2 Clubs Policies & Information Enrollment Enrollment for Passport Clubs is on a first come, first serve basis. Many clubs do fill quickly! If a desired club is full, your child will be put on a wait list, if the club is listed, please the Program Director (passport@cambridgemontessori.org) to be placed on the wait list. Names will be added in the order they are received. If a club does not meet the minimum required enrollment, it may be cancelled. These decisions will be made based on enrollment one week prior to the start of the club. You will be fully refunded in the event of a cancellation. Payment and Pick-Up FULL PAYMENT FOR CLUBS MUST BE RECEIVED ALONG WITH YOUR REGISTRATION IN ORDER FOR YOUR CLUB PLACEMENT TO BE PROCESSED. Please note that your all outstanding Passport fees must be paid in full in order to be eligible to register. At this point in time we are unable to apply financial aid or sibling discounts to clubs. Please note that payment for Passport Clubs is non-refundable due to absence, illness or change of heart. Any cancellations must be received one week prior to the start of the club program in order to receive a full refund. Following the end of the school day, a Passport staff member will walk students to their club. Children registered in extended day following the end of a club will be taken to their assigned group. It is important that you pick your child up on time. If you are more than 5 minutes late, your child will join extended day and extended day drop in fees will apply. Please note that we will only dismiss your child to persons authorized through the CMS Family Directory. Please be sure to update this information accordingly at the start of each club session. Communication Please ensure that you provide a valid address at the time of registration - communication regarding clubs is done through our online registration system . You will receive an automated confirmation through our online system once your registration has been processed. A second will follow in the days prior to the start of clubs regarding pick up information and club specific details. Cancellation If your child s club is cancelled on its scheduled day we will do our best to give you as much notice as possible to arrange for pick up. We will also try to arrange a make-up class for the end of the session, although this is not guaranteed. Questions? 4 Primary Clubs Monday Swim Lessons at MIT Students will learn basic swimming readiness skills such as bubble blowing, floating on back with assistance and underwater exploration. Students will be split into group depending on their experience in water. This class is taught by certified American Red Cross swimming instructors, Passport staff will drive students to the pool using the CMS bus and will remain with them for the duration of the class. Remember to pack a separate bag with swimsuit, towel and goggles for your child! Pick up is at 5:45PM at the Primary Building. Location: MIT Zesiger Center Pool Pick up location: Toddler Primary Building Pick Up: 5:45PM Adventures at Sea with Little Scholars LLC Ahoy, Matey s.let s set sail on an adventure into the world of mermaids and pirates. Treasure hunts, sand castle building, and mystical ocean discoveries await our pirates and mermaids. This adventure will dive deep into the music, arts, language development, and social skills-just don t tell the pirates! Tuesday Gymnastics with Knucklebones Knucklebones Gymnastics offers a unique twist for your beginning gymnast. Using age appropriate equipment and fun techniques, your child will gain creative and rhythmic movement, flexibility, fundamental gymnastics and gross motor skills. Exploring various apparatus including beam, high bar, rings, mats, mat shapes (cylinder, wedges, humps, etc), spring board, and trampolines along with unique products such as Gonge balance sets, polyspots, and Action, your child will progress with introductory skills while having fun! Knucklebones prides itself on engaging children through cooperative play in a carefully designed circuit of gymnastic activities.
5 Wednesday WONDERGYM with Ibrahim We are very excited to welcome back Ibrahim to our Extended Day Program. This 9-week club is an extension of the CMS Physical Education and Movement program. Children will be introduced to a number of traditional and non-traditional games while integrating a variety of fun equipment and materials. Children will learn the basics of different games, as well as improving motor skills, coordination and spatial awareness. Puddlestompers Winter Wonders Come explore nature after school! Follow animal tracks in the snow and search for animal evidence! Build hibernation dens and learn who is still out and about! Practice sneaking and pouncing like a fox! Collect pinecones for hungry squirrels! Touch fur, feathers and bones, and dissect owl pellets! Join us and discover new and AMAZING creatures and plants with handson exploration, active investigation, crafts & games. We will be outside and running while we learn about the world around us, as much as temperatures allow. 6 Martial Arts with Knucklebones Knucklebones Martial Arts is a great way to help develop self- discipline, confidence, and coordination. The program will focus on introductory martial arts skills, proper stance, and breathing as well as increase strength, agility, and flexibility. Through direct instruction and activities that inspire eye/hand coordination, concentration, balance, and fun the martial arts class will motivate all participants. No special strength or abilities are needed, allowing everyone to excel. Friday Yoga for Kids with J-9 Yoga It is never too early to start practicing yoga! We will learn child-friendly yoga poses, songs, breathing exercises and calming techniques are incorporated into this 60-minute yoga class for children between the ages of 4 and 7. Children are natural yogis; they have a blast exploring their new moves while building strong body and breath awareness, cooperative skills, and self-confidence. Instructor Janine Duffy is a mom of three energetic boys is thrilled to share her talents again this semester at CMS. Namaste, kids! Pick Up: 4:00PM Creative Builders Calling all inventors, builders, and designers; come and build some awesome creations with us! We will create our own designs and make structures using Legos, recyclable materials, and many other interesting items. Skills necessary: none! Skills gained: communication, problem solving, reasoning, developing creativity, and team work.
7 Elementary Clubs Monday Stop-Motion Animation With movies like Frozen, Inside Out, and Zootopia, animations have never been more popular. This Empow Studios class takes one form of animation, Stop-Motion Animation, and teaches kids how to create their own animated mini-movies through storyboarding, filming, and post-production. Materials like clay and paper are used to create characters, backgrounds, and props. Children work in pairs and depict their stories to show setting, rising action, conflict, and resolution. Once characters and backgrounds are made, students use computers, webcams and animation software to bring their stories to life! Movies are available to take home to share with family & friends. Learn more about Empow Studios at Location: Middle School Building Class starts: 3:45PM Pick up: 4:45PM Scratch Computer Programing Ages: Upper EL Scratch the surface of programming with Scratch! Developed by M.I.T, the Scratch platform is one of the most engaging ways to teach kids to code. Students learn the basics of computer programming by arranging puzzle-like blocks into lines of code in a drag-&-drop graphical interface. Possible projects include video games, animations, simulators, and even role-playing games. After the class, projects are shared with family and friends, and kids can continue to work on their projects from home. Internet access desired. 8 Tuesday Drama Club Ages:LE2+ Drama Club will continue from the Fall Sessions, with performances on 3/7 and 3/8. We hope you will join us! Location: Elementary Building Pick Up:4:30 Outdoor Games with Alex This Winter we are looking to take our students out and about for weekly adventures in Danehy Park. The Winter offers an array of outdoors activities and athletic possibilities. Every Tuesday we'll eat snack inside, then bundle up and head to the park for shelter building, sledding, snow soccer, and camouflage. Open to students in Lower and Upper Elementary, in Outdoor Games we'll beat the cold by having fun all Winter long. Location: Elementary Building Gym Pick Up: 4:30PM Wednesday Swim Lessons at MIT Ages: Lower EL+ This swimming experience will provide students an opportunity to develop confidence in the skills they have already learned and improve on other aquatic skills through technique and endurance building. Topics covered in this level vary depending on each child s individual skill. Some topics may include: floating without support and recover to a vertical position, gliding, swimming on front and back, treading water, rotary breathing, front and back crawl, butterfly kick, breaststroke, butterfly, elementary backstroke, swimming underwater, and open turns. Passport staff will drive the children to the pool using the Cambridge Montessori bus and will remain with them for the duration of the class. Pick-up will be at the Elementary Building at 5:45PM. 9 Futsal Indoor Soccer Club Ages: UE+MS After an inveragrating Fall, CMS is thrilled to continue Futsal Club. The club is open to students in the Upper Elementary and Middle School. Futsal is a version of soccer played indoors using a smaller ball. This particular form of soccer emphasizes the technical execution of ball control and the importance of fast footwork. Whether your child is new to soccer or experienced this activities is for all levels. Students can sharpen their skills, work on their touch, and mostly have fun playing and competing. We ll meet every Wednesday from 4:30-5:30 so that students can transition from Homework Club directly to the gym. Location: Elementary Gym Pick up: 5:30PM Thursday Wonders of Ancient Art Ages:LE+UE Do you love to draw and be creative? Take a journey back in time to the mysterious world of Egyptian Pyramids, Greek Gods, and the Roman Empire. The wonders of this class will lead you on an exploration of hieroglyphics, ornate masks, and mosaics, all while competing in the ancient Olympics. Location: Middle School Building Pick Up: 4:30PM **Reminder: Basketball with Alex is held on Monday s and Thursday s for students in grades 6-8 from 3:15-4:30 in the gym. Registration information for this session will be available through Alex in the next few weeks. Friday Parkour with Alex and Parkour Generations Ages: Lower EL+ At the beginning of the semester students will be introduced to the basic techniques and movements of parkour used to overcome obstacles. These techniques will be taught within the progression-based training method that is at the heart of the sport and that is essential to the safe long-term practice of parkour. Physical conditioning exercises will also be incorporated into the classes from the beginning to help develop students strength, speed, balance, coordination, and mental toughness. Exercises and activities throughout the classes will focus on safety, functionality, exploration of one s environment and physical capabilities, and the joy of movement. In addition to the physical training, classes will also help students learn how to assess the element of risk and how to manage risk in combination with one s physical capabilities in an environment. Students will also examine parkour and its classification as a discipline, an art form, and a sport, and will be encouraged to explore and develop different styles of movement based on their surroundings.
