Ron has been working at the club for the past 10 years, but started sailing at RCYC in 1995 at the age of 16, when he crewed on Yacht Paragon III with Ivor Jamison.

1 Sailing News & More 7 th September 2012 CLUB NEWS Due to a Telkom technical failure, the club has been without facilities since Tuesday 04 th September. We apologize for any inconvenience that may have been caused by this disruption to our services. We are attending to the problem and hope this service is available shortly. Ron Keytel will be officially retiring from his role as Sailing Administrator at RCYC at the end of this month, and we would like to invite ALL OF YOU to come down to the club on Wednesday 26 th September at 18h00 to wish Ron well in his retirement. Ron has been working at the club for the past 10 years, but started sailing at RCYC in 1995 at the age of 16, when he crewed on Yacht Paragon III with Ivor Jamison. I m sure he has lots of stories to tell. Ron was recently awarded the Charlie Mouat Award, by SAS Western Cape, for his services to yachting in the Western Cape. Way to go Ron! Last week I mentioned the name of our RCYC members who were awarded their SAS Western Cape Provincial Colours for sailing, and there were a few members that were omitted. They were Markus Progli, In MacRobert, Olivier vande Pitte, and Nic Baigrie. Congratulations! Opening Cruise on Saturday 6 th October is a Nautical Theme. Proceedings start at 12h00. Sail Past in the V&A Harbour. FROM THE MARINA Boat owners please ensure that your vessel is adequately tied to its moorings in the event of strong winds and storms. The Club is offering S/Y HALALI (Extended Impact) for sale. The vessel is currently moored on SK18. Offers are to be submitted to the Marina Manager. The condition of sale is that the successful bidder will remove the vessel from the mooring within 14 days of purchase.

Please come down to the club and meet Steven, who is an avid sailor himself and has been very involved in the harbour control of the Volvo Ocean race both here in Cape Town and in Abu Dhabi. For further information and regular updates visit boatshow.com Despite the procedures for SAS membership renewals having been published last year, there seems to be some confusion as to what members have to do to obtain their individual SAS Membership Numbers. Here is the way it works as instructed by SAS: 1. Yacht Clubs will still issue accounts and members will still pay clubs exactly as in the past. 2. The member can then log into the database via the SAS website to complete his/her details and get his/her user name and password. 3. Once the member has done that, the regional administrator will then firstly confirm that SAS has received the membership money and then validate the membership by loging into the database as an administrator. 4. It is at this stage that the administrator completes the date field to indicate from when to when the membership is valid. This date must always be in line with the member s club financial period as in the past. The administrator also completes the type of membership to correspond with the amount received from the member. The administrator will further ensure that all family members are linked on the database. 5. Only once the membership has been validated by the regional administrator will the member be able to log in again and print his/her own membership card which will have his/her photo on if it was uploaded onto the system by the member. 6. Where members don t have access to the internet, the clubs will have to provide the regional administrator with the minimum details required for it to be captured under the bulk processing facility of the database. Minimum details being name, surname, date of birth and an address. 7. In cases where members can t print their own cards the clubs can be given access to allow them to print the cards. Alternatively the regional office can download and the cards to the club. 8. It is important to note that nothing has changed as far the way of working with the membership fees to the way it was done last season.
