1 ISSUE 11 MAY/JUNE 2017 Newsletter proudly supported by Finance & Insurance made easy And sponsors PMTC Newsletter Hi All, Welcome the end of year wrap up. We hope you have had a great season and that you accomplished all you set out to do. We have had some fantastic results from you guys, representing the club far and wide across the Country, and congratulations to those making their way overseas to participate in World Championships events of IM and If you couldn t make it to the presentation night, we have included the presentation with this drop, so you can see what s has been going on within our triathlon community. Now for some thank you s.. Firstly I would like to thank you for the support you have given me and the hard working committee, without Page 1 of 8
2 which the club can t function. Also to our sponsors, which without your generous contributions, we could not keep our membership fees so reasonable, our equipment in good order, and our post-race fruit to every race. Cheers to our volunteers too who have helped out at each race, and the Mums and Dads who ferry the juniors about. Good luck to you if you re continuing to race in the next few weeks, and if you re continuing to train over winter, please be careful on the roads, and make sure you can be seen. We want to see you back for the Duathlon series at the end of July. Well its been a pleasure to be your President and hope you will continue to support the next one. We welcome you to our AGM on 6th June at Westport Club. If you wish to be more involved in the running of your club, then you should attend. All positions are vacant, and it s the continuing evolving committee that keeps the club vibrant and fresh. Feel free to approach any of us to get more information on what s involved. Best wishes Dave THE CLUB AGM will take place on 6 th June at Westport club at 6pm. Please note that a number of committee members will not be standing for re-election, and of course the club cannot run without the committee, so if you are able to provide your help in running the club please consider taking one of the spots available Duathlon Series It hardly seems possible but the Duathlon series is almost upon us again, the races will be as follows Race 1 Sunday 25 th June Race 2 Sunday 30 th July Race 3 Sunday 27 th August Details will be posted to the Facebook page nearer the time, but expect registration to be between 6.30am and 7am for race starts at 7.15am Harry Jones is going overseas to his native Wales for a few months to race in the British Triathlon season there. We wish him all the best and note this now provides a great opportunity for someone to take the Duathlon crown. Thank you to our 2016/17 Club Committee Club President David Craddock Vice President Dean Cohen Secretary & equipment/shed manager John Tracy Treasurer Alison McKinnon Uniform & Racewear Coordinator Tanya Porto Publicity Officer Simone Plews Sponsor Coordinator Mick Maher Duty official Deb Cohen & Rachel Sanderson Page 2 of 8

Plenty of standout performances and always good to see fellow Club Members out on the course. For once Port Macquarie laid on some superb weather conditions, creating a great race experience for all involved. As a result of our endeavours we picked up the Division 2, 2 nd Place award for the 2 nd year in a row, so congratulations to all competitors and Volunteers. Although there were some changes to the weekend regarding pre and post-race activities, the races themselves went very well. Congratulations also to the Junior Members of the Club who competed in the Ironkids event and the Friday evening fun run. Page 3 of 8

8 This is the final Newsletter for the Season in review the Club has seen a number of changes over the past year, Club Champs being relocated to Orange, a couple of our local races being cancelled due to adverse weather conditions and also in members competing from one race to the next. Essentially the club cannot function successfully without the support of the members and the commitment of some of those members in giving their time to be active in the committee and help organise, make decisions and run the club. This is by and large done by those individuals love of the sport, but is often made more difficult by members whose view is what can the club do for me rather than what can I do for my club. As someone who joined PMTC in 2015, I took an active role in the committee for the season and this season. I have been involved in competitive sport for more than 27 years and have served on committees of various sports clubs and one thing I can state with complete conviction is that a club of any type is only as strong as the unity of its members. As a club we should support each other, including in training, but the club cannot and will not continue successfully whilst there are members who are only content to complain without offering solutions. There have been numerous incidents this season where members have fed back their grievances informally, for matters such as the free barbeque not being up to their liking, or volunteering for just one race being inconvenient, or the race calendar not being enough value at $7.50 per race, as examples of actual issues this season, with absolutely no consideration for protocol (ie going through the proper channels) or desire to rectify things themselves because they are not on the committee (or worse are but don t regard it as their responsibility to do anything other than complain). Triathlon is a fairly individual sport, where essentially you are racing for yourself, so unlike football for example if you have a bad day in triathlon this only really impacts you rather than the rest of the team. In the back end of the club however it s a different matter, so members who bitch and moan about things like those aforementioned or how things are run, to you people I say; you have a choice. If you really don t like things do something to change it join the committee and genuinely help run the club and make it better or, in the words of Lance Armstrong quit your bitching Next season I will be unable to fill the position of sanctioning (without which no one races) or writing the newsletter simply because I have other commitments which means that I cannot give this the time required, and I will not do a half-baked job. So it is on this note that I hope someone continues the newsletter in the manner it was conceived; to provide insight into what the club and members are up to and keeping everyone informed, and with the hope that the derision and sniping comes to an end and we function and race for each other and the club as the entity that wins the recognition we deserve. Signing off.. Paul Martin Page 8 of 8
