5 WELCOME RENEWING CHAMBER MEMBER Tahoe TV! noon Friday, September 10, 2010 at 7th Annual Village Grape Stomp & Vineyard Luncheon Village Rink, Northstar-at-Tahoe Sign your team up for this hilarious annual event. Teams of four stomp their hearts out trying to extract the most juice from the grapes. Team entry fee includes grape stomping, wine and beer tasting (included in the ticket price) and live music. The Northstar culinary staff is going all out on the luncheon. Please note: you must be 21 to participate in the grape stomp and wine tasting. 6 TNT-TMA BOARD SEAT VACANCY FOR KINGS BEACH-TAHOE VISTA AREA The Truckee North Tahoe Transportation Management Association Board of Directors is accepting letters of interest to fill a vacancy for the Kings Beach- Tahoe Vista Board Seat. Applicants must be residents of the Kings Beach- Tahoe Vista or represent a business located in the area. Preferred Qualifications include current employment or involvement in the transportation field, knowledge of regional and local transportation issues and commitment to the TNT/TMA s goal of improving air and water quality and economic stability through development of transportation resources. Board Members are required to attend monthly Board of Directors meetings, held the first Thursday of each month, typically at Granlibakken Resort and Conference Center in Tahoe City, 8:00 a.m., and they are encouraged to become involved in transportation-related issues. Letters of interest should be mailed to TNT/TMA Board, Attention: Jan Colyer, Executive Director, P.O. Box 7108, Tahoe City, CA or faxed to no later than October 1, 2010 for consideration at the October 7, 2010 Board of Directors meeting. WASHOE COUNTY SHERIFFS OFFICE HOSTS COMMUNITY PICNIC SEPT 11 The Washoe County Sheriff s Office (WCSO) will be hosting a Community Picnic on Saturday, September 11 th 10a.m. 12p.m. at the Incline Substation located at 625 Mt. Rose Highway. Please come and enjoy a complimentary barbeque and check out rescue equipment from both the Sheriff s Office and the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District

7 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR TAHOE FOREST STEWARDSHIP DAY AT THE NORTH TAHOE REGIONAL PARK SEPT 11 Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day combines field education with hands on forest restoration projects, fuels reduction, and trail restoration. A volunteer appreciation lunch will be provided to all along with a special guest speaker. All volunteers should wear sturdy shoes and long pants and bring a water bottle and snack. Tools are provided but volunteers who already have work gloves, hardhats, rakes, hand-saws and shovels are encouraged to bring them (no axes or chain-saws please). The District also seeks donations of native plants and other materials needed for the various projects that will be undertaken on this day. Thanks to an anonymous donor the North Lake Tahoe Historical Society is pleased to offer a Labor Day dinner cruise aboard the Tahoe Gal. This is a great way to relax with friends new and old after a busy summer. The cruise includes beautiful views, dinner, coffee and dessert. Please note: the cruise begins boarding at 5:30 p.m. and departs at 6 p.m. from the Tahoe Gal pier by the post office in Tahoe City. Tickets are not mailed for this event. 22 SPECIAL PROGRAMS & EVENTS TAHOE CITY PUD SUMMER/FALL PROGRAMS Programs and Activities Coming Up - Registration Still Open Learn How to Scuba Dive Open water diver certification and advanced certification are being offered through the TCPUD Parks & Recreation Dept. Dates are flexible and classes can be custom made to your schedule with target dates between August 20 and September 10 when Lake Tahoe is the warmest. Open water certification is $453 per person (includes equipment rental) and advanced certification is $195. For more information contact Wendy Wood at (530) or wendylwood@earthlink.net. Fall Kickball League Registration is now being taken until August 27. League play is Mondays at Conner's Field from September 13 through November 8. The fees are $200 for resident teams and $250 for non-residents. Men's Fall Call-Your-Own Basketball League Registration is August 16 through September 17. Games are Tuesdays at Rideout Community Center from October 5 through December 14. The fees are $350 for resident teams and $400 for non-residents. There is a managers meeting at Rideout on Thursday, September 23 at 6:30 pm. Coed Fall Call-Your Own Volleyball League Registration is August 16 through September 17. League play is Wednesdays at Rideout Community Center from September 29 through December 15. The fees are $225 for resident teams and $275 for non-resident teams. 26 BARK FOR THE PARK! BUY TICKETS BEFORE SEPT 5! The Tahoe City PUD is raffling off a new Giant Mountain Bike at the Sunday Concerts Series. Proceeds from the raffle will go towards the new Tahoe City Dog Park. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20 and available at the TCPUD booth. The winner will be announced at the series finale on Sept. 5. Special thanks to the Kiwanis of North Lake Tahoe and Chris Chapman (who won the bike at the Truckee Duckee Derbee and donated it back for animal welfare).

28 TOUR de TAHOE BIKE BIG BLUE SEPT 12 On Sunday, September 12, , bicycling enthusiasts from all over the country will participate in the 8th Annual Tour de Tahoe - Bike Big Blue around Lake Tahoe. This fun ride is not a race, but a tour and is fully supported offering spectacular scenery, fresh mountain air, rest stops with great food & beverage; and is staffed by volunteers from various organizations and professionally managed by experienced ride organizers. The event is supported by a grant from the Nevada Commission on Tourism. This year marks the first year participation of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation as their National Team Fundraiser Ride to Cure Diabetes. The registration fee for the 72-mile Tour de Tahoe course options will be $100 and The Lake Tahoe Boat Cruise & 35 mile Half Ride Fee is $115. Participants must be at least 14 years of age to ride and must be accompanied by an adult. For more information or call 775/ tgft@bikethewest.com JOHN REICHERT MEMORIAL CLASSIC CAR SHOW SEPT 11 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM at the Kings Beach State Recreation Area. This event is open to the public; both spectators and those that wish to show their cars. John Reichert was a member of the North Tahoe Public Utility District Recreation and Parks Commission who passed away in 2008 and was involved in the development of the Friends of the Park Fund. This fund goes to support capital projects in the North Tahoe Regional Park. Current fundraising is focused on raising money for a new children s playground. A BBQ benefiting the North Tahoe Public Utility District Friends of the Park Fund will be available during the show. Anyone wishing to show their car should contact Dave Shelton to RSVP at or tahoed@gmail.com There is no cost to participate, but a count of cars is important to determine the car layout in the parking lot.

29 CALIFORNIA TAHOE CONSERVANCY CELEBRATES 25 YEARS SEPT 16 Tahoe City s Commons Beach. It s a party that fittingly takes place on the shores of the very lake it works so hard to preserve, protect and enhance. This casual celebration will take place at Commons Beach and is free to the public. The event will run from noon 2 p.m., and will feature live music, food, speakers and commemorative gifts. Since its inception, the Conservancy has authorized over $450 million. During its first 25 years, the Conservancy acquired more than 4,700 properties and facilitated hundreds of resource enhancement and public access projects throughout the California side of the Lake Tahoe Basin. Commons Beach, the event venue, is one of the agency s signature projects Reservations are not required for the celebration, but RSVPs are appreciated. RSVP to shelly@switchbackpr.com or call (530) TAHOE BIG BLUE ADVENTURE RACE SEPT 18 This multi-sport event invites individuals and teams ranging from one to four members to compete in a 12-hour competition featuring eight miles of kayaking, a 24-mile mountain bike ride, and five to eight miles of trail running, orienteering, navigation and high-ropes skill disciplines along the beautiful shores of North Lake Tahoe. Defined by both the incredible beauty of Lake Tahoe and the towering peaks of the High Sierra, Lake Tahoe is one of the world s most famous sporting playgrounds. The region has an almost endless variety of spectacular mountain biking trails, adventurous hikes and, of course, waterborne activities on the Big Blue - Lake Tahoe - one of the largest, deepest and purest alpine lakes on earth.
