3 Welcome to MTB-O Sweden! On behalf of the Swedish Orienteering Federation I would like to welcome all World Cup and World Masters participants to Sweden s first international competitions in Mountainbike Orienteering. Mountainbike Orienteering is a new discipline in Swedish orienteering, with this year being the first when we have held our own national championships. We are therefore pleased to already be organising the World Cup and World Masters Championships. Although the sport is young here, we know that the organisers have worked hard to create challenging, fair and fun competitions and we trust you will be pleased with the results of their preparations. While you are here take time to enjoy the surroundings of Leksand and Rättvik, this part of Sweden is among the most popular for tourist visits. We know you won t be disappointed. Classes, courses and participation restrictions World Cup: Each federation may enter a team manager and a team of 12 competitors up to 6 women in class WE and 6 men in class ME for the individual competitions. World Masters: No restrictions for the number of participants in each age class. 5. Event (scale of the map, equidistance), courseplanner In the table for course length, difference in altitude, etcetera, are the distances provisional, since the course planners just have been able to get back into the terrain after the winter, and they want check all courses before they make the final decision about them. 9 6. Map details Surveyed in 2010/2011 At these competitions, it is allowed to bike everywhere, except for in the areas marked as forbidden on the map. These areas are marked with red stripes. See map samples at the start. Some of the forbidden areas are also marked with blue and yellow stripes in the forest. It s also forbidden to bike on gardens (land set aside for building,) which is marked with olive green on the map. See map sample. 7. Competition Rules The Competition Rules for IOF Mountainbike Orienteering Events (1 January 2010) shall be applied to participation in World Cup round 2, For further details on regulations please refer to the Competitions Rules on the IOFweb.( Special rules for the event: Off road riding is allowed in areas marked as forest and rideable open area marked on the map. Please note, that rideable in this sense refers to no restrictions, and does not mean that competitors can actually by advantage cross the area riding their bike. 8. General safety notes Please observe general safety rules and respect members of the public in the competition area. As much as possible, please travel on the right side of the road and overtake on the left side. Riders travelling uphill must be given priority. Riders on the smaller path should give priority to riders on the larger path. Competitiors must wear helmet and the SI must be fixed on the bike. 9. Opening ceremony The opening ceremony of IOF MTBO World cup round 2 and IOF MTBO World masters will take place in the center of town Rättvik. The ceremony begins at 17:00 and will last for one hour. A flag parade with all participating countries will start the ceremony and therefore, all participants is asked to walk in the parade. Gathering before flag parade will be next to the river Enån, in the east side of the town at 16:45. 9

10 10. Model event The Model Event will take place in Nittsjö 5km north Rättvik. Thursday and Friday All participants will have access to the Model Event map, which will be available at the competition office. The Model Event uses only flags, no SI and no courses. There may be people and horses practising horseback-riding or sulky-trotting in the model event-area, please be aware of this and take it easy in the terrain! 11. Time keeping system Sport Ident will be used on all events. Everybody should provide the number of their SI cards with their entry. SI-cards can be rented from Organizers for EUR 2/day. 12. Competitor bag Competitor bags and start bibs will be handled out at the Event Center. The bags and startbibs that has not been collected in Rättvik before closing on Friday will be available at the Event office in Leksand on Saturday. 13. Start bibs World Cup: Participants in middle distance will receive start bibs numbered according to their start order. For Long distance after the IOF ranking. The bibs for the relay will be marked with the leg and the 3rd leg will also have a yellow stripe. For all other competitors it will be same start bib for all races. The start bib should be attached in the front of the bike. 14. Start groups Start groups in World Cup allocation will be limited to Middle distance. At Long distance there will be mass start. Each Federation shall for Middle allocate its competitors (except for those in the red starting group) to 3 starting groups with a maximum of 2 competitors to each group. Before allocating a second competitor to a group, a Federation shall allocate one competitor to each group. If a Federation fails to allocate its competitors to starting groups before the deadline at the day before the competition, the organizer will decide the allocation. The Red Start Group is mandatory for competitors who qualify for it. 10

11 The members of the Red Group will include the reigning World Champion of Middle and the required number of riders based on the World Ranking List to comprise 10 competitors for the Red Group as shown below. The start order within the Red Start Group and the other groups will be drawn at random (except for two riders from same federation next to each other). The Red start group starts last. 12 15. Team Leaders Meeting Team Leaders meeting will take place at 18:00 in Event center (Jarlstugan) Friday- Sunday 16. Complaint protests and jury Any complaint shall be made in writing and submitted to the organizers by the finish of the day. The deadline for complaints is 1 hour from the finish of the competitor related to the complaint, unless there are valid exceptional circumstances explained in the complaint. A protest can be made against the organizers decision about the complaint. Any protest can be made in writing to a member of the jury no later than 1 hour after the organizer announced the decision about the complaint Members of the jury: Magnus Wallenborg (SWE) Jiry Vrany (CZE), Sandor Talas (HUN). 17. Legal restrictions All participants takes part at her/his own risk. Organizers are not liable for any health problem or damage on the equipment. Climate Sweden has a mild climate with no extremes of heat or cold. In June, the mean daytime temperature typically varies between 10 and 21 degrees Celsius. Occasional rain should be expected. 70 mm rain is the average for the month. In midsummer week the sunrise is at and the sunset at 21: Opportunities for training 1) Kvarnsvedens GoIF had a mtbo competion 12th of June i Borlänge, 60km south of Rättvik. The courses can also be used the week before World Cup for training. Maps and terrain like competitions area. Here we can offer two different MTBO-maps, formerly used for local competitions with or without pre-drawn courses but without any flags in the terrain. 12

13 19. Massage During the competition days, Ormsalva Massage Team offers massage by the finish area, for a cost of 100 SEK/15 EUR. 20. Medical aid In the finish area medical aid will be available 21. Bike service The sport shop Team Sportia in Rättvik will be, except of normal opening times 10:00-18:00 on week days and 10:00-14:00 on Saturday open on call on Saturday and Sunday between 15:00-17:00. They will offer spare parts and major bicycle service. Call number for assistance. Adress: Storgatan 14, Rättvik. 22. Prizes World Cup: Medal to the winners. Gift prizes to 1-6 in each class. Mix relay: Medal to the winners gift prizes 1-3 team World Masters: Medal to 1-3. Gift prizes to the winner and a number of others. 23. Come together dinner It is still possible to sign up for the dinner on Saturday. The dinner will be held in conjunction with the price giving ceremony at Stiftsgården, Rättvik. The dinner will consist of a traditional Swedish Smörgåsbord-buffet with different cold and hot dishes such as salomon, herring, roastbeef, some other kinds of fish and meat, some salad and some varities of potato. Coffee, tea and biscuits will be served after the dinner. It will be possible to get pasta upon request in advance. The price for the dinner is 220 SEK. There will also be some musical entertainment on spot. If you have not already signed up for the dinner, please send an to info@ mtbosweden.se. Some spare places will be available for sale on Event center during Thursday. 13

14 24. Catering There will be a Café at all arenas with coffee, cold beverages, hot-dogs and sweets for sale. There is also possible to have lunch at all arenas on competiton-days. Tickets for lunch can be bought on Event Center and on the arena-café. The lunch-menu will be posted at the Event center and at the arena. 25. Transports Rättvik is a small town. The events on Sunday and Monday are reachable by bike if you have your accommodation in Rättvik. Use of private cars is allowed to all events. If you need transport to middle distance in Leksand on Saturday please contact the Event center in advance! Please inform the organizers if you need assistance from Stockholm Arlanda airport. You can go from Stockholm/ Arlanda airport to Leksand/Rättvik by train (3 hour trip), 9 times a day from Arlanda to Rättvik 17th of June and 5 times from Rättvik to Arlanda on Monday 20th. Please take note about that un-packed bicycles (not kept in some kind of bag) is not allowed on the SJ-trains. On the local trains between Borlänge and Rättvik, bikes is allowed. 18 29. Embargoed areas Following areas are under an embargoed for the participants in World Cup round 2 and World Masters for the period from 1 July 2010 until the competitions. (according to IOF Competitions Rules). Leksand: Area South Leksand, between Leksand-Häradsbygden-Åkersbodarna-Heden Rättvik: Area North Rättvik, between Rättvik-Sätra-Östbjörka-Ingels. 18

Specific competetion information DAY 1: Saturday 18th June, Leksand, Middle distance Race venue: Källan, Källbacksvägen 2, S-7933 LEKSAND, 20 km from Event center GPS: lat long (DD) Parking: Follow the organizers directions Arena Leksand: See overview page 21 First start: World Cup 09:30, World Masters and open class 13:00 Start distance: 3100m from the Finish Pre-Start: 3 min before start Start point: 380m from time start Start interval 2 min for World cup, other classes vary Map changes: World Cup have a map change. Both maps are taken by the rider at the start. The maps are stapled together, with the first part of the course facing up. Finish: By punching at the Finish line Finish quarantine: Quarantine zone will be inside the clubhouse for World Cup riders. Until last World Cup start all competitors finishing their course shall remain in the quarantine zone. No other competitors or other member of a team will be allowed to get in to the house under the period. In the clubhouse the competitors can have a shower and sauna. Shower: In the clubhouse Cycling time: max.150 min Spectator control: In the finish area for World Cup Refreshment: For World Cup competitors there is possibility for selfserved refreshment after 60% of the course. Riders then have to place their own refreshments in an area with nation names in a part of the arena. Other classes have to bring with them their own refreshment. 19

Both maps are taken by the rider at the start. The maps are stapled together, with the first part of the course facing up. Forking method, World cup: World cup classes uses butterfly forking. Mens class has 2 butterfly and Women has one butterfly. Crossings over the river: On some of the small bridges, you will have to stop and carry your bike by foot, due to different buildingconstructions. These obstacles is not represented on the map. Go-cart track: The Go-cart track is used for Go-cart racing during the times of the competitions. This may cause some motorized traffic on the asphalt road to the track. Please be careful when crossing the road. Warming up area: No possibility to warm up in the forest, warming up on roads south and west from finish area is allowed. Finish: For World Cup by crossing the finish line. Other classes use punching on the finish line Shower: In the clubhouse Cycling time: max. 200 min Refreshment: Refreshment controll for the longers courses. Only water and cups. 20

21 DAY 3: Monday 20th June Rättvik, World Cup relay/masters sprint/ Open middle Race venue: Event center, Backavägen 38, S Rättvik GPS: lat= , lon= (DD) Parking: Follow the organizers directions Arena Rättvik: See overview page 21 Start: Relay start for World Cup other individual start First start: World Cup 09:00, World Masters and open class from 11:00 Start distance: World Cup finish area, other 800m from the Finish Pre-Start: 10 min World Cup / other 3 min before start Start point: 250m from time start Start interval: 2 min for individual classes Organization start: The map will be given to riders and they run to the bikes placed 20 m ahead. Then they ride in corridor to map start (begin of orientation) 200m away and go on their O-course Forking: All courses are forked, using the Farsta-method. Changeover and finish: Finishing riders from 1.- and 2.leg shall change to the following rider in their team. After crossing the finishing line, the rider claps the hand of the teammate. Only after the clap, the outgoing rider start to go 5 0 m to the map board and may take the map and head through the corridor towards the starting point. Incoming riders shall punch out after the changeover. Crossings over the river: On some of the small bridges, you will have to stop and carry your bike by foot, due to different buildingconstructions. These obstacles is not represented on the map.
