Message from the President - Hello and Happy New Year! I'm looking forward to the upcoming year as the President of our Club and hope to make it a memorable one for all of us. My first year as a club member (and membership chair), has been so much fun! There have been so many memorable experiences both in and out of the water, and I'm grateful for the amazing friendships that have been created. I'd like to encourage each of you to become a more active club member, and join us! If the activities don't appeal to your specific interests, let me know and we'll add more events into the mix. The club should be a fun experience for all members. It's my goal this year to spend time with each and every one of you beyond our once a month meetings. If we are not diving on a boat together, or if you are not joining us in one of our fun out-of-the-water activities, be prepared for me to you to invite you to lunch, dinner or maybe just a glass of wine! Of course I'd love to see you at our monthly meetings as well. Mark your calendar! To kick off the New Year, we are having a party on Friday, January 20th! Details are available on our Facebook page, and I'll be sending out an next week with information. The presidential inauguration seemed like a good parallel to our new board getting into place, and a great reason to spend time together. Any excuse for a party! I'd like to encourage all of our members to attend. It will be a casual dinner with a DJ for dancing... a fun way to start 2017! I'm looking forward to seeing you all soon! Dive safely! In my new function as Vice President, I look forward to assisting Patty, our new President, taking on whatever jobs and responsibilities she and the Board want to send my way. 3 Laguna Sea Dwellers - January 2017 Page 3 In case you missed it!: Here is what happened at the Club Holiday Party! 2016 HOLIDAY PARTY REVIEW 50 members and guests enjoyed a great LSD party on December 10 th 2016 at the NBTC. We had a delicious meal. Joe Liburdi loved the salmon and the sit down style dinner allowed for every-one to dine together and not have to wait in line> Thank you to the staff of the Newport Beach Tennis Club for the well decorated venue and excellent service. We had great music, dance and prizes from our sponsors and some nice donations from private members. Please thank our sponsors for their continued support. Khrystyna Santa and her elf Tonia (who both deserve a lot of kudos for organizing this party) made an energetic exercise out of the gift exchange and I heard a lot of good comments about our prospects for A small group danced the night away. First and most importantly Kevin and I would like to Thank everyone who participated in our Boat Trips this year. We have worked very hard to look into new areas for our 2017 boat trips and hope you will join in our on going adventures. For those of you that have not been on one of our trips, We personally invite you to join in the fun. There is a Whale Watching boat on January 28th and I hope to see you all take advantage of it. We have 50 spots and hope you will participate in our club events. Lots of people work behind the scenes to make these things happen and your attendance says As of this writing Farnsworth in February only has 3 spots left, Cortez Banks is SOLD OUT! but we have a waiting list, Our 2-Day San Clemente has 8 spots left. Keep in mind, those that book and pay first get first choice of bunks. Don t delay. March 25th we will be doing Wreck Alley on the Horizon, If you have never been on this boat I highly suggest it. All I hear about is Mark the cook and how amazing the boat is. We will most likely do the Tower and the Ruby E and hope that most of you join in our fun! This is a Dive Club not a Dart Club, so come diving with us. Meet at the top of the stairs at Shaw's Cove at 9am (where Fairview meets Cliff Drive)...then gear up soon after. You can hook up with Mark Sewell he will meet members at the stairs above Shaw s for an open dive. Have you gotten your DAN Insurance card yet? I have been a Member of DAN since 1984 and have never used it. I have had 2 of my divers who needed it and were glad that they had it. One had to be airlifted to a hospital from a sand bar out in the middle of the Coral Sea off Australia. He spent 6 days in intensive care and DAN picked up the whole tab and paid for 85% of his trip. The other had to be airlifted out from Socorro Island and rushed to Cabo San Lucas, where she received 4 of her 15 rides in the Chamber and again DAN was there. Something to think about, ask your fellow divers if they carry DAN insurance, I am sure that they all will say yes, and if not, ask why not!
