As our members head back to the indoor courts for high school and mini-club season, I hope that you will keep an eye on the two remaining international beach volleyball events that will take place in Florida this year: Sep 11-13: NORCECA Continental Tour Stop, Hickory Point Beach, Tavares, FL Sep 29-Oct 4: FIVB World Tour Finals, Ft. IN THIS ISSUE Team Florida HP All-Stars Bring Home Multiple Medals Team Florida athletes brought home some hardware from the HP Championships in Des Moines, IA Page 2 JBT National Championship Results Congratulations to the Florida athletes who placed at Virginia Beach!...Page 3 In closing, I would like to take a moment and commend my staff for their commitment and dedication to the mission of the Florida Region. While they obviously get paid for their work, they are regularly called upon to work long days while giving up evenings, weekends, and holidays and they do so without hesitation. It takes a special kind of person to consistently produce high quality results in such a fast paced environment, not to mention the relentless scrutiny of our 13,500 members. I consider it an honor to lead this team and I hope that you will give them a sincere Thank You the next time you see them in action. They are a special group of people! We look forward to seeing you on the court very soon and Much More! Steve Bishop Executive Director/President (Proudly serving our members since 2005!) MEMBERS Membership renewal starts on September 1 st, All athletes renewing their USAV membership between September 1 st and October 31 st will only be able to select UNDECIDED in WebPoint as their club of choice. After November 1 st, members will be able to select their club. Click video above to watch this month s CORA Sports Medicine Tip on agility & explosiveness! Agility, speed & vertical jump training in the sand will help prevent injuries and improve your indoor game. Sand training is very forgiving on your joints, in general. A steady giveaway on impact limits compressive forces on your ankles, knees and hips. In addition, an exaggerated foot drive in the sand results in an increased hamstring activation. This, in particular, can help the quad dominant players to improve their structural balance. Working on agility and speed in the sand is an excellent way to strengthen the muscles around your ankle joint. The instability of the sand allows greater range of motion in all directions and it will engage your core and the stabilizers of your lower kinetic chain. Although the sand removes any plyometric advantages; jumping in the sand makes your muscles work so much harder to get any height. A vertical jump in the sand recruits so many more muscle fibers than on a hard indoor surface. So when you return back to playing indoor volleyball you regain the plyometric response and you are able to recruit more muscle fibers. Good luck to all players trying out for their High School teams. Beach is serious!!!! As always, feel free to contact us with any questions and schedule your free shoulder evaluation at any CORA clinic by ing us at digcora@corehealth.com.

7 AUGUST 2015 Issue 71 7 QUICK TIP FOR PARENTS Signs & symptoms of child sexual abuse Athletes rarely speak up about child sexual abuse. Instead, we often need to rely on other indicators that something might be going on in sport. One indicator of child sexual abuse includes sudden behavioral changes related to the training & competition. A few possible behavioral changes you might see in your athlete include: Losing enthusiasm for sport, even for competition Not wanting to practice Wanting to avoid contact with a particular individual such as a coach, assistant coach, or athletic trainer Having a sudden mood change, such as a violent emotional outburst Wanting to change teams, even though his or her friends are on their current team Visit the SafeSport website for more tips!
