1 The Orange County Dive Club April 2017 LSD s Easter Egg Hunt is coming on Saturday, April 15th, do you know where your rabbit ears are? The wait is over, Laguna Sea Dwellers are planning their annual Easter Egg Hunt held at Shaw s Cove. Then the big BBQ at Heisler Park where all the prizes will be given out to the underwater egg hunters! Join in on the fun and get ready on the morning of the 15th and get your game bag ready. Rules and location of the eggs will be given out the morning of the hunt at Shaws Cove. Bring your dive buddies and see if you can win the great prizes that will be available! There will be a great BBQ at Heisler Park and food will be ready by time the divers get done at Shaws and then back to the Heisler park. Don t forget to bring your eggs back un-opened! Remember mark your calendar: April 15th, 2017 Saturday at Shaws Cove for the dives! BBQ will follow after dives at Heisler! Message from the President - Hey everyone! It's hard to believe it's already April and the year is flying by! Have you been diving much lately now that conditions are improving? We have some great Club events coming up and need your help. Although I realize everyone is busy and free time is limited, it would be really helpful if everyone could assist with one event this year. Right now we need some volunteers to assist with the Easter Egg Hunt. If you can donate a prize or help on the day of the event, please let us know. Are you interested in becoming more involved in the Club? We still have our membership position open and would love it if someone volunteered to help out. It only takes a few hours a month and gives you a chance to meet new friends/dive buddies. If you want more information, let me know! Lastly, it's membership renewal time! Since we don't have a membership chair and I'll be working on this, please renew early and don't make me you a million reminders. Auto pay through Facebook is a good option also. If you renew by April 30th, we'll put your name into a raffle to win two tickets to Disneyland! Thanks for your on-going support. I'm looking forwarding to diving with you soon! Dive safely! 3 Page 3 Laguna Sea Dwellers - April 2017 A dive word from the VP! I write this as we are about to leave for the Wreck Alley club dive trip Saturday on the Horizon. I am really looking forward to getting wet again, and my new 8 mil Henderson semi-dry suit. Later in the year, this is the boat that Kevin and Khrystyna have contracted for the exciting Cortes Bank trip. My biggest reason for writing at this moment is to get everyone excited about the Annual Underwater Easter Egg Hunt, which the flyer elsewhere in this newsletter spells out. Everyone, tell your friends about it, non-members are equally welcome. I would also like to hear from some of you who are hesitating, either about the Hunt, or helping with administration. Positions are open - contact me! It's always fun handing out prizes, for instance. Bruce McKeon, VP of "stuff" ANNOUNCEMENTS Club Mixers and Events for coming months: (Mixers are on 2nd Friday of every month) April 15th - Easter Egg Hunt & BBQ April 22nd - Kelp Fest Laguna Beach at Main Beach May 3rd - Chamber Day/Evening May 6th & 7th - Scuba Show Long Beach May 12th - Mixer at Campus JAX 3950 Campus Drive Newport Beach It s great to see new people that joined the club. Welcome to you all! Future Club Meeting Speakers April - Diane Alps May - June - Laguna Sea Dwellers Welcomes our newest members Rick Goldsmith Message from the Editor: We have several events this month and in the coming months. Ask your Board if you can help with any of these events! The Easter Egg Hunt and Kelp Fest are this month and the Board is asking for volunteers to step up and support your Club. The Kelp Fest is held in downtown Main Beach Laguna. We need Members to help at our table at the event. Ask Jane Martorana for information as to what is needed! If you have photos from past dives send them to me and I ll post them here in the Newsletter. Also, if you have hit a milestone in your diving, let us know. If you have reached your 100, 200, 500 dive or improved on your skills with an Advance Class! 4 Page 4 Laguna Sea Dwellers - April 2017 IN MEMORIAM Lauren Towle Once in a while we meet someone who is larger than life and makes an impression with a smile that lasts. Anita and I had the honor and privilege of meeting Lauren at our 20 th club a nniversary bonfire in Huntington Beach a nd she captured our hearts. March 19 th 2017 Few of us can fathom the challenges she overcame and the courage she possesses to live each day to the fullest, like traveling independently from Pasadena to Huntington Beach and back to share a few smores with us. She loves going up in elevators and escalating stairs with her friends, who she convi nces to carry her, to roof-tops of high-rises, discovering new vistas. At her life celebration she brought us to an oasis of beauty and relaxation in the middle of concrete and hectic downtown Los Angeles at the top of the historic Perching Square building. Her viewpoint on life is uniquely powerful. She is the artist who created our commemorative T-shirt. Please celebrate her life by keeping Lauren in your heart and memories, a nd wear your T-Shirt proudly! Life is what you celebrate. All of it. Even its end. Anita and Roeland

5 Laguna Sea Dwellers - April 2017 Page 5 In case you missed it!: Here is what happened at the March Meeting! The monthly meeting was run by our beloved Vice President Bruce McKeon and even though Memories by Joe Liburdi was missing, the VP did a great job. Our speaker, Keith Martin, the Southwest Regional Manager for AUP (American Underwater Products) gave us a historical and forward looking review of Hollis and Oceanic brands including lightweight regulators with emphasis on the importance of balanced first and second stages as well as new dive computers under development. For those who were paying attention there was a quiz at the end of the presentation which yielded a UAP low volume mask won by Michel Loignon. The meeting ended with raffling of some great LSD prizes, procured from Dive & Photo, Ludek s shop, who also carries the AUP products. Wish you were there? The rain is slowing and the water...hopefully will be a little warmer. Wreck Alley was a cheery bunch and it was great to see new and seasoned faces alike.
