8 12/2/2018 Practices Team Practices are 2-4 times per week depending on the age and level. Practices will be 2 hours. Speed/Strength training is an additional 1 hour for participating players. Practices will be held at the AVC Center in Valley View Players are required to wear their practice shirts Teams may not practice on the weekend if they have a tournament but often do. (Up to the coach) Check the web-site for the latest practice schedules on Team Pages. Tournaments Teams will play in at least 6-10 tournaments depending on their age and level. American/Regional teams (ages 12 and up) will generally play on at least 8 play dates during the season including the regional championship. (10s and 11s will be at least 6 dates) The tournament schedule is on the web-site. For American and Regional teams, we selected tournaments that are about 2 hours or less driving distance. 9 12/2/2018 HOTELS: Tournaments For tournaments outside northeast Ohio, we have reserved blocks of rooms at a designated hotel. We require the players to stay in the designated hotel so they can have team building activity time. (Stay to Play) Check your packet or the website on the hotel reservation information and prices. Go home and make reservations TONIGHT! National Reservations: Paul Schiffer Columbus: Brian Highfield or Brian Scipione Playing Time Playing time is the #1 parent question for coaches At the American and Regional levels, we intend to get everyone playing time at each tournament, especially during pool play. For National and Elite teams, the goals are different and there could be times when certain players see little or no playing time depending on the situation. Coaches are the decision makers on what players to play and when. Coaches will not measure playing time at a detailed level. Some players may get more playing time based on position needs, attitude, commitment, skill level, etc. During tournament playoffs, coaches will elect to play certain players more in order to advance the team in the tournament. 8
10 12/2/2018 Common Parent Myths 1. My child is the best player on his/her high school team, therefore she deserves more playing time on her club team. Reality: Its not uncommon for a club team to consist of players who were the best at there position on their respective HS teams. 2. If my child is not playing in the game, she will not get noticed by college recruiters. Reality: Most college coaches watch warm-ups and non-game interactions to make quick player recruiting decisions and don t take the time to watch an entire game. 3. The coach doesn t know what he or she is doing. Reality: Coaches vary somewhat in philosophy and strategy. Parent s should learn what that philosophy is and ask questions to gain more understanding. Its good to know different techniques. Grievance Process 24 Hour Rule Wait 24 hours and encourage your player to address the issue with the coach. If issue is left unresolved A meeting will be set up attended by the head coach, parent and athlete to discuss and resolve the issue. If issue is still left unresolved Submit the grievance in writing (letter or ), addressed to the Club Director in-charge of the designated age group, including: Submitter s name, address and telephone number Junior athlete s name (if submitted by a parent) Reason for complaint Desired course of action to resolve issue 9
11 12/2/2018 Player Rules Absences Notify the coach of when you will not be at practice or a tournament Multiple absences may impact playing time Uniforms and Equipment Wear practice shirts to every practice. Respect the equipment. Its expensive and cannot always be replaced. Nets up by practice start time. EVERYONE helps with the equipment. Wash uniforms after every tournament. Jewelry & Cell Phones No jewelry at practice or tournaments. Wristbands are considered jewelry. No cell phone usage or ringing during practice. Turn them off! No long fingernails. They inhibit proper volleyball handling. Player Respect Coaches will not tolerate any disrespectful behavior You will be best friends with your teammates! If you cannot resolve differences on your own, contact the coach. Don t let problems stir. Player Rules Playing Time The coach determines playing time based on many factors including but not limited to skill level, position needs, attitude, commitment, etc. If you feel you deserve more playing time or want to know what you need to do to earn more playing time, It is your obligation to talk to your coach Game Day Be sure to bring your uniform, shoes, water, volleyball, and any other equipment. Parents are responsible for transportation to and from tournament locations Be sure to arrive at the tournament site at the time designated by your coach All players will learn to keep score, line judge, and referee and perform theses duties at tournaments as designated by your coach Behavior and Sportsmanship All players and parents are expected to represent the club in a professional manner with the highest of standards and exhibit sportsmanship at all practices and tournaments. 10
12 12/2/2018 AVC Player Honor Code 1. I understand that the needs of the team are bigger than the needs of me and that success of the team is bigger than the success of any individual. 2. I will respect my coach and the club staff as they have more knowledge and expertise than me. 3. I will respect my teammates and support them as we are a team. 4. I will follow all club rules, be responsible for my actions, and respect the property of the club and its members. 5. I will represent AVC with pride in fierce competition while demonstrating sportsmanship and honor for the sport and my club. AVC Parent Code of Conduct 1. I will be responsible for my financial obligations to the club and make arrangements for alternative payment plans in a timely manner if needed. 3.
