3 1. Welcome From Our Race Director Dear Triathlete, A very warm welcome to the 12th running of Irelands most popular Triathlon. It is a pleasure to have you racing here in Athy where the town looks forward to seeing the 2000 or so Triathletes take on what must be the safest course in Ireland every year. We hope you enjoy the safe swim in the Barrow and the closed road bike course and a finish line beside Athy s newly refurbished Public Library. We again have massive numbers descending on Athy and I look forward to seeing many happy faces at the finish line including the 400 or so Newbie s / first timers. My only hope is we get a decent day and some sunshine so fingers crossed. Behind the scenes a huge volume of work has taken place by a sizeable team to ensure that TriAthy 2018 is delivered with extraordinary precision. We again have many local clubs helping this year, including the Athy Rowing club, Athy GAA club, Stradbally GAA club, Kildare Youth Services. Also this year I am particularly happy to welcome Athy Triathlon Club to our team. Athy Tri Club will be looking after you in transition and it is very reassuring for me to know we have experienced Triathletes managing that section of the race. All of these clubs enjoy the day and raise funds for their clubs so they very much appreciate what TriAthy brings to the town and your support of the event. It would be remiss of me not to thank the amazing support of our sponsors who come up trumps every year. 7 5. Your Arrival To Venues 5.1 DUBLIN VENUE: Wheelworx, Fonthill Retail Park (close to Liffey Valley), Dublin FROM M50: Take Junction 7 off the M50 heading west. Take Junction 2 off the N4 onto the R113 Wheelworx Store is just off the Fonthill Road 5.2 ATHY VENUE: Athy GAA Club, Dublin Road, Athy, Co. Kildare FROM NORTH / DUBLIN / WATERFORD / SOUTH-EAST: Take Junction 3 on M9 and go towards Athy. On approach to Athy at the roundabout head in the direction of the Town Centre Follow the directions from marshals guiding you to a parking point close to the Athy GAA grounds (known locally as The Showgrounds ) FROM CORK / LIMERICK / SOUTH Take Exit 16 on M7 at Portlaoise Follow signs for N80 / Stradbally and head in the direction of Stradbally / Carlow Go through Stradbally town. On the fringes of the town take the R428 to Athy At Athy take a left through the town (on the N78) Go straight through Athy town in the direction of Dublin. The Athy GAA Grounds are located approximately 1km on the outskirts of Athy. 5.3 PARKING AT ATHY: Parking for all competitors will be in the grounds of Athy GAA Club on the Dublin Road. If leaving valuables in your car please lock in the boot and do not leave on display. Once parked proceed to the ATHY GAA Clubhouse for registration OR if you have registered at our Dublin Venue proceed straight to the Transition zone for racking and setup TriAthy 2018 Page 7 of 14

Registration & Collecting Race Packs PLEASE NOTE ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST COLLECT RACE PACKS IN ADVANCE AND IN GOOD TIME FOR THE RELEVANT RACE STEP 1 PLEASE HAVE READY FOR SCANNING ENTRY CONFIRMATION and YOUR RACE LICENCE Confirmation s will be re-sent to all participants on Monday 28th May *If you are registered but cant access the confirmation we can look for you manually by using your Race Number. iphone users can add the confirmation to their Apple Wallet using the link in the mail. SCAN 1 QR CODE OF ENTRY SCAN 2 YOUR RACE LICENCE We will scan the QR code on the entry and then scan your Race Licence. YOU MAY REGISTER & COLLECT RACE PACKS ON BEHALF OF YOUR PARTNER / FRIEND / CLUB MATE. All you need do is bring THEIR race with QR code and a photocopy of THEIR TI licence or ODM (+ photo ID) and you will be able to collect their race pack. Triathlon Ireland Annual Licence Holder s present your 2018 Licence which MUST have your photo inserted. Valid ITU member affiliated licences will also be accepted. Prior year licence s will be rejected as out of date and invalid. If you are not a Triathlon Ireland member or if you are an Associate Member of Triathlon Ireland, please bring along the receipt from TI for your One Day Licence AND photo ID (Drivers Licence etc). 9 STEP 2 - COLLECT YOUR PACK INSIDE your race pack will be: **Your Race Number with Food Voucher Attached TriAthy Label Set: To be placed on your bike and helmet. Please use label for BAG DROP. These are a necessary security item and you will not be permitted in or out of transition without them Disposable Timing Tag: To be placed around your left ankle. SEPARATELY you will also be issued with a colour coded Swim Hat AND a FREE TriAthy Race Belt AND a FREE Wheelworx TriAthy Bike Bottle If you purchased a Race T-Shirt or TriAthy Kit Bag please also pick up at the venue. Your TriAthy Event Goodie Bag will be available for collection at the finish line along with your medal! THATS IT - YOU RE READY TO RACE! PLEASE DON T FORGET YOUR RACE LICENCE! If you need a One Day Membership you must purchase it from before arriving at registration and at the latest before midnight on Thursday 31st May TriAthy 2018 Page 9 of 14

10 6. Your Race At the appropriate time shown on your race schedule please proceed to the Transition Area for Bike Check, Racking, and Race Briefing. Be aware that the Transition Zone is approx 800m from the Registration Venue. Please allow 15mins to move between points and kindly be aware that roads will remain open on this journey. The Transition space is colour coded for each race (see Section 4): Red for Double Olympic; Orange for Olympic; Blue for Sprint; and Green for TryAthy This convention is also used on our Race Bibs, Race Belts, Race Tri Sticker Sets! 6.2 BIKE SAFETY CHECK As you enter transition, there will be a Safety Check carried out to confirm that: 1 - Your Bike is in good working order (brakes, tyre pressure, plug-ends on handlebars) and roadworthy. 2 - Your helmet is a cycling helmet (i.e. not Hurling or Skating!), and that it fits (you may need to adjust). 3 - Your race number is attached to your helmet and bike. 4 - Your Timing Chip is attached to your LEFT ankle. Our bike mechanic will be available to assist with minor last minute bike issues, eg tyre pressure. 6.3 BIKE RACKING DESIGNATED SPACES Participants will be guided to the correct transition area. The Transition Area will have a designated space for you that corresponds with your race number. So for example Bib number 1001 below will rack at Position 1001 which is in the Double Olympic Red Transition Zone. You MUST use this location in transition. Please don t use any other position. Only essential race items permitted in transition. One Large Bag may be left in the new Bag Drop area. Please attach the bag sticker to your bag. We can not accept the bag without the sticker. 6.4 THE RACE BRIEFING All competitors must attend their race briefing. Briefings take place at the SWIM START LOCATION for each race. 11 A general briefing will take place in Olympic transition zone at 07:45hrs for all. 6.5 BAG DROP All Bags MUST be labelled using the sticker provided at registration. 1 BAG ONLY per competitor please. The Bag will be available for collection at the same location it was dropped off before the race. 6.6 KNOWING THE COURSE All competitors should be aware of the requirements of the distance they are racing and the correct movements in and out of their transition zone. Please view our comprehensive maps of each race at under EVENT > RACES 6.7 FINISHING CHUTE Please remember that the finish line for TriAthy is on the West side of the River at the grounds of the former Dominican Church which has now been converted in to the Towns Library. On the final lap of the run course, competitors will cross The Horsebridge over the River Barrow to finish in the grounds of this building. 6.8 WATER STATIONS ON THE RUN COURSE There will be two water stations located along the 5km lap run course. The first is located just outside the transition area at the start of a lap, and the second is located approximately 3km into the lap. 7. Post-Race 7.1 NEW FINISH AREA All Races will finish in the grounds of the former Dominican Church. Don t forget to smile for the cameras at the finish line AND capture that all important finisher s medal. 7.2 YOUR RESULTS Results will be LIVE on our website and If you would like a direct link to the results please scan the QR code on your race number. 7.4 POST RACE FOOD Water and your Goodie Bag full with of products will be available when you finish. If finisher s would like some post-race hot food this will be provided by our Caterers at the finish area. Please detach voucher from your race bib to claim your portion! You MUST have a voucher to claim your post-race food! TriAthy 2018 Page 11 of 14

12 7.5 SHOWERS AVAILABLE AT K-LEISURE K-Leisure are offering a special 5 rate to access their shower and leisure facilities. To avail of this rate please show your race bib on the day of the race. K-Leisure is located close to the Main Starting Point at the crest of the green area overlooking the River Barrow. 7.6 BIKE COLLECTION Transition will reopen after the last bike has returned. We estimate that this will be approximately 12:30hrs - 13:00hrs. Please remove your litter from transition as you leave. Please remember to take YOUR bike helmet, bike and wetsuit. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK that you have the correct wetsuit as mistakes are easily made. 8. Social Keep It Social and Keep In The Loop!
