Also Safety plan on website is an essential read. winter rowing advice (from Hannah W) As everyone is aware, rowing on the water continues throughout the winter season. It is therefore important to ensure that all participants wear appropriate clothing for the conditions. Below are a few pointers to help make sure we all stay warm and dry on the river. It is important to remember that large bulky clothing is not allowed as this can impair your rowing training, and risk injury. It will also soak up large amounts of water so will not keep you warm, and in an event of a capsize could seriously hinder your ability to stay afloat.
4 It is better to wear a number of thin, tightly fitted layers. This allows air to be trapped between the layers and act as an insulator. It also means layers can be removed and replaced in response to the situation, to ensure you remain at a comfortable body temperature. In addition, modern fabrics are designed to wick moisture away from the body to stop chilling when exercise is stopped. Waterproofs are also important during the winter to keep dry; you'll all be aware that even when it isn't raining, it is likely you will get splashed during outings. It is important that any water does not reach your skin and lower your body temperature. It is important that the waterproof is suitable for rowing, and will not cause problems, as well as allowing perspiration through sweat to escape away from the body. A lot of heat is lost through the head, so a hat or similar is recommended during the winter months. Pogies or thin gloves can be used. Scarves however should not be worn, as they can potentially become entangled in the boat mechanisms. In addition to the kit you are wearing in the boat, you should always bring a complete set of spare clothes to change into. We are also lucky that we have warm shower facilities available which can be used to warm ourselves up, so it is recommended to bring a towel as well. Keep Warm! kit order Reminder that all adults wanting to compete and all juniors will need an all-in-one to race in. It takes six weeks or so to receive the kit from collation date so please ensure you order one if you are intending on racing this head season. TO ORDER: LET JOOLES KNOW BY THIS FRIDAY WHAT YOU WANT AND WHICH SIZE SO WE CAN GET THEM IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS.YAY!!! The Hi Viz long sleeve is available from amazon or similar product from aldi/lidel. membership/british rowing Reminder that all DERC members must be signed up to British Rowing (one of our rules) even parents, coaches and coxes. Members from other clubs need to list DERC as one of their clubs. Adults will need Gold membership to compete, the minimum membership requirement is Silver. If you have not completed a Membership form yet, please could you complete one and or print out and hand to Michelle Greenwood Those who are attending the L2R course have or will be signed up to British Rowing for three months and receive the Rowing & Regatta Magazine, after that you will have the option to join as Silver Members or Gold Members.
5 L2R Feedback Forms Please could all L2R participants complete a feedback form for us, Michelle will be handing/posting them out. This is very useful for us as a new club as we can learn how we can improve the course for the next group at Easter. We would also like to know what you want from the club now you have joined and what we might be able to do better.
