2 Welcome! Your team has been accepted into one of Canada s largest school volleyball tournaments. We encourage you to read and re-read the information that follows so that all players and coaches have a sound understanding of tournament details and expectations. TOURNAMENT INFORMATION Scotiabank Dalhousie High School Volleyball Invitational COMPETITION VENUE: eight courts on the Dalhousie campus will be used in the tournament, six in Dalplex, one in Dalhousie's Studley gym (5 minute walk from Dalplex), one in King's College gym (5 minute walk from Dalplex). TOURNAMENT FORMATS: Formats will depend on the number of teams in each division and will see all teams playing a minimum of 5 matches. 12 Team Format (Sr. Girls, Jr. Boys): Four pools of three teams for preliminary round robin play. The top two teams advance to the championship quarter finals. The four third place teams play a round robin to determine 9th-12th place. 16 Team Format (Sr. Boys, Jr. Girls): Four pools of four teams for preliminary round robin play. The top two teams in each pool advance to the Gold Division playoff format. The bottom two teams in each pool advance to the Black Division playoff. MATCH FORMAT: All matches, including the semi-finals and finals, are best 2/3 sets. The Volleyball Canada scoring system will be used. Sets #1 and #2 are to 25 points and set #3 is to 15 points. No point cap on any of the 3 sets. For ALL DIVISIONS the 12 substitution rule used by schools in Nova Scotia will apply. For SENIOR HIGH DIVISIONS the Libero WILL ALSO BE USED. For the JUNIOR HIGH DIVISION the LIBERO RULE WILL NOT BE USED. For the Junior High Division no hand passing is permitted on serve receive. TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE: Will be posted on the website at by Wednesday, October 9. Go to click on Special Events (navigation on page below Tiger logo) and scroll down to The Scotiabank High School Invitational information. TOURNAMENT CONTROL CENTRE: For information on scores and play-off schedules please contact the control centre. TIE BREAKING SYSTEM: Volleyball Canada tie breaking format will be used. UNIFORMS: As per Volleyball Canada rules (proper matching shorts and tops) FOOTWEAR: Players and coaches must wear clean, light soled gym shoes in all playing venues at all times. WARM-UP: In the event that a previous match extends into the next scheduled time period, a 10 minute maximum warm-up time, including hitting and serving, will be allowed. We will give proper warm-up time for all semi-final and medal matches. MAJOR OFFICIALS: All tournament officials have been certified by Volleyball Nova Scotia's Officials Association. We try as much as possible to have two officials assigned to each match. However, some matches on Friday may only have one official. MINOR OFFICIATING: Coaches are expected to pre-train designated players from their team in scorekeeping. A copy of the scoresheet that will be used in the tournament is on the website. Please train 2 scorekeepers and have them complete the Pre-Tournament Scorekeeping Self-Check Quiz. Correct answers are provided on the website. Linespeople will not be used in this year's tournament. Minor officiating format will be as follows: Each team will provide 1 scorer for each of THEIR OWN MATCHES. The scorer can be a manager providing they have completed the Pre-Tournament Scorekeeping Self-Check Quiz. LOCKERS: Space is limited. Bring your own locks. TOURNAMENT BOUTIQUE: Tournament t-shirts will be available at Dalplex (Tournament Control Centre) on Friday from 1-7pm and Saturday, from 9am-5pm for $20. COACHES LOUNGE: Complimentary beverages and snacks will be available. Ask the Tournament Chair for details.

3 TOURNAMENT INFORMATION Scotiabank Dalhousie High School Volleyball continued... AWARDS: Champion and finalist t-shirts will be presented in all categories. AWARD PRESENTATIONS: Champion and finalist t-shirts will be presented courtside immediately following the finals in each division. FIRST AID STATION: Staffed in the Dalplex Fieldhouse throughout the tournament. Please supply your own tape for preventative taping adjacent to the Control Center. PARKING: Parking on the Dalhousie campus will be difficult on Friday and visiting teams should make every attempt to arrange for alternate transportation throughout the day. Meter parking is available at Dalplex and at various locations on campus. Most meters have a 4hr limit. Day permits can be purchased from Security Services, which is located on the Parkade Level of the Marion McCain Arts & Social Sciences Building (located on north side of University Avenue between Lemarchant St and Seymour St). Permits are sold for $14.10 per day and vehicles must be parked in designated zones on campus. Permits do not guarantee a spot however, and visitors must expect few, if any, spots to be available during peak hours (8:30am-5pm). Violators will be ticketed and/or towed. On Saturday, parking is free at Dalplex and at designated zones on campus. You can view the parking zones on campus (campusmaps.dal.ca). PROSPECTIVE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS: Should any players on your team wish to obtain information regarding academic programs and entrance requirements at Dalhousie, a representative from the Registrar s Office will be available at Dalplex on Friday afternoon (1:00pm-4:30pm). A booth will be set up near the Control Centre. SANCTIONING: This event is sanctioned by the Nova Scotia School s Athletic Federation. Participating schools from outside of Nova Scotia must obtain sanctioning from their respective provincial federations. ALL-STAR BALLOTS: Please submit your all-star ballot to Control Centre immediately following the semi finals. This will assist our All-Star Committee in finalizing the selections. Ballots are available at the Control Center. Please note that this Information Bulletin is the only copy that your team will receive. We hope that you have an enjoyable and successful tournament. Be considerate when walking by courts with matches in progress. Wait for a stoppage in play. 4. Use the garbage cans provided to ensure that your bench area is left clean. 5.
