Do not leave transition without a timing chip coded to your bib number. Bike, helmet, your bib number and both bags (blue & red) stay in transition over night! You can access both bike and bags on race day from 05:00 am. That gives you the possibility to check your items again and add stuff to your bags. 20 Race Day Race Day Don t try anything you are not used to!! Getting up You should get up early enough to have time for your final race preparations. We recommend getting up 2.5 to 3 hours before your start time (consider also that the transition area closes at 06:45 a.m.). You feel like you haven t slept one bit? Don t worry, that s normal and will not have an influence on your race performance. Parking All parking areas you can find here ( Parking Hyatt - approx 15 minute travel to the event area by public tansport Parking Brunaupark and Sihlcity - approx 15 minutes travel to the event area by public tansport On Sundays public parkings are free of charge (marked white or blue) Put on your timing chip right after getting up! Breakfast Breakfast should not be taken any later than 2 hours before the start! Eat foods that you are used to / normally have for breakfast. Drink enough (liquid with added electrolytes). Getting to the event area Consider that there are around other athletes who are on the same schedule as you are. Everybody wants to get as close to the event area as possible and as fast as possible. The access streets to the event area are closed already in the early morning. Please plan your journey accordingly. We recommend to use public transportation. It s only a few hundred meters walk from train station Wollishofen or tram station Billoweg. Check your connections on 20
21 21
22 Race Day Transition Area / Pre-Race Routine Check your tire pressure. Be easy when adding air! Less is often more and you do not want to have your tire bursting! Is it really a good idea to have those bike shoes already attached to your pedals? Have you trained putting them on on the fly? Blue bag: bike gear red bag: running gear Only the shoes (attached to the pedals) and the bottles can be left at the bike (not on the floor!) Transition area closes at 06:45! Bike mechanic Bike mechanic, is ready for you from 05:00 am in transition. WCs / Toilets Use the toilets in transition and on your way to the swim start White Bag Pack your white bag with items or clothing you want to put on after the race. Do not pack any valuables! Hang the white bag on the rack according to your bib number in the athletes garden on your way to the swim start. Swim Start Go to the starting area early! It is recommended to test the waters before your start. The start area opens at 6:00 am. What is a rolling start? Athletes will line up according to their realistic (!) predicted swim time (self-seeding) and every 5 seconds, we will send out 8 athletes. It will take approximately 15 minutes to get the entire field across the swim start line. In effect, this will create a time trial dynamic for the race and for the determination of the final results. Please notice: The predicted swim time does not have to be communicated to the race officials in advance. Do moderate swimmers have any advantage by starting in the front part of the field? No, it is quite the contrary. If a moderate swimmer starts in the front part of the field, she/he will be passed by hundreds of fast swimmers which poses a needless risk for all involved parties. The cut-offs stay the same (2h 20min swim, 10h swim/bike, 16h swim/bike/run) and all athletes with a finishing time of more than 16 hours do not appear in the results list. PLEASE BE HONEST TO YOURSELF AND LINE UP ACCORDING TO YOUR REALISTIC EXPECTED SWIM TIME! 22
23 Race Day After your swim warm-up at am get into the pre-start area. Enter the one marked with your estimated swim time. You can enter any of the prestart areas at any time until am. 1. Startbox: Less than 60 minutes (very good/fast swimmers) 2. Startbox: minutes 3. Startbox: minutes 4. Startbox: minutes 5. Startbox: More than 90 minutes Male PRO Start at 06:40 am, Female PRO Start at 06:42 am Start of age group categories from 06:45 am. From that point of time, we send 8 athletes every 5 seconds. Read more about the rolling start HERE 23
