1 COMMODORE S COMMENTS Once again, a number of club members will captain some great events. Plan to attend the MBC Dinghy Cruise, Pub Crawl and Dinner on The Milwaukee River on July 14 th. Dinner will be held at Botanas, 816 S. 5th St. Look for details in an e-blast from Captain Dave Dorner. On August 5 th, Dave Dorner will hold his Gunkhole Get Together at our Club Mooring. August 12 th, we will have The MBC Champagne & Cold Duck Party at the McKinley Pavilion, brought to you by Dick Harvey & Grey Halstead. The pavilion will be an excellent place to watch the Air Show. Because parking gets to be a hassle, and road access to the pavilion will be cut off sometime during the day, it is important that you try to arrive as early as possible. Mid-August, 17, 18 & 19 we have the MBC/SSYC Joint Cruise to Racine captained by Dick Harvey, Dick Grabowski & Greg Gegner. Watch for e-blasts from George on the Golf Outings and Donna on The Captain/First Mate lunch. I look forward to seeing you at these events. Have a great summer. Soda and beer will be provided by the club. After lunch, we'll cruise up the river with stops at local watering holes. Dinner will follow at: 816 S. 5th Street Milwaukee, WI 6:00 PM Please RSVP to ddorner@aol.com so we can make sure we have enough beer and soda and to let the restaurant know how many people will be having dinner. Dear Milwaukee Boat Club, Thank you so much for the beautiful plant that was sent in memory of my wonderful husband, Lou. We were members of the MBC for 41 years and have the most precious memories of all the activities and boating we did with the club. Many MBC members came to the funeral, and I certainly appreciate their sympathy. Thank you, MBC, for helping to make our lives complete. Shirley Weir 2

3 TROUBLE QUENCHING YOUR THIRST? SCUTTLEBUTT Pete & Bonnie Merryfield were pleased to announce at the LMYA Rendezvous that after six days of having listed their boat for sale, a buyer came up from Kenosha and bought it. Pete also was pleased to tell us that just a week before the boat was listed, he sold his beloved Classic Oldsmobile convertible. This has to be more than luck. Do you suppose a hug and flutter of eyelashes from Bonnie had anything to do with clenching these sales? Pete and Bonnie are now on the lookout for an open-bow i/o speedboat (approximately 18') with trailer for inland boating. Bonnie's brother Greg and his wife Debbi live on Fowler's Bay which empties into Tishigan Lake. They have a large pontoon, so when the Merryfields get their new speedboat, the two couples will be able to swap boats. Way to go! Last month Dick Schmidt smashed his hand helping Wayne get the dinghy ready for the Rock River Cruise. Well, it seems Wayne couldn t stand all the sympathy Dick was getting. So, as Russ Berg would say, guess what? Wayne did Dick one better. He says he accidently tripped (yea, right) while running. Not only is he now showing off a swollen hand, but it also includes a broken finger and six stitches to close a cut. What some guys won t do for a little sympathy! Do you have trouble quenching your thirst? Well, our ordinary drinking water is industrially treated, cleansed, and sent to us by pipes and tubes. It has been distorted, and the molecules have become clumped. Water molecules in this condition will not pass through our cell walls and therefore will not hydrate us. It merely irrigates us and leaves us thirsty. We need to restore our drinking water to a state that allows hydration of all our cells. This can be done easily and inexpensively with magnesium oxide crystals or pills that have been energized. Magnesium is a safe nutritional supplement that is used in emergency rooms for victims of cardiac arrest and stroke. Magnesium is grossly deficient in our diet due to depletion in our soils. Magnesium supports healing and regeneration, while soothing the nervous system and aiding in the production of amino acids. Many common problems thought to be associated with aging or normal processes may in fact be symptoms of chronic dehydration. With this supplement, you will find yourself drinking less and feeling well sated. Blood pressure is said to normalize, and your overall ph rises. When your body is more alkaline, it becomes inhospitable to cancer. Using these pills has left me feeling better than I have felt in a long time. I order mine from The sachets cost $18.00 each and will last for 1000 gallons of water. That should last a family two or three years. If you want to buy more they are $16.50 each for three or more. They come in a sachet that you immerse in a gallon or two of water. Each day you decant off what you ll need in drinking water that day, and refill the mother bottle. I keep mine in the refrigerator. This health hint has been composed to comply with our club purpose of exchange of information, and to promote healthy boaters who will more easily be able to promote safe and proper handling of small boats. Respectfully submitted, Denis A. Molloy 3

4 LMYA RENDEZVOUS For the second year in a row, the LMYA Rendezvous was held in Port Washington on June The Happels, Dave Risch and Nita Swartwout arrived by power boat, and the Halstead s and Dennis Molloy, Pat and Brad Moran by sailboat. The Mergeners arrived in their land yacht and stayed overnight in the parking lot next to the marina. Others came by car for the day or stayed in hotels. Friday night, 28 LMYA members enjoyed dinner in a private dining room at The Port Washington Hotel. Saturday morning, the Port Washington Yacht Club (PWYC) treated us to a continental breakfast. Commodore Jim Mergener gave a presentation on what has been happening with LMYA and a report on the government s study on the effect of ethanol on marine engines. In the afternoon, everyone did their own thing, some shopping and lunching while others relaxed on their boats. The big event was Saturday night. A delicious cookout was prepared by PWYC members with over 100 people in attendance, including 35 LMYA members. Dinner was followed by a silent auction with many gifts donated by MBC, SSYC, and PWYC. MILWAUKEE AIR & WATER SHOW This year neither the Blue Angles nor the Thunderbirds will perform, but do not despair. The Air & Water Show Coordinators have lined up a fantastic show. The main air event will be the Black Diamond Jet Demonstration Team. They will entertain us with four planes doing precision flying. Next will be the U.S. Air Force Air F-22 Raptor Aerial Demonstration Team. This should be a special treat. The Raptor is the world s only operational fifthgeneration fighter aircraft and combines the stealth design with supersonic highly maneuverable, dual engine technology. It provides America with the most equipped fighter aircraft. Also performing will be the U.S. Navy Leapfrogs parachute demo team and the U.S. Marine MV-22 Osprey Tilt Roto Demo Team. Add to this the U.S. Navy F/A -18 Super Hornet Demo Team, the P3 Orion, U.S. Air Force B1B Bomber and the U.S. Coast Guard HH-65 Rescue Helicopter. Plan to see this during our Champagne & Cold Duck Party August 12 th at the McKinley Marina. Wayne Happel The evening was topped off by entertainment from a two-piece band and extremely discounted bar drinks. Thank you, Commodore Jim & Sally Mergener, for all the work you did in making the arrangements for this event. The Lake Michigan Yachting Association sincerely thanks The Port Washington Yacht Club for their warm and friendly reception and their hospitality. We hope we will be invited back again next year.
