1 Vol MMXVII Palm Coast Yacht Club January-February 2017 New Smyrna Beach Cruise The PCYC fleet is going to the New Smyrna Beach 55th Annual Art Fiesta on Saturday, February 18, and Sunday, February 19, at Old Fort Park, New Smyrna, Beach FL. Boaters and non-boating members of PCYC are invited to join us. They should contact the event captain, Bob or rbescher2535@gmail.com if they plan to drive down to New Smyrna Beach and join us in the planned activities on Saturday and/ or Sunday. Reservations for eight boats have been made for Saturday and Sunday nights at the New Smyrna Beach City Marina. The boats should arrive after noon on Saturday. We will have a grill ready for cooking at 5:00 pm (we eat first in the shelter, the regular residents use it after us). Bring something to grill and a dish to share, plus your plates, silverware and drinks. On Sunday morning the members can attend the art show that opens at 9:00 am. Linda Osborn did a fantastic job during the two years she served in this position. She has graciously and frequently offered to provide me any help she can. I ve thanked her for that and put her number on speed dial. I think we ve finally found our rhythm at our Friday dinners at Pine Lakes. We take time to mingle leisurely and perhaps have a beverage before finding our seats for dinner. Those who are in a hurry know they can order early and get their meals in a timely Social Activities manner. The food has been tasty and we can look forward to some different dishes, as the chef is working on a new menu. We have become such a welcome part of The Pub crowd that we have been asked to let them know if there are dishes that we really enjoy and don t want to see disappear. You can also let me know if there are items that you would never order again, and I will pass along that information too. Well, it turns out that joining PCYC was one of the best things we ve done since moving to Florida. We ve made dear friends, enjoyed fun cruising excursions and gained knowledge of ICW boating from many of you. As I step into the role of Commodore, one of my goals is to show the community what I ve learned over the past few years: that this club is a welcoming place. PCYC has undergone tremendous changes over the last two years. I applaud Candy and the rest of the board for helping us gracefully navigate those treacherous waters so that we could end up in the tranquil sea where we now sail. Our finances are in good shape. I will work to keep them that way. I believe we have a fun and active group. I will work to continue the good times. PCYC has begun to evolve into a different, and I think more viable, club. I will work to carry on that evolution. I have a wonderful board to work with and I am encouraged by the way the membership has supported the previous board. I have received many notes and words of support, so I am confident I can count on all of you to help in the months to come. Let me know if there is something you don t like. Let me know if there is something you do like. Please join us for dinner and other activities as often as your schedule allows. And invite potential members to join us. Linda Osborn, 2016 PALM COAST YACHT CLUB HOLIDAY BOAT PARADE MEETS RECORD FOR 30 BOATS PARTICIPATING Vice Commodore Fireworks and bagpipes saluted the 31st annual Palm Coast Yacht Club Holiday Boats

Seuss figures, giant toys, glittering Christmas Trees, and more over-the-top decorations sailed past hundreds of cheering spectators in what many called the most memorable parade in Palm Coast

The Parade was accompanied by boats from the Flagler County Sheriff s Office, Tow Boat U.S., the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary of Palm Coast.

Linda Osborn, 2016 PALM COAST YACHT CLUB HOLIDAY BOAT PARADE MEETS RECORD FOR 30 BOATS PARTICIPATING Vice Commodore Fireworks and bagpipes saluted the 31st annual Palm Coast Yacht Club Holiday Boats Parade on December 17 as thirty boats glided down the Intracoastal Waterway while hundreds lined the shores celebrating with parties and music. Boats laden with thousands of lights, Dr. Seuss figures, giant toys, glittering Christmas Trees, and more over-the-top decorations sailed past hundreds of cheering spectators in what many called the most memorable parade in Palm Coast history. A nearly full moon soared over the parade route under perfect weather conditions. Fireworks exploded as the parade passed by, lighting up the sky. The Parade was accompanied by boats from the Flagler County Sheriff s Office, Tow Boat U.S., the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary of Palm Coast. Registered boats gathered in Cimmaron Basin at 6 p.m. and headed east to the Intracoastal Waterway where the Parade turned south passing Tidelands, Canopy Walk, St. Joe Walkway, Waterfront Park, and Island Estates, before turning at the Grand Haven Gazebo and returned back to Clubhouse Waterway More Pictures of The Parade on page 6 Social Report (Continued from page 1) at least one special event each month. For the month of January, it will be the Change of Watch. Birthday and anniversary celebrations will generally be on the third Friday of the month. I hope you will share with me any ideas you have for fun ways we can enjoy each other s company. I will work with Fleet Captain Mike Norris to make sure the land fleet is included in boating activities as much as possible. Finally, I invite those of you who have not joined us for a while to come be a part of the re-invented Palm Coast Yacht Club. We now have a duel level annual dues structure; $85.00 for new members and members joining after January 1, 2016 and $ for members as of December 31, This duel structure acknowledges the existing member s responsibility for taxes on the interest income on the note taken as part of sale of the facility. Financially the Club ended the year with all our bills paid and a strong operating cash position. Welcome New Members Most of us know Mark and Paula Lewis from other boating organizations i.e. Matanzas River Yacht Club and MTOA. Well now we can enjoy their company even more as PCYC's newest members. Mark and Paula moved to Palm Coast last year from Villa Park, California. Mark is a retired electrical (digital) engineer. He and Paula met at Rockwell International Corporation where they were both working. Long time boaters, they would often cruise to Catalina Island and the Channel Islands. Their 40 Kong & Halvorsen Island Gypsy Trawler named Finesse is now docked in Palm Coast... but first they cruised to Ensenada, Mexico where their trawler was loaded into a freighter and shipped to Ft. Lauderdale! Mark and Paula are now enjoying life in Florida and East Coast boating dues will be billed shortly; payments should be sent to our PO Box or delivered to myself. Your BOG will be considering setting aside a reserve to cover expenses, in the unlikely event it is needed. My personal best wishes for a Happy and Healthy New Year! See you at dinner.
