PRESIDENT S REPORT Hi Everyone little sum to donate. Well once again we have been blessed with perfect weather for an extra car park this year for the Food and Wine Festival. We made a nice Thank you once again to Paul for organizing it and everyone for manning it. We are coming up to our changeover which means my end of term as President. We are almost finished helping Grant tidy up his house and yard which a lot of people have helped do. Our next clean up will be at Lola s so listen out for when. She makes yummy sandwiches so I don t think we will have any problems getting help. Not much to say this month. Thank you for everything you do. President Di Look at our web site...
Lions World Presidents Message President Dr Jitsuhiro Yamada Dear Lions, In your community, what does a dollar get you? In Italy it might be a cappuccino, in Japan it might be one nigiri, in the US it might be a piece of candy. But did you know that same dollar can cover the cost to immunize a child against measles for life through Lions' One Shot, One Life initiative? Every day more than 400 children lose their lives due to measles, and many others suffer severe complications. Measles is a highly contagious disease, so much so that when one person has measles, 90 percent of those they come in contact with will become infected if they have not been vaccinated. Through LCIF's partnership with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, we have the opportunity to help prevent such outbreaks and save lives all around the world. This year, to celebrate World Immunization Week, LCIF invites you to join the conversation on Facebook, Twitter, and the LCIF Blog. Messages will highlight the ongoing worldwide health concern of measles and how Lions are mobilizing communities and financial support. A valued supporter of LCIF's measles initiatives and an incredible member of our community, we need your help to eliminate this preventable disease. Please support LCIF by making a gift to the One Shot, One Life Lions Measles Initiative. Remember, just one dollar can save a life. Sincerely, Joe Preston LCIF Chairperson Lions Youth Exchange SEEKING HOST FAMILIES. - Please CONSIDER HOSTING A YOUTH IN 2016, make it a CLUB PROJECT. You don't have to be a Lion to Host a youth but you must be Sponsored by a Lions Club, as it is a Project of Lions International. It is a requirement for hosts to have a BLUE CARD if hosting a Youth under the age of 18.
List of Youth looking for host families in Australia during JULY & AUGUST 2016 ( issued 23rd March 2016) NOTE TO YOUTH OF THE YEAR CHAIRMAN; Please mention our Youth Exchange Program at your club Youth Of The Year judging as this is where we get most interested youth enquiring about our Youth Exchange program. Judith Letchford 201Q4 Youth Exchange Chair Ph Membership Report It has been a busy year with new members wanting to join Lions and let s look at these people who have decided to join Lions, The extra pairs of hands do count. Frank Spano Barney Davidson Barb and Gary Elliott Denise and Allan George Anna Skaring Peggy Watt Janelle Ahmajani Camille Morrison EzekieMelliza Karl Kunkel- transfer from Sydney Greg and Amy Gibson - transfer from Broome WA Ezekiel Melliza-Amy son Broome Those that will be leaving us. Peter Hallman - transfering Anna Skaring going to Sweden Mike Reid, Ian Thomas, David Kumeta still overseas Helen Hatter, Liz Conroy We are now operating a friends for Lions were you may leave Lions and wish to stay on our mailing list in case there are projects they may wish to be involved in. They can come and give us a hand providing they sign in & off. They are covered for insurance purposes. On the 3 rd of May President Di Cooke inducted Peggy Watt in to Tewantin Noosa Lions Club Lion Chris Pullin was her Sponsor. Hope you spend many years enjoying Lions Peggy
Induction of Camille Morrison was to be carried out on the 17th May but unfortunate she had an accident and will be inducted on 7 th June Membership Chair...Ian SOCIAL ACTIVITIES Report from Committee Chair, Paul Wine & Food Parking This was a real bonus for Lions. We parked over 400 cars in two days and it went off without any problems given the short notice thanks to the volunteers and Cooroy Camphor Laurel. The Council were also very cooperative considering they received no financial benefit. Alesha Gooderham, a Director at Noosa Food & Wine told me in an Many thanks for your incredible support. I think having the Lions Club at Lions Park was a great asset. The event was very successful and if they have a similar format next year and require parking, I m sure we can put it on our calendar. The Board approved disbursement of funds raised to the Australian Lions Foundation and the Australian Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation. Social Committee Movie Day. The ladies apparently enjoyed their movie Florence Foster Jenkins. All about a rich sheila who can t sing. Riveting!! Real Men s Club The inaugural meeting of the Real Men s Club was held on the deck at the Reef Hotel on a perfect Noosa day overlooking Laguna Bay. After lunch, the following positions were elected. President Bill; Secretary Chris P; Treasurer Maca; Public Relations Paul. No more positions were filled as there were no more Real Men present. Peter O arrived late and will be considered for membership next year. The drinks certainly improved once the Flick Chicks joined the Real Men at the Reef Hotel
Barefoot Bowls Well, you have waited all year for this this event closes off the social year and must not be missed based on past reports. When: Time: Where: Cost: Bring: Sunday 19 June 2.00pm Tewantin Noosa Bowls Club?? (TBA but cheap) Your sense of humour. Be there or be round (like a bowl geddit!) Cheers Paul (Social Committee CIC) The power of Facebook. To illustrate how far and wide the reach of Face-book is, consider this...at 8.43pm on Saturday evening, a photo was posted on the Lions District 202F South island NZ Face-book page. By 10.30am on Sunday morning, 198 people had viewed the post. By 1.14pm on Sunday afternoon 512 people had viewed the post. By 8.43 pm on Sunday night, 24hours after the post was first put up, 864 people had viewed the post. That s an average of roughly one view every two minutes. Not all the people who have viewed the post are Lions from District 202F, and just as important to mention, not all the people who have viewed the post are Lions. Where else can we reach as many people, in such a short period of time, and on a weekend no less. Thank you 202F This type of thing has been talked about at our Dinner Meetings and Training Day. I believe Mark Shelton is our person who may be looking at our website and would like to improve it. Thanks Mark. Together we can achieve Anything

Carmen Hackshaw Raised in Tarras (near Queenstown) Central Otago, New Zealand. One of five children, we had a wonderful upbringing on a sheep station, now owned by my brother. I went to boarding school in Dunedin for 6 years, when I left school I did a secretarial/admin course. The most useful thing I learnt there was how to type. For the next 8 years I had various jobs from working on the family farm, barmaid, office admin to becoming a potter. I did a 2 year OE during this time also. During my time learning to make pottery & working on the family farm I met my husband John who was shearing sheep in our district. 18 months later we were married at the Cardrona Hotel near Lake Wanaka. 9 months later we opened our own pottery on a busy highway near Palmerston North in the North Island. During the next 18 years we had 2 children, 4 dogs & several cats, made 6 tons of clay a year into dinner sets, coffee cups, teapots etc, until pottery was no longer viable. We closed the pottery and opened a concrete paving business, making & selling the tiles from our pottery site. We then sold the tile business in Sanson, leased out the buildings & moved to Wellington to make more concrete tiles. We stayed there for 18 months, didn t like the big city so sold this business also. Next move was to Wanganui a beautiful city on the west coast of the North Is. John & I both had interesting careers here. John worked for the Dept. of Corrections managing a concrete factory to give prisoner s work skills and I became a Honda & Nissan car sales person. Our daughters did their secondary education here and we enjoyed our time in the river city.
Eight years later we got the call to move to Australia to look after my parents Allan & Margaret Jolly, by this time our youngest daughter Hannah had just finished school and was on her own adventure so we sold up & moved to Tewantin 4 years ago. 6 months later we purchased our fire protection business FCF Fire & Electrical, John has reinvented himself & became a fire safety advisor/technician, I have learnt all about Qld fire standards and run the office. We enjoy working together again & we love living in Noosa. Projects coming up so look for the Rosters Please BBQ at Bunnings Noosa Festival of Waters last weekend in June. Grant Linkhorn Next working bee Saturday Cooroy Car Club assist with food van If you are free on the 22 June Pomona-Cooroy Lions Club are having their change over at the clubs Den.
