1 Winter Newsletter 2012 From the Commodore Dear Members So soon it s winter again with the dark nights and with very few boats left in the Bay. Since the Autumn newsletter, in October we had the annual Presentation Dinner at the Bulkeley Hotel in Beaumaris with 55 members and guests attending. Our visiting commodore was Glen from the North West Venturers Yatching Club. Norma and Carolyn had worked hard on getting the trophies ready and engraved for the presentations and yet again they kept us amused with the funnies. Clearly a lot of work goes into the preparation for the awards presentation. The following morning at the AGM, a number of members commented that they enjoyed both the event and the food and a vote was passed on returning to the Bulkeley next year. I have now booked it for the 12 th October At the AGM we remembered John Lifton, who died this year, and we had a minute s silence to remember those members no longer with us. We also approved a small increase in subscriptions in the order of 10% for 2013 and hopefully they can be maintained at that level for a few years. The previous increase had been in Those of you who have been to the clubhouse recently will have noticed that new PVCu windows have been installed along its frontage and in the toilets and the exterior was repaired prior to repainting. The works have really spruced up the appearance. On November 3 rd we had the Halloween/Firework Party. Some of us were in fancy dress including a superb Incredible Hulk. We had a small fire outside the Clubhouse and members brought a wide selection of fireworks. We also lit Chinese lanterns. Thank you to Jim, our new Rear Commodore, and his wife, Linda, for their impressive catering, to all of you who brought fireworks, to Graham, Clare and the boys who trimmed up the club and everyone, including 1

2 bar and kitchen helpers who contributed to making it a successful first event in the winter programme. I hope to see as many of you as possible on 8 th December at our Christmas Party and on 16 th February for Dancier Mon. Both events are Bring a Plate. Best wishes to you all for Christmas and the winter period. Glenys From the Rear Commodore Our first social event went off with a Bang, being the Halloween and Bonfire Night Party, many attendees came in fancy dress and brought fireworks which we set off around a bonfire in one of our Barbeques. Gourmet cuisine of Jacket Potatoes with Chilli and Hot Dogs all went down well together with sandwiches and cakes for those of a milder disposition. The duck apple competition was a fun with the evergreen Hulk taking line honours, the makeup did not run, amazing. A good time was has by all. Hope to see you all at the next social event. 5 What no sailing? Who froze the water? Hi Happy Sailors, This is the time of year when I normally do not make a contribution to the Newsletter This year is different! For those of you sober enough to attend the A.G.M. - that is the meeting the morning after the annual presentation dinner; and those of you not chasing up lost items such as minibuses, commodores, clothes, handbags and flower holders I made a rather rash statement. I would try and sort out the club s archives, (before the history of the fairly young club was lost forever!). Although the reading up to now is far from dull, I am looking for photographs with accompanying names, stories, anecdotes, memories and so on plus the dates ish would help. They do not have to be way back when; everything is useful and will be immortalised by the computer. PLEASE, PLEASE HELP! I know that you all have wonderful tales to tell, especially over the bar, I would love to have them even without pictures. Thanks in hope... N.B.
