REGISTRATION 6 NBBC Family Handbook Members of the NBBC team will be available in the lobby to answer questions and provide guidance to the NBBC Registration area on Wednesday. Registration will be 11:00am - 3:00pm on Wednesday, Nov 15 in Bluebonnet/Dogwood and Begonia/Bottlebrush rooms. All families are required to register during this time. In case of an emergency, or circumstances beyond one s control, please call the office at During registration, families receive individual agendas, name badges, contestant NBBC polo and registration bags. Photo booths will be available for families to have a professional photograph taken. There are also NBBC medallions so contestants can have an official NBBC photograph taken. This will be the only opportunity a contestant has to have an official photograph with the medallion. There are restrooms nearby for contestants to change into the NBBC polos if desired. Photographs will be available for purchase online after the NBBC. Registrants will have an opportunity to take an NBBC tour of the JW Marriott. Tours will be provided on Wednesday, November 15 during registration. The first tour begins at 11:00 am and will run every twenty minutes until 3:00 pm. This tour will take families to the different locations of the event, including but not limited to: Semi-finals, Finals, Preliminaries, Lil Sibs and much more. For further questions regarding schedules or event items, please see the information table at registration or NBBC HQ.

SECURITY Please remember that the National Bible Bee does not have exclusive use of the venue space at the JW Marriott. With over 265,000 square feet of space, the JW Marriott is the largest facility in the area. Parents are advised to use the same discretion when supervising their children at the NBBC as they would at any other large public area. All attendees must wear name tags at all times to be granted access to events. 7 NBBC Family Handbook Families should discuss this topic with their children prior to the event. They can expect to have security badges checked before entering most event and contest areas. Security is our top priority. Please instruct children to find a staff member if they are separated from their family. The staff member will immediately bring them to the NBBC Headquarters (NBBC HQ) and will contact the parent. For security and liability reasons, the National Bible Bee is unable to release contestants/minors to anyone other than their parents. If this presents a scheduling difficulty, please call

Security bracelets will be provided as part of the registration packet on Wednesday. 9 NBBC Family Handbook Shoes are not allowed in the inflatable bouncers, but socks are required to be worn at all times. 12 TRAFFIC FLOW 10 NBBC Family Handbook The National Bible Bee desires to be a testimony of kindness and thoughtful manners to all JW Marriott guests and staff. This includes noise, speed of movement and congestion in the JW Marriott hallways. The Family Fun Room will be a wonderful opportunity to hang out and have fun, and the JW Marriott has many seating areas for fellowship. Please help keep the middle of the hallways clear, so other guests can easily get to their engagements. While located in the JW Marriott seating and public areas, please be respectful of the other guests, especially during sleeping hours. This is also true during the competition. The Preliminary Competition has been structured carefully so that there is no waiting time in the hallways. Please follow the contest instructions carefully, and please refrain from waiting in the hallways. Unfortunately, this means the tradition of clapping for the contestants as they move to the different contest areas is not encouraged, as this congests the hallways and interrupts other meetings happening at the JW Marriott. Please reserve applause for our ceremonies where the contestants hard work will be acknowledged.

SERVING The National Bible Bee Competition takes a tremendous amount of teamwork to execute each year. Choosing to be a part of the NBBC is an opportunity to serve by using your gifts and abilities. One member of each family (15 years or older) is asked to serve one block of time (no more than 2-3 hours) during the week of NBBC. Additional family members or friends are welcome to serve as well. The administrative team works to ensure that scheduled service times do not conflict with contestant family schedules so that each family has the opportunity to enjoy their contestant s participation in NBBC. For the protection of all involved, a background check is required for those serving who are 18 years or older. The background check is free, easy and part of the NBBC registration process. A few areas where individuals can serve include: Family Fun Room, Lil Sibs, Greeting and Traffic Control. 11 NBBC Family Handbook The National Bible Bee families are an integral part of making the NBBC a success. By serving, each family can ensure that their investment in study and memorization of Scripture will culminate in an exciting and memorable NBBC experience.

VIDEO FOOTAGE 12 NBBC Family Handbook NBB will be filming elements of the NBBC for promotional use. Semi-finalists and Finalists should expect to recite in front of a camera as well as an audience. It might be helpful for younger contestants to practice in advance. Please be aware, there may be roaming cameras throughout the entire event, capturing images and film that may be used for promotional use. SUNDAY HOUSE The Sunday House will be open and available as a quiet place for prayer throughout the week, beginning Thursday morning. Feel free to come in and pray as a group or individually.

GUESTS If a contestant qualifies for Semi-Finals or Finals, local guests may be invited to watch them compete. All guests must be accompanied by a registered family member to the NBBC HQ to receive their nametags, which will act as a complimentary day pass. This gives guests access only to the Semi-Finals and/or Finals Rounds. All other NBBC events are open only to paid registrants. JW Marriott waterpark access is only open to families who are staying at the JW Marriott and have a valid room key. 13 NBBC Family Handbook It is strongly recommended to register any guests in advance. Please info@biblebee.org to get the link to register day guests.

CONTEST 14 NBBC Family Handbook Please carefully read the contest instructions on the personal NBBC agenda given out at registration. Each division has a different schedule and process. It is imperative that each time and location be carefully followed or the contest will be affected. Each contestant can invite four guests (12 yrs and older) to their Preliminary Oral Recitation. For example, a family with two contestants will have 8 tickets available, but only 4 tickets per contestant (the tickets are not interchangeable). Snacks: Junior and Primary contestants will be provided a snack of organic applesauce while they are in the staging areas between their Computer Based Test and Oral Recitations. There will be water fountains available as well. No other snacks are permitted due to food allergies. Bathroom Breaks: If necessary, Division Guides will be available to take contestants to the restroom while they are waiting in line for Oral Recitation, or waiting in the CBT and Oral Recitation Staging Areas.

CHILDCARE LIL SIBS During the Preliminary competition on Thursday, Nov 16, childcare will be provided for any of the contestant s siblings 1-11 years old so parents can enjoy the Preliminary Round of Oral Recitation. Registration for childcare is part of the registration process in August and must be completed by August 30th. Please Note: We are not able to provide childcare for siblings that are not registered during that time. In order to provide adequate childcare, all children must be registered by August 30. Unfortunately, this means we are not able to provide drop-in childcare. 15 NBBC Family Handbook Please plan enough time to drop children off at the Lil Sibs area before proceeding to the Oral Recitation. Please refer to the provided agenda for drop off and pick up times. Parents with both a Primary and a Junior contestant: To attend Primary contestant s Oral Recitation, please drop Junior contestants off at Lil Sibs first. The Division Guides will bring Junior contestants to their Computer Based Test (CBT). Please pick up children promptly. Families that have a Primary and Junior contestant, and are utilizing Lil Sibs child care during their Oral Recitations, can keep their children in Lil Sibs through both Recitations. Because these children will be in childcare from 7:15-12:45, NBB will be providing an organic applesauce pouch as a snack. *All children must be picked up at the start of lunch hour (12:45 pm).

QUALIFIER AWARDS PRESENTATION PROCESS 16 Opening Ceremony will be held on Thursday night. NBBC Family Handbook Preliminary Round 5:45pm: Contestants are asked to arrive at the Grand Oaks Ballroom for the Qualifier Awards Training. NBB Staff and Division Guides will help contestants be seated according to the information on their name tags. Doors will open at 6:30pm for families to get seated. Opening Ceremony begins at 7:00pm. 7:00pm: Each division will be presented one at a time. The first division will walk on stage as their names are read, receive a medallion and take a group picture. Next, the Semi Finalist announcements will be made: the Semi Finalists will remain on stage when their name is called to have a group photo taken. All other contestants will then walk off the stage to their reserved seats, and the next division will begin their presentation.
