The Fitwalker doing the most Club YREs in 2014 shall be named Walker of the Year. Those waking 10 or more of our YRE receive attractive certificates. There s still time to meet the challenge. LOLLY S A-Z MEMORIAL WALK, APRIL 11, 2015 The walk is now sanctioned by AVA. Bev arranged with Ron at the Eagles to have our start and finish tables there. Peggy at the Albany Regional Museum has agreed to have the Checkpoint located there and opening at 9:30. The start time for the 5Km is 9 to 1:00. The 10Km is 9 to noon. There are many challenges available on this walk. Greetings from Texas! We had a great trip here, mostly dry and sunny, and a great Thanksgiving filled with family. Hope your y Thanksgiving went well. It is nice to get away and look at things from a different angle. I enjoy doing walks in other parts of the country as you learn so much about those areas, historically and culturally. Yesterday Jim and I did the Austin Lady Bird Lake walk. We joined with 8 local walkers to explore the riverbanks of "Town Lake". (Lady Bird Johnson never wanted the area named after her.) It made me yearn to return in Spring when the wildflowers are blooming. Leading the walk was Carol Obianwu,, president of the local club. She was testing the walk for changes that would improve it. I met Carol for the first time in Oregon, at the Rogue River Riches walks nearly 6 years ago. Since then we have met in Washington at their Regional Conference in and many times when we have visited Texas. This is one way to make the friends in "Fun, Fitness and Friendship", which is the motto for volkssporting. On my bucket list are walks in other countries, especially Germany where the sport originated. May your Christmas holidays be joyful! Guess what? Jim and I are invited to the local club's Christmas party which also has a gift exchange! I hope you will attend the Fitwalkers' Christmas Party. One idea they gave was for homemade goodies as a gift. They also allow 2 steals..which makes it even more fun if you can bring your spouse or friend to intercede for you! I wonder who will be opening the most gifts? One year it was my husband, Jim, who had lots of items stolen from him. Have fun on December 10th and on every day throughout the new year. That will boost walkers representation. <<<>>> In Corvallis people are working to put through a proposal in Benton Country to pave a path feet wide within a 20- foot-wide right of way as an alternative to walking or bikeing along the shoulder of nearby Highway 20. The path would go through some designated farm land. BTA and Safe Routes Sign the petition! 4 Oregon Trails State Volkssporting Association OTSVA OTSVA issued a 2015 Challenge to stroll into the New Year on the right path. The top three walkers completing the most walks in our NW region (AK, ID, WA, OR) during January and February, win. Each receive a gift certificate from REI. Walks may be 5km or 10km. Get out and Walk Oregon 2015 Walk Oregon Challenges 4 Es Emergency Eyes Entertainment Sunday Stroll Dec. 7 in Corvallis Keep in shape during the holidays by enjoying a Sunday Stroll with the Corvallis Cruisers walking club. Meet at the Lions' Shelter in Avery Park at 1:50 pm on December 7 to register and be ready to walk at 2PM. The 5Km and 10Km walks view the park and the OSU campus. The 10Km goes to an additional park. This is our last group walk on this route that is being revised for Wear comfortable footwear. Pets and children are welcomed. At 10:11 on 12/13/14 dozens of walking clubs across the USA will be hosting walks. What a better excuse to get out and log some steps and enjoy the season. Time to Walk: walks are scheduled in Eugene (the Delta Ponds Walk) and Vancouver, WA, (Christmas at Ft. Vancouver). There are special award for these walks. 6 AVA Future Special Programs Starting January 1, 2015 Completed books are to be returned to the point of contact or club hosting the program to receive recognition and award. Amphitheatres Jan. 1, 2015 Dec. 31, Any sanctioned AVA event in the USA where the participant walks in or by an amphitheatre qualifies for this special program. Commercial amphitheatres for entertainment, performances or sports do not qualify, nor do indoor amphitheatres. Examples of amphitheatres which qualify for this special program may be located in national/state parks, Boy Scout camps, city parks, and at museums. Only one Amphitheatre qualifier may be listed per event. One entry, per calendar year, is permitted for Year Round and Seasonal events. Duplicate event numbers for multiple day traditional events, is not allowed. Insert cards may be used and attached to this booklet, but no write-in entries will be accepted. Qualifier for 15 different sanctioned events. Must be outdoors and must have a seating arrangement for the audience. Boardwalks may be along or overlooking beaches. The boardwalk must be at least 25 feet in length, usually built of wood but those constructed with a type of composite lumber are acceptable for use in the special program. Qualifier for 15 different sanctioned events. One entry, per calendar year, is permitted for Year Round and Seasonal events. Regions include the North Central, South Central, Rocky Mountain and Southwest. The patch will be of the USA, colored yellow, with the Louisiana Purchase highlighted in green with the 15 states borders highlighted. Volcanoes Jan. 1, 2015 Dec. 31, Walk and explore new realms with the grandeur and mystery of volcanoes. Volcanoes are listed in 18 states within the United States including Alaska and Hawaii and to the east as far as the States of Virginia, Mississippi, Missouri and South Dakota. Walks qualify if there is a volcanic cone, crater or caldera seen on the walk route. Any sanctioned AVA event including Year Round, Seasonal or Traditional event that meets the criteria can be used. This Special Program would tie in with the AVA Convention in Salem, OR in 2015 with the walk scheduled at Mount St Helens.
