If you weren t able to follow our progress during that week, you can see our daily progress and pictures on our blog at In short, we had a great time with some frustrating moments. We felt that we were an equal match at times, but sailing against former Olympians and World Champions made small mistakes on our part become glaringly obvious. Overall, though, it was an awesome experience where we all felt like we became better sailors. We were all very proud to be representing Beaufort Yacht and Sailing Club. For me it was pretty incredible to participate at an event of this caliber with Emily (who was awesome) on the boat with us. We also had a club cheering section in the form of Frank, Marvin and Simon who all made the trip to Newport. This may well be an event that the club may want to apply for in the future. That being said, it requires a lot more planning, practicing, and commitment than we were able to give it this year. As far as I am concerned, a lot would be dependent on what boats they picked in the future for the races. The Melges was a very technical boat that requires most of us years of personal experience In order to become competitive. The New York Yacht Club at Harbour Court was a special venue with an even more special staff. The level of friendliness and hospitality we encountered was something I know our club exudes, so we felt right at home. The next event is in September 2018 perhaps we have a sail off to form our next team?? It is nice to be putting our awesome club on the national map. Any thoughts or ideas are welcome John Potter Commodore 10/22 High School Regatta 9am 10/27 Fall Member Meeting 6pm 10/28 Final Friday 6pm (Theme Okto-BOO-Fest) 10/29 Dataw Cup 9am
