2 Hi PRESIDENTS Everyone. REPORT Well Christmas is done and dusted for another year. We only had 2 days of car parking cancelled which wasn t too bad. All in all it was a great success raising much needed funds. Great work everyone now bring on Easter. Australia Day is around the corner as I write this it is gearing up to be an absolute wonderful family day for Noosa and surrounds. The bushfires have caused great devastation to our beautiful country with many Lions Clubs losing their clubhouses. We have two tins now available for appeals so our first one will be to help bushfire victims. Which will be at the Australia Day event. The Australians Lions Foundation has made an emergency donation of $10,000 to the appeal, so hopefully we can add to this. Our breakfast clubs are starting back in February so I do hope everyone will still volunteer to help both Noosaville and Tewantin schools. I have some hamper food that everyone is still bringing to our dinner meetings to share out with 2 chaplains of which they are most appreciative. Thank you for ever thing you are all doing. Reports for Pelican Brief. Car Parking. The Good News: We parked 5,683 cars at Christmas at an average of over 400 cars each day.

The Even Better News: We do it all again at Easter starting on Good Friday (25 March 2 weeks after Festival of Surfing) and finishing on Sunday 3 April.

3 Reports for Pelican Brief. Car Parking. The Good News: We parked 5,683 cars at Christmas at an average of over 400 cars each day. There was great support from the Club with 40 members doing at least one shift. Well done team. The Even Better News: We do it all again at Easter starting on Good Friday (25 March 2 weeks after Festival of Surfing) and finishing on Sunday 3 April. Bill Battilana was equal in numbers but bringing a hammock and leaving the work to Louise ruled him ineligible. Social Committee. Dave touched on Conventions at our last meeting and the one we should make a 100% To attend is Mooloolaba, the Convention will be held in October 2016.You will hear more when Dave returns. Nominations was touched on also at our last dinner meeting. These elections are for floor members to have the opportunity to elect the President, 2 VPs, Secretary, Treasurer, and up to 6 Board Members. Build our Lions Legacy Brett s Homecoming Our club has been involved with Wesley Care since it began operating some three years ago. We have shown our support in many different ways including helping staff raise funds at Bunning's barbeques and visiting residents

6 It is good to have you home Brett One of the first residents, Brett, has just had a long 6 months away from his home. Initially illness took him to Nambour hospital but the stay was then extended due to issues relating to his post hospital placement. Finally he came back to Wesley Care late in December and a welcome home party was arranged for January. About 20 people met at Wesley Care on Tuesday 12th for lunch. It was a happy occasion buoyed by the fact that as Carol, Brett's mum said he is so happy to be back and is thriving here. The party was greatly enhanced by the music, and company, of Mick Lindsay and Ryan Giles (pictured here with Brett). They made a great team even though they had just met on the day. It will be good to hear them both at our Australia Day celebrations. WHO s WHO Thank you Janelle for writing this article on yourself Janelle Elizabeth MacDonald. I was a war baby and didn't meet my dad until I was four years old when he returned from serving with the RAAF. Sydney was a great place to grow up and we spent lots of time at our beach house on the NSW Central Coast. As teenager I studied Speech and Drama gaining diplomas from AMEB and Trinity College which gave me the opportunity to perform on the stage. I also studied singing at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and gained a love of

7 musical theatre. During the 60s I worked and travelled in the UK and Europe for the Australian Government using my secretarial skills. On my return I married and set up home in Perth where our two girls were born. In 1975 we relocated to Canberra where I taught Speech and Drama and administrated the Australian National Eisteddfod for over twenty years. I joined Sing Australia and have been able to tour with the group to Italy, Turkey, Canada and Vietnam. Since coming to live here in paradise two years ago, I have taken up Thai chi and joined the Lions club. I am enjoying serving the community and meeting lots of new friends. Youth of the Year starts at 6-30pm 16 February 2016 Our club has participated in the Youth of the Year Program for many years and it is an Australia wide program. The schools we cover are Good Shepherd Lutheran College and St Teresa s College. Noosa Heads club caters for Sunshine Beach High and Cooroy/Pomona Noosa High Schools. It is open to students of 16 years and above and is in the form of a series of interviews by our judges and a public speaking event held at our 2nd dinner meeting in February. From here the winner goes onto Zone finals, District, state and then to national finals. The public speaking is in the form of a 2 minute answer to 2 impromptu questions set by the judges on a range of current topics. A 5 minute speech, topic of their choice is given and both are judged by our 3 judges who are taken from a wide range of professions. The program was designed to encourage, foster and develop leadership in conjunction with other citizenship qualities in our youth. By emphasizing these qualities it hopes to provide outstanding role models for the youth of Australia and overall increase in confidence of young men and women. The program is sponsored nationally by the NAB which has nothing to do with club finals but assists at the national level. Our club has always had a member of the local NAB on the judging panel. Our judges this year are Karen Parry (NAB), Sandy Bolton (Noosa Council) who was a judge last year and asked to do it again this year and Corrie Connors (Principal Tewantin State School). It is vital that club members and their spouses attend this night and support our youth. Sally is a committed, enthusiastic person, and at 18, at the beginning of her working life. Growing up on a farm, working in Black Ant restaurant, her certificate courses in year 12 at Noosa High School and a dedication to martial arts has given Sally a passion and commitment to always do her best and achieve what at times seems difficult. Sally shared her passion and captured the audience as she talked of her values and beliefs, dot pointed below:

First up thank you for all of the excellent editorials leading up to Australia Day Festival 2016.

10 First up thank you for all of the excellent editorials leading up to Australia Day Festival We had heavy rain the night prior flooding parts of the park which resulted in the council & committee moving the ceremony & entertainment to The J. Organisers were ankle deep in water at 6am in the morning & a decision needed to be made. The ceremonies went off without a the J. Then the sun came out in all its glory & we made the call to take the festival back to Lions Park to the awaiting crowds who had been reading editorials about the festival in the park prior to the event. It was a huge effort particularly for Krossfire Entertainment Sound engineer Zac who had to set up twice that day. The Musos did it with a smile with the result of more than a thousand people being entertained & having a blast. Twisted Mr gave out way in excess of 350 balloon animals. Andino the Magician kept hundreds enthralled with his magic tricks and there were many with painted faces by Jude & Holly's hair art creations walking around the park...happy, happy faces. Classic cars had many fans whilst the Rotary & Lions Food vans kept the crowds fed. The only down side was that we were unable to have many of the planned activities due in the main to safety issues with the damp conditions. A big thank you to absolutely everyone involved in this event...the Noosa Council, Tewantin Noosa Lions Club, Noosa Heads Rotary Club, the entertainment & activity contingent & of course the media & public who supported us.
