2 P AGE 2 Hello Whalers, December 2013 PreSIDeNT S message Last month the General Membership voted in eleven Board members, some new, most returning. I was one of the eleven Board members elected. However, in the November Board Meeting, I did not seek to be President for a third year. Steve Roquemore will be the new Whaler Dive Club President for Congratulations Steve. Other Board election results and appointments are posted on page 7 in this newsletter. I want to thank everyone for the past two years for their help in taking the Whalers to new heights. We have had more members join and more member participation than we have had in recent years. The Club is strong, growing, and is on steady footing moving into the future. We have all done our part to make this so. We should all be congratulated. It is my hope that everyone continues to do their utmost, working with Steve as the new President. He has some great ideas for taking the Club into the future, and he has my full support in his effort to keep the Club moving forward and upward. I want to personally thank all of the Board members. It has been an honor working with you over the past two years. I have made new friendships and have strengthened others. As most of you know, Cheryl and I have moved to Redondo Beach. We will still be active in the Whalers, just not around as often. See you all at the meeting, Bruce

4 P AGE 4 It s hard to believe that 2013 is coming to an end already. It has been a great year for the Whaler s Dive Club as our membership has significantly increased this last year. At the beginning of January, the club had 49 members on the roster and as of today, we have 83. This growth is attributed to several factors, but most importantly it is due to the enthusiasm of the membership in promoting the Club to others while on club and non-club activities. I personally want to thank the membership for your support this past year and for electing me again to the Board. I am honored again to be serving as your Membership Coordinator next year and I look forward to continuing on the board in this capacity. We had a great turnout at the 50th Anniversary Banquet and the Annual Election meeting in November with 60 and 38 members and guests attending, respectively. Please check out the Banquet pictures on the website at. Our next meeting is December 4th at Coco s Restaurant. Please refer to the newsletter for details of our speaker for this meeting. Please welcome the following new members to the club: George Hass. Whaler Memberships that are expired or coming due: Karen Handy, Eva Barthel, Keith Biondi, Norm and Marilyn Deatherage, David Katz, and Trish Kolbeck. There are three easy ways to renew your membership: online at, at the monthly general membership meetings, or mail your renewal dues to the Whaler s Dive Club, P.O. Box 4283, West Hills, CA December Whaler Birthdays Bruce Amberger, Tina Brawner, Norm Deatherage, Kulwant Dosanjh, Sharron Levey, Menardo Mata, and Doug Tyler, Jr. Congratulations to the following Opportunity Drawing Winners at the Annual Banquet: DVD BASKET Steve Roquemore GOPRO HERO 3 CAMERA Trish Kolbeck TILOS AIRPORTERTOTE DIVE BAG Art Hill NAUTILUS LIFELINE MARINE RADIO AND GPS FOR DIVERS Michael Prentice TRIDENT 3.0 CU.FT.
