because Hit or Miss is donating their facilities, we no longer need to charge $10 per child. The new price is $5 per child. LUNCH: Because of the lower price and the changes in location, we are no longer offering lunch for the participants. AWARDS: We will award the Archery Contest participants at Hit or Miss Archery approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the event..22 Rifle Awards will be 30 minutes at the conclusion of the contest. Air Rifle and Shotgun Awards will be at approximately 4:30 pm or 30 minutes at the conclusion of the last contest. Hit or Miss Archery Center and the ABQ Shooting Range Park are about 20 minutes apart from each other. 9 2017 Guide for Livestock Exhibitors The requirements for showing Junior Livestock in New Mexico can be found on the New Mexico 4-H Website or the New Mexico Livestock Board website All inspections must be done by July 15, H Sanctioned Horse Shows The 2017 NM Sanctioned 4-H Horse Shows are as follows: Doña Ana County June 10, 2017 Taos County July 8, 2017 De Baca County July 15, 2017 State 4-H Horse Show, Tucumcari July 21-22, 2017 State Fair Horse Show September 10, 2017 The State 4-H Office will offer end-of-year awards that will be presented at the State Fair Horse Show. Rules are located on the State 4-H website: click on Horse and Livestock Events The State Fair 4-H Horse Show will remain open to all members enrolled in the horse project and do not have to qualify to participate. Make sure you are enrolled in 4-H Horse project online or call the office and Elizabeth will check for you. This horse event will be on Sunday, September 10, Small Farm & Ranch Task Force Regional Livestock School June 8 through Saturday June 9, 2017 The Small Farms & Ranch Task Force (SF&RTF) is having a junior livestock school June 8 9, 2017 at the McGee Park, Farmington, NM. Areas to be covered are: Swine, Lamb & Market Goat. The cost is $65. If you are interested, contact Steve or Nicole as soon as possible at the Extension Office. LEADERS & PARENTS!!! H Adult Forum Count Me In Saturday, November 11th is the annual statewide educational and fun event designed for adults working with the New Mexico 4-H Youth Development Program. Saturday, November 11, 2017 STATE 4-H PORTFOLIO S The Deadline for State 4-H Portfolios to be in the State 4-H Office is JUNE 15, Win a rip to Atlanta, GA and be eligible for scholarships. We hope you are working on your Sandoval County 4-H Portfolio s. They are not due until the Fall following our County Fair. Date to be provided later. 10 Sandoval County 4-H Camp The Sandoval County 4-H Council will host a 3 day sleep-over camp at the Sandoval County Fairgrounds on June 2, 3, 4, The cost for camp is $40.00; includes meals or $25.00 for a day with meals. Cloverbuds are welcome to join us but MUST be accompanied by a parent or authorized guardian. All registrants MUST have a current medical release on file at the extension office. Please send the registration form along with your payment to the Extension Office. You MUST pre-register, pre-pay by Registration Deadline May 23rd by 4:00 P.M. 12 4-H STEM CAMP: Las Cruces, NM ROBOTICS June $150/team Hands On Learning Teach Others Open to teams of Senior 4-HMembers and an adult partner. Limited Space Will be determined by applications. Contact Nicole at the Extension Office if interested, So we can form a team to submit an essay. New this year is 4-H STEM Camp scheduled for June 26th 29th in Las Cruces at the NMSU campus. STEM Camp will use hands-on instruction to teach 4-H teen leaders and their adult partners about science, technology, engineering and mathematics. STEM Camp is being conducted in partnership with the College of Engineering STEM Outreach group. This year, STEM camp will focus on robotics. This camp will accept teams (1 per county) consisting of 1-2 adults and 2-4 Senior age members. Space is limited (max 50) so there will be an application process in which teams will have to describe how they intend to use the knowledge they learn. The teams should attend with the expectation that they will take the knowledge they learn during camp back to their home counties to either start a STEM club/group or teach lessons at 4-H club meetings &/or events. Registration is $150/team regardless of the number of team members and includes supplies, lodging and meals. Meals included are from supper on the 26 th until breakfast on the 29 th. 16 SANDOVAL COUNTY 4-H SCHOLARSHIP Sponsored by Sandoval County 4-H Council Scholarship Information A Scholarship fund has been established by the 4-H County Council to provide financial assistance to 4-H members that wish to attend State, District, or County 4-H events. Scholarship will cover 50% of the registration expenses for Senior Leadership Retreat, Youth-Get-Away, Livestock School, Horse School, Home Ec School, 4-H Dog School, or $250 of the team fees for serving as a State 4-H Officer, Ambassador, or a Diplomat. The scholarship will cover 100% of the registration expenses for 4-H County Camp. The funding may not be used to attend State 4-H Conference, State 4-H Shooting Sports Contest, nor District Contest. Scholarship Criteria Available to any Novice, Junior or Senior 4-H Member. For Application, Link to: 4-H member must submit a Sandoval County 4-H Scholarship application Form.
