We may need more time for sprint heats and events may be significantly shortened / cancelled due to poor weather conditions. 2 Round pm High Jump Long Jump Shot Put Discus Schools to coordinate the following & Results Tauranga Intermediate Cricket Ball Throw Rotorua Intermediate High Jump Otumoetai Intermediate Long Jump Te Puke Intermediate Shot Put Mt Maunganui Intermediate Discus Whakatane Intermediate Schools must supply all helpers for the event they have been allocated All field events will be run on a championship basis. Each school will be responsible for the smooth running of their activity and ensuring that children are aware of event requirements. Certificates will be given out for place getters at the end of each event (supplied by Sport BOP). Event organisers will be given code recording sheets supplied by Sport BOP, to be completed and handed in at the end of each round to the control office upstairs. 3 Uniforms should clearly identify the school the athlete is from. Correct uniform is essential to ease officiating, please ensure all athletes adhere to this. Championship Points Points allocated for placings: 1 st = 5 points 2 nd = 3 points 3 rd = 1points Awards for: Year 7 Girls Champion (1st, 2nd, 3rd medal) Year 7 Boys Champion (1st, 2nd, 3rd medal) Year 8 Girls Champion (1st, 2nd, 3rd medal) Year 8 Boys Champion (1st, 2nd, 3rd medal) Champion School (cup) Sport BOP will supply medals for the champion year group/gender place getters Events 1500m, 800m, 100m, 200m, 300m, Relay Cricket Ball Throw, Shot Put, Discus, Long Jump, High Jump At all times track events take precedence over field events Competitors must report to their appropriate field event recorder before moving off to a track event Sprint Finals Qualification Criteria 100 metres, 200 metres and 300 metres 8 lanes Fastest 8 times from the heats go through to the finals Spikes If using spikes on the track they must be Christmas Tree - 6mm max 100m, 200m & 300m Sprints Assembly Line Athletes are placed on an Assembly line by marshals. On Your Marks All competitors must move forward to the Start Line For a STANDING/CROUCH START the athlete must address the starting line in a running position (i.e. one foot forward) Set This is called when all competitors are STILL in ON YOUR MARKS position. For a STANDING/CROUCH START the athlete shall assume their full and final start position with both feet in contact with the ground Gun this will be fired when ALL the field is STILL Break the first false start will be called on the field and the athlete(s) responsible shall be warned. Any athlete(s) making further false starts shall be disqualified. 800m Races Assembly Line Athletes are placed on an Assembly line by marshals. On Your Marks All competitors then move forward to the Start Line A Standing Start is mandatory. The feet MUST be placed in the position from which they will PUSH OFF when the gun goes. Gun this will be fired when ALL the field is STILL
4 Break the first false start will be called on the field and the athlete(s) responsible shall be warned. Any athlete(s) making further false starts shall be disqualified. All competitors should receive 3 throws / jumps Qualifying throws/ jumps Only measure jumps/throws if athlete passes standard. Shot Put Year 7 Boys & Girls 6.5 m Year 8 Boys & Girls 7.0m Discus Year 7 Boys 16m Year 7 Girls 14m Year 8 Boys 20m Year 8 Girls 14m Shot Put weight - All age groups 2.75kg Discus weight - All age groups 1.00kg The Discus Throw - The Stand: During the stand an athlete winds the discus into delivery position and delivers it. From the ground up key areas for the stand are Feet wider than shoulder width with an instep to toe relationship for the right and left feet. Line up with shoulders square to the back of the circle (same as a full throw start). Right foot will be in the centre of the ring closer to the front of the ring. Right toe will aim about 90 degrees away from the front of the ring. Left toe will aim at right instep. Discus should be wound once and put over the athlete s right shoulder. Virtually all body weight will be on the right foot. Long Jump Year 7 Boys 3.70m Year 7 Girls 3.30m Year 8 Boys 3.80m Year 8 Girls 3.50m High Jump Mat must not be moved during the high jump event Year 7 Boys 1.15cm start 5cm increases qualifying standard 1.30m Year 7 Girls 1.15cm start 5cm increases qualifying standard 1.20m Year 8 Boys 1.25cm start 5 cm increases qualifying standard 1.35m Year 8 Girls 1.15cm start 5cm increases qualifying standard 1.25m If wet the high jump continuing will be decided on a round by round basis. This will be decided by Sport BOP and the high jump coordinator. The round will not be rushed through and if cancelled half way through no awards will be given. Cricket Ball Throw Cricket Ball Throw is an extra event and will be timetabled into the programme at the same time as the high jump event for all year groups (if students qualify for both events they will have to choose which one they will compete in at the BOP/Poverty Bay Athletics). Relays Events 4 x 100m Year 7 2nd & 3rd fastest Yr 7 boys (x2) & Yr 7 girls (x2) 4 x 100m Year 8 2nd & 3rd fastest Yr 8 boys (x2) & Yr 8 girls (x2) 4 x 100m Championship Fastest runner for each year and gender (1 x Yr 7 girl, 1 x Yr 7 boy, 1x Yr 8 girl, 1 x Yr 8 boy) Runners are only permitted to compete in one relay event! A team will be disqualified if a runner competes in more than one relay event. All team members should report to the marshals at the appropriate relay change over area. Relay will be run around 400m track
5 Entry Form All schools must nominate a team manager Please record names in school sports placing order School Entries 3 Athletes per event (e.g. 3 x Year 7 girls, 3 x Year 7 boys per school etc) 2 Athletes per event (e.g. 2 x Year 8 girls, 2 x Year 8 boys per school etc) Substitutions Substitutions may be made on the day. Athletes will compete under the name appearing on the programme and only advise the event recorder in the case of their gaining a place in heats or finals. Event Procedures It is strongly advised that you run your school event in the same format. It is very important that you follow the correct entry criteria, technique guidelines and rules at your school athletic events. SPORT BOP TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY: By entering the BOP/Poverty Bay Athletics you agree to use your best endeavours to prevent injury or harm to yourself and others whilst participating. In doing so you agree to waive all claims against Sport BOP. You acknowledge that the activities in which you may participate whilst competing or practising have inherent dangers which may cause injury to yourself or others (ranging from minor injuries to more serious injuries) if carried out without due care, with inadequate training or preparation, or without proper supervision. Sport BOP do not accept any liability for failure on your part to take due care to prevent harm to yourself or others whilst attending the competition and exclude all liability for damages (whether exemplary damages or otherwise) howsoever arising. Sport BOP has the unconditional right to use at its discretion any photographic and/or video images taken of any competitors/officials while participating at the athletics, and any information provided by you, in any form of media, art, advertising, trade, visual documentary, promotional material, merchandise or film coverage without any compensation to you or approval by you.
