Check-in will be 4 to 8:30 p.m. each Friday night, 6:30 to 8 a.m. each Saturday morning and noon until 1:30 p.m. each Saturday afternoon for PM waves. Check in on Friday nights are at the Championship Desk. Saturday check-in is on the third level of the convention center next to the player/coach entrance. Please be mindful that there are over 200 teams checking in. Checking in this many teams and getting wristbands and coaches gifts to this many teams requires a lot of time and staffing. We appreciate your cooperation. Have coaches meet their teams on the first or second floors of the convention center to distribute wristbands, not on the third floor where it gets very crowded. The Team Rep or a coach must check-in his or her team. Badger Region staff will ask for an emergency contact phone number be on all rosters. The individual checking in must have a Medical Release Form for each player on the roster though they will not be verified at check in. This person will need to verify the roster including uniform numbers. Each player is required to wear the same jersey number throughout the entire event. This applies to all players, including the ibero position. Players are allowed to compete in only ONE weekend of the Badger Region Championships. Once play begins, no roster additions will be allowed. Only individuals on the roster are permitted to sit on the team bench. COACHES/TEAM REPS MUST BRING A COPY OF YOUR WEBPOINT ROSTER.

2 WELCOME TO THE 16TH ANNUAL FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE BADGER REGION Greetings everyone! The Badger Region Championships is now in its 16th year and has become the marquee event in the Badger Region. The event continues to grow each year with 546 junior teams competing this year over three weekends. We are excited to offer Badger Region members this spectacular volleyball event along with many fun-filled family activities, including: A design-a-sign station for you to create a sign for a player, coach, or team A coloring station for kids to color Badger Region-themed designs All proceeds from the above stations will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation The championships will also feature a free photo station where you can take a fun photo with your team. There will also be a Badger Region Championships Photo Frame for photos. Also, I m excited that the Dale Rohde Memorial Boys Tournament will be again be joining the Badger Region Championships at the Wisconsin Center during the third weekend of the championships. The event has grown to 72 teams over the past six years. This event is a tribute to longtime Badger Region member Dale Rohde who was a huge supporter of boys volleyball in the Badger Region. Dale was an active member of the volleyball community as a player, coach, parent, and official. A silent auction will also be held during this tournament. The Badger Region would like to thank everyone who is involved in setting up and conducting the tournament. Thank you to Kelly Lehman, Region Tournament Director; the heavy equipment crew, the teams that put down and take up the Sport Court, individuals who hang nets, put down court lines, etc.; our Badger Region staff of Jen Armson-Dyer, Brian Sharkey, Scott Spiess, and Sara Voigt, along with the volunteers who will assist them at Championship Desk. In addition, we thank Larry Schoenick and Nancy Paulson for coordinating our officials and scorer monitors and to our cadre of officials and scorer monitors for their dedication and excellent work. Thank you to the Wisconsin Center District, VISIT Milwaukee, and hotel staff for coordinating the arrangements in the Convention Center and hotels, respectively. I d also like to thank our sponsors and vendors for the event: All Star Sportswear, Fine Designs, Frisco MO, Burghardts, Violet Victoria, QRG, and the concession vendors at the Wisconsin Center District. The biggest thank you goes to the parents, players and coaches without whom we would not have such a fun and successful event in the Badger Region year in and year out. It is their dedication and hard work that enable us to run events like this! Best of luck to all the teams competing in the tournament and enjoy your stay in the Milwaukee area! Jim Momsen Badger Region President IMPORTANT CONTACT INFORMATION (FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY) The people working at Championship Desk will be able to help you out if you have any questions about the tournament. Please don t hesitate to ask, we are here to make sure your team has a great tournament. Kelly Lehman, Tournament Directors: kelly@badgervolleyball.org Jen Armson-Dyer, Executive Director jarmsondyer@badgervolleyball.org Jim Momsen, Lead Official badgerrefchair@yahoo.com Scott Spiess, Operations Manager: scott@badgervolleyball.org Brian Sharkey, Program Director: brian@badgervolleyball.org

3 WELCOME TO THE 16TH ANNUAL RULES OF PLAY The USA Volleyball Regulations for Domestic Competition will be in effect. A step-in line WILL be used for 12-and-under divisions. (For the complete rules, see our region website, under officials. ) TEAM WORK CREW RESPONSIBILITIES The Badger Region will schedule a first referee for each match. Work teams will need to provide a second referee, official scorer, visual scorer, libero tracker and two line judges. An adult on the official roster needs to be courtside at all times. The work team needs to report to the first referee no later than the beginning of the serving team s warm-up. For each minute the work team is late or incomplete, one point will be given to their next opponent (up to 25-0 forfeit). A second offense will result in the loss of your next match. For the safety of all participants and spectators during junior competition, when one team has the exclusive use of the court, the other team should assist with shagging balls. Please note: If you lose your last match of the day, odds are very likely you ref the following match (despite the fact that the next match may be part of the afternoon wave). PROTESTS If a protest needs to be filed, it is to be done at the time of the incident, not later. The protest must be written on the score sheet by the official scorer or the R1, and must be signed by the person presenting the protest, the captains, as well as the R1. A protest committee formed by our Head Official will handle any protests prior to the next service. The committee will be formed from officials who are not working, available board members, staff and/or site directors. All decisions by the Protest Committee will be final. Judgment calls may not be protested. Protests will only be MATCH FORMAT, WARM-UPS, PLAYING SCHEDULE, TIEBREAKERS The first two rounds of play, warm-ups will be (2 minutes of shared ball handling followed by 4 minutes for each team beginning with the serving team). After that, warm-up will be 4-4 (four minutes for each team beginning with the serving team). Teams must serve within their court time. All attacking will be toward the Convention Center walls if possible. This year there are zero divider nets, so teams will have to help each other with ball shagging Matches are scheduled one hour apart. However, except for the first match of the day, the warm-up time for each match will begin immediately upon the completion of the previous match (that includes tie-breaker sets). The match will begin at the end of the official warm-up time. We ask coaches and their teams to monitor the progress on their court as matches will begin early if a match does not use up their allotted time period. All pools with four teams will play matches, 2 out of 3 sets. The first 2 sets are to 25 rally score points. All tie-breaking sets will be one set to 15 with rally scoring points (change sides at 8 points). Pools of five will play best two-out-of-three. If there is a three-way tie in a pool, a playoff to determine which team(s) go to gold will take place. Teams involved in the tie will be seeded based on set percentage then point differential if needed. The No. 2 seed will play the No. 3 seed while the No. 1 refs. If needed, the No. 1 seed will play the winner of that match to determine who goes to the gold bracket. If AES says No Future Matches Scheduled for playing or working purposes, that means that something is not finalized yet from your Day 1 pool. Be patient and make sure you know exactly when your next match (work or play) is set to take place. It might be later on Day 1. DO you find yourself yelling SCORE! from all the way across the court? Or how about those little line judges that like to play with the flag like it s a baton instead Of watching for touches Off the block? have you ever yelled at a line judge for not paying attention? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you need to be a member of: yes, you too can become a member of usa Volleyball and the badger region by completing a background screening, safesport certification and some basic ref training. and, It s all FREE to you. Once you are added to your team s roster, you can sit at the scorer s table during your team s scheduled work assignment. you ll be able to make sure no players are using electronic devices while at the table.
