Dear Masters, Instructors and Students: The US-ITF, Master Terry Batch, and Master Carol Van Zile, would like to personally invite you to the 2018 National Qualifiers, March 9th-11th, in Sylvania, OH.

Nationals will take place at Northview High School on March 10th and 11th. Itineraries for these days are enclosed.

2 Dear Masters, Instructors and Students: The US-ITF, Master Terry Batch, and Master Carol Van Zile, would like to personally invite you to the 2018 National Qualifiers, March 9th-11th, in Sylvania, OH. On March 9th, Grand Master Robert N. Wheatley will be conducting an ITF Technical Seminar at Olivet Life Center. Weigh-ins will also take place at this location. Nationals will take place at Northview High School on March 10th and 11th. Itineraries for these days are enclosed. Flight options include Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) in Detroit, MI and the Toledo Airport (TOL) in Toledo, OH. The Detroit Airport is the most easily accessible and the bigger of the two airports. Toledo Airport is smaller with fewer flight options. Both of which have easy access to the expressway. Following is all the information pertaining to the on-line event registration and hotel information. 3 HOTEL AND TRAVEL INFORMATION AIRPORTS DETROIT METRO AIRPORT (DTW). This is a major airport and the preferred airport for this event. It is 50 minutes from Sylvania via expressway. Transportation options include renting a car, Uber, Lyft, and Taxi Services. HOTELS WINGATE INN & Suites 5480 S. Main Street, Sylvania, Ohio A block of rooms are only available at this location at $ per night with the code TaeKwon-Do Nationals. This hotel is within walking distance of both the venue and downtown Sylvania s shops and restaurants. Other Hotels available in the local area: 1. Quality Inn Secor Rd. Toledo, Ohio 2. 4 Competitor Registration Fee: $300 Fee includes all individual events as well as event t-shirt. To be considered for the 5-person US team, individuals must compete in all events. Registration deadline: January 28th, 2018 There will be no day-of registration and no refunds will be issued. No intent to compete s will be accepted. Registration website: Go to National Qualifier link NATIONAL COMPETITORS Note the following: Nationals will be held in double elimination style in order to ensure that the best competitor in each division is best suited to compete at the World Championships on behalf of the United States. All competitors must have current ITF status cards and ITF rank certificate. All competitors are responsible for bringing their own gear including a red and a blue headgear, mouth guard, hand and foot gear, athletic cup (if ap plicable) and shin guards (optional). All competitors are expected to help umpire after their competition. Great Lakes Global TaeKwon-Do School will be open Thursday from 5:00pm 9:00pm for open gym. The tournament registration fee replaces all multiple checks submitted in prior National Qualifiers. 4

5 Coaches fee: $ NATIONAL COACHES Only coaches will be allowed access to the competition floor. All coaches must be either an ITF instructor or a black belt from the competitors school. They will be provided with a boxed lunch and beverage as well as an event t-shirt. Coaches will receive a coaches badge and are expected to wear it on the event floor. Dress code: All coaches are expected to wear a white polo shirt and warm up pants of their choosing. Event t-shirt can be worn in place of a white polo. UMPIRES Umpires: No fee All competitors are expected to help umpire/judge after their division is finished. Umpires are required to register online through the National Qualifier link at All umpires will be assigned and notified of their assignments the day of competition. Dress code: Standard ITF navy blue suit, white shirt, and tie. 5

6 ITF Technical Seminar Grand Master Robert N. Wheatley, IX Grand Master Robert N. Wheatley is the President of the United States TaeKwon-Do Federation (US-ITF), Eireann ITF in Ireland, France s TaeKwon-Do Organization. Grand Master Wheatley is also Chairman of Research for the International TaeKwon-Do Federation. States since Grand Master Wheatley is a native of Ireland and has been studying TaeKwon-Do for over 40 years. He is an All Ireland National and All European Champion, Hall of Fame Inductee, International Umpire/Referee, International Examiner ITF, and a listed member of Who s Who in Martial Arts. He has been teaching in the United Grand Master Wheatley began studying General Choi Hong Hi s TaeKwon-Do in His instructor at that time was Master Rhee Ki Ha, one of General Choi s top instructors. In 1973, Master Wheatley became an instructor for the Republic of Ireland s TaeKwon-Do Association (RITA). IN 1979, he founded the renown Greystones School of TaeKwon-Do in County Wicklow, Ireland. Greystones became known throughout Europe for it s high standard of technique, it s super fighters, National Champions, and huge membership. An Irish newspaper praised him as one of Irelands most physically active and respected martial artists. Grand Master Wheatley is highly respected around the world for his professionalism and high standards. His seminars are requested around the world. A few of the countries he has conducted seminars in include France, Germany, Ireland, Australia, Hungary, Austria, Canada, New Zealand and many different locations within the United States. The ITF Technical Seminar will take place at Olivet Life Center from 6:00pm-9:00pm on Friday, March 9th. Only competitors and coaches will be permitted on the floor. Event staff will be available to answer questions and direct flow of traffic. Concessions will be made available for all competitors, coaches and spectators through the Northview High School Concession stand. Food available will include boxed lunches from Jimmy Johns, pizza from Marco s Pizza, Gatorade, bottled water and other assorted snacks. 7

8 ITINERARY: SATURDAY, MARCH 10TH Time 8:00am 8:30am Northview High School Gymnasium 5403 Silica Drive Sylvania, OH Warm Up Event 8:30am 9:00am Umpire Meeting 9:00am 6:00pm Tournament Begins Morning patterns Afternoon sparring Competition will start with all Senior Adults in the morning. As entire divisions finish, those competing in breaking will report first to Power Breaking and then Specialty Breaking. ITINERARY: SUNDAY, MARCH 11TH Sunday events and location are to be determined. All competitors, coaches and spectators will be informed of Sundays schedule and location the day before. The Team USA Tournament Committee will hand select the candidates of the 5 person US Team. Their decision will be announced after the Team Meeting on Sunday, March 11th. Thank you for your cooperation. 8

9 TOURNAMENT RULES AND ETIQUETTE Rules: The competition will be conducted in accordance to the rules and regulations of the International TaeKwon-Do Federation. The Team USA Tournament Committee reserves the right to make the final judgment. Tournament Director reserves the right to make any final day of decisions regarding the tournament itself. In accordance with the rules and regulations of the ITF, the center referee is to ensure the safety of all competitors. Abusive coaches, competitors or spectators will not be tolerated and are grounds for disqualification and removal from the tournament immediately. 9
